While diving with Port Jackson sharks in Sydney's Botany Bay we noticed one with a large lure attached to its mouth. After 2 attempts and a bit of shark wrestling, my dive buddies were able to remove the lure from the sharks mouth. The hook remained, but luckily they are designed to dissolve over time.

Yes the diver made an attempt but he should of been smarter to understand to remove the hook from the mouth. Not the harmless fishing lure, but the HOOK embedded in the MOUTH
@kamikaze8625
@kamikaze8625 5 лет назад
"Although there is much debate on this, the long and short of it is that there is a better chance of the fish losing or shaking off the hook before it dissolves, especially the newer hooks that were not made to be “biodegradable” (there have even been reports of fish “pooping” out hooks). The long and short of it is, most fish hooks are going to take a LONG time to completely dissolve. Will they rust, weaken, and be more bendable? Of course! But to completely dissolve is another story. Try it yourself… go put a hook in a cup of saltwater and a cup of freshwater and see how long it takes to erode… you might be waiting a long time…" 'Study' taken from Saltstrong.com

J W - Exactly CORRECT . What is called "reefing" or reef netting totally sucks . We drag reefs with grappling hooks and pull netting away using boat power & electric winches and cut netting as we go . The total weight of some nets can be as much as 250 kilograms and it pisses some people off when we grind up their nets for recycling or burn them . I lived in Thailand for a few years after the Vietnam war . ATB

That was a stainless steel hook, it will not be dissolved over the entire life of the shark!!!!. The "piercing" attached to the hook was a chemical glow stick. The correct approach it´s to push the hook until the hook barb appears out from the skin and then cut it, sometimes it needs a small bolt cutter but usually a cutting plier it´s enough.

I love these videos showing how smart animals are. They know humans will help them when they need it. Unbelievable. I still don't understand how they know. There is no way that animal/human friendship is based on experience with good humans alone. There has to be either a genetic memory of the goodness of humanity or there is a spiritual kinship between humans and nature that cannot be broken... Its probably a combination of life experience, genetic memory, spiritual kinship. I wonder if there is a cultural reason behind it too. Is it possible that animals who are saved by humans are capable of communicating this experience to others?
