The acting in this is phenomenal. They portray eating disorders very accurately especially the emotional toll it takes on a person. The high you feel after starving out or purging. It’s real. Very well done. Not over the top.

I have a suggestion... Before reading the next paragraph, sit for a moment with closed eyes, asking if what you about to read below is worth trying. Get the book I. AM THE WORD by Paul Selig. Read just one chapter a day; no more, no less. (Preferably out loud.) A lifelong OCD ended when I did that. I didn't realize it until I finished the book. I was not reading it for that purpose. One day I realized I had not fed that OC for a while. I traced it back in my memory and realized it hadn't been in my life since the day I had started reading it. While the book isn't about OC behavior per se, it did mention that OCDs happen when there are blocks in our energy field, also called our aura... And that saying the affirmations in the book will remove those blocks.

She became a skeleton but she'd say she had put on so much weight. She lost a lot of hair too. Nothing worked except prayer. Only prayer helped her come out of it. I fought with anorexia and bulimia for many years in my youth and young adulthood. Now, I'm once again fighting with them again. Everyone around me has basically done an intervention, so I will be seeing a therapist for the first time. It's scary, but I need to know what makes me fear food and gaining weight. Truthfully, this is always a part of you, even if you do recover from it.
@MegaTrivial
@MegaTrivial Год назад
Probably it´s fear of not being loved by anyone, especially of not being loved by any guy, any man if you gain weight, and maybe be alone. That´s making you fear food. You realise this, then there are ways to solve it. 1. there are a lot of middle-weight and over weight people who do fine, have lots of friends and are loved. 2. it´s not food that makes one gain weight, it´s rather other things like: stress, toxins, a disease. Excercise, take a bike, or work physical jobs like cleanig, washing dishes or whatever, detoxify or eat fresh food, get fresh air, live in clean environment, avoid toxins like medications, drugs, alchohol, etc.; you´ll not be overweight. It´s moustly the toxins we get in our body from environment which make us built fet, especially toxins form the food. 3. And think, muscles are not overweight they only make one look more attractive and healthy, but muscles also make one healthy, beautiful and strong. 4. confront the fear, experiment to gain weight just for a while until you find one guy/man that likes you anyway, and you don´t even have to be together; would be enough just to break and defeat the wrong thoughts. Hope this helped something

When you hear about stories of the ones that didn't make it through the pain, it's gut wrenching. Karen Carpenter comes to mind. She had actually started to recover when her heart just gave out from all the years of punishing her body. I enjoyed this movie and I absolutely love Alison as an actress but the ending seemed too abrupt to me. I think they should have shown the group meeting and heard what these girls are going through every day. It was a realistic portrayal but just a bit short in my opinion. I wish it would have been a full length, 2 hour movie.
@MissouriCrookedBarnHomestead
I caught my younger daughter at 8 years old going into a Golden Corral bathroom after having a meal and throwing up. I knew something was going on when she tried to pretend that she wasn't, then said she wasn't sick, and playing it off like nothing happened. She was a gymnast. At 3 years old she started going to regular gymnastics classes. I immediately told her that she would never go to the bathroom alone again until it stopped. She was put into therapy where I found out that she had learned to eat as much as she wanted and purge when she was 5 years old by a gymnastics coach. I suspect it could have been even longer than that. The constant monitoring by never letting her go unaided to a bathroom and the therapy got through to her. From the age of 4 until she was 9 years old, she never gained above 45 pounds. That is what tells me how long it was going on. She is now 26 and is healthy. But, when we talk about what went on, she says that thinking about it never really stops.

So I started drinking carnation instant breakfast with whole milk. That's what I had for breakfast for a few years. Getting ready at 14 to go to high school I was 5'6" I weighed 85 pounds. I got better at eating that year by the end I had gained 20 pounds. My grades got better i even made it to the honor roll and I got into being more active. My parents never saw anything wrong. I went through being Anorexic, and it came from having a chronically ill mother, no Dad, and after high school being faced with being afraid to leave my Mom, who I felt needed me to survive, and being afraid to go on to college, so my weight became my source of control. This was the mid 70's, before Karen Carpenter made the world aware of what it was. I lost my periods, and looking back now, at pictures, I see how awful I looked. It took fear of dying for me to stop. I never saw a therapist, I guess I just slowly brought myself back. It wasn't overnight, and it wasn't easy, but I did it. Ultimately, no matter how much therapy these girls get, or how long they are kept in the hospital, it comes down to themselves to decide to stop.

We both worked and did our best to keep our daughter uninvolved as we could. When she got into jr high my husband had to stop working and I was pht on chemotherapy. Two of us declined fast really impacted our daughter. She gained weight. She is 33yrs old now. Has 3 kids. She is over 300 pounds. My husband died before covid, my daughter gained 100 pounds during covid. I live alone and try very hard to not add to her stress. It is horrible at any age or position in the family, knowing your loved one is dying. Seeing the suffering, decline, the depression and there's nothing you can do to stop it. Nothing. Its a rattle snake in your path. I felt it too. So I do my best to counsel my daughter. It's great you understand where your issue stems from. Don't give up.❤

Great movie. A friend of my cousin was a twin, 2 sisters and they were both anorexic and they were the sweetest girls and no one would have ever known. Well, they were both in treatment constantly and they would always relapse. They have both died, not at the same time but maybe approximately 2 years after the one sister died the other sister died like 2 years later. One of the twins was my cousins best friend and was the maid of honor in her wedding and my cousin warned her not to pull that purging and then vomiting in the bathroom. Well, she didn't listen to my cousin and she came and drank non stop and was in and out of the bathroom all night during the wedding as happy as can be and unfortunately lots of family and friends saw this going on. My cousin tried so hard to help her but then she stopped talking to my cousin. Now she's gone like her sister and I hope they are in a better place now. Very very sad. RIP to them both.

It's her daughter she's a mother first it's not a client it's her own daughter I would react thr same way probably specially knowing how myself went through it and it's upsetting not knowing and other people finding out before myself feeling as if she failed as a mother she wasn't really upset at her daughter she was upset that she felt should hadn't protected her and noticed her daughter was hurting.

It's hard to believe this movie was 23 years ago!! Wt???? That's crazy!! I'm glad I know a little more about this disease than I did before. I had a friend in high school with this. She was a foster child that went through a lot of abuse in homes she had to live in. The kids made fun of her weight in school. More so because she would say outlandish things to try & gain their friendship. It didn't work. I really thought it was all about body dismorphia but this movie says its about control. I thought she was doing it to be a professional ballerina & that comes with a lot of pressure, sadly most of it comes from people that are broken themselves like their teachers or parents that remind kids not to eat the occasional treat or they will get fat. A lot if it starts from how the parents speak about themselves. Really good movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is not like many family drama movies that handles divorce, usually in the beginning we are shown the problem, then the problem progresses with the narrative as we are shown the main character emotional turmoil with the problem then the other characters get involved with the revelation part, while everything building up the climax where there's clash between the characters and the end is usually "they lived happily ever after". But here there's no explicit revelation of the problem, no clash, no trying to fix it, no happy or conclusive end. It's beautiful in It's own way

I couldn't stop, even when I really wanted to. I almost died. If I touched anything I would bruise, and my hair fell out. I don't know how I stopped, I didn't have anyone to help. No support. I've battled, and continue to battle, a lot of things in my life. I've always done it alone. Sometimes it makes me sad, yes, I do get lonely. I remember on my 22nd birthday I was shocked that I was still alive. It's taken 23 more years to get to a point where I'm okay. I'm living alone finally, for the first time. I'm on meds that help.

I have struggled with eating disorders for 30 of my 37 years of life. This movie hits hard. Always having to be this perfect kid, nothing ever being good enough for anyone. Been to treatment 5x and right now is the best I’ve ever done in recovery. I’m living in nostalgia and come back to movies like this to try and remember how bad it was/is and that it isn’t worth it. I still believe my body is the problem and if I didn’t have to gain everything back things would be better. Still scared to be a healthy weight because I swore I never would be again … be the person who was made fun of and ridiculed. I want to be as far away from her as I can and losing weight was the only way to do that. But it would ruin everything I have right now. Still miss every part of my Ed because I’m still learning what it means to not have it and I hate it.

I'm trying to get over them, but seeing really thin girls makes me fixate on my own body weight. This movie actually makes me cry. One of my friends who I was close with was anorexic about a year ago, & she was going through so much emotional stress & physical strain on herself. When she told her mother, her mother felt like she let her daughter down by not taking good care of her(which I understand). Worst thing is, she told her bf about this, and he proceeded to breakup with her 5 days later. Her Story sounds very similar to this movie & being anorexic is not a good thing (I am very lucky I keep track of my nutrition, but Ik how terrible it can be, seeing how one of my friends was nearly taken away from it). I only learned all of this recently through her senior oratorical contest speech (which was 8 minutes long,3 minutes longer than the maximum allowed). I'll never forget how all her friends in the audience burst into tears in the middle of her speech (I'm pretty sure there's a recording of the oratorical out there somewhere).I'm glad she's okay now, because she has told everyone "you can't live life on an empty stomach."

Excellent movie that demonstrates the constant bombardment and messages sent via media that causes enormous pressure on women to be perfect. Now two decades later and it has gotten so much worse...now women get plastic surgery before they are adults to try and reach this pseudo-perfection. I know when I was younger I strived for perfection and was never happy... I am five foot ten and small boned and I used to go to the gym and work out like a maniac and barely eat. I was 120 pounds which was really thin and I used to think my bum was too fat. Crazy!!! Nowadays girls are having butt implants and mine is probably considered too small. What a sad society we live in where the exterior is valued while our inner qualities not. It cannot possibly get any worse... or can it???? Thanks for this upload... there should be so much discussion around this topic with young people in order to clarify and help them see that media is nuts!
