As a Mother.. when her mother rolled up and said “I’m here, baby.” I haven’t cried like this since 13 Reasons Why when the Mom found her daughter in the bath tub. How frightening to see your child in this sort of state 😭
A wild fact about arteries … if they’re nicked, you bleed out so fast. Especially in water. But if they are completely severed they shrink and close up … the shark perfectly severed her artery causing it to close … so she didn’t lose a lethal amount of blood.
She did, she still surfs today. This movie, if you watch the entire thing is about her recovery and how she got back on the board and back to professional surfing.
Alana's dad saved Bethany's life with that split second decision to drive and meet the ambulance on the way. If it hadn't been for him Bethany wouldn't be with us today.
No question. He absolutely saved her life, they all did. If there was only two of them with her she dies guaranteed. I’m willing to bet thus scene is very accurate as to how it actually went down. Fucking fantastic movie. Bethany Hamilton is a real life inspiration.
AnnaSophia Robb should've won an academy award for her performance of Bethany Hamilton. How she stayed calm in the face of overwhelming pain was Oscar worthiness.
She wasn't in pain, she was probably in so much shock. When something so physically painful happens, our brains "shut down" when it comes to it. Very interesting phenomenon.
Wow this scene of soul surfer has so much emotion it’s intense I was on my edge of the seat the whole time when i saw this scene and the whole movie is amazing and inspiring and another thing our god is an awesome to make miracles like Bethany’s happen
The only thing I wish they did was show her shoulder of her amputated moving while she paddled. They strapped a prosthetic on AnnaSophia Robb so not really possible, but Bethany has been paddling with two arms her entire life. Instinctually she’d probably try to paddle with the second one as well because it hadn’t sunk it fully that it wasn’t there anymore. While she was paddling with one arm, her other shoulder would probably be moving like it was trying to paddle too. She has said she wasn’t in a lot of pain because of pure shock (thankfully)
I’ve seen this movie before and read about the real Bethany Hamilton online and I thought just imagine the pain she went through after a shark bit off her arm!
That’s something I never knew before about Bethany’s real story behind her losing her arm from a shark, Of course they aren’t going to include everything that happened in the real story in the movie. I even follow Bethany Hamilton on social media and I even watched her compete in a diving competition on television one time when it was a school night for me and it was in between NASCAR Races and there was nothing else on tv for a school night evening. Bethany even wrote a book about her story if I remember correctly.
Even though I'm not a parent, I felt the Mom's pain when she said please don’t take her, she was so afraid of losing Bethany, and I don’t blame the Dad either for wanting to get outta the emergency room after he heard about Bethany too
I remember watching this when it came out and my dad was getting mad at Bethany’s friend for throwing up and crying for most of the time. She was literally 13 years old at the time of the attack and I was 12 when the movie came out. I probably would’ve reacted the same way if I saw my best friend in that state. Kids wouldn’t know what to do in that situation and aren’t mentally expecting for it to happen. Thank the Lord that her best friend’s dad and brother were there, or else Bethany would’ve most likely have died. Her friend probably would’ve blamed herself and lived with that guilt her whole life because she didn’t know what to do. She still listened to her dad and tried her best to stay calm when they were taking Bethany to meet the ambulance
i love how the guy never stopped for a second when the truck was locked grabbed that rock and bam no hesitation grabbed the phone and ran back to bethany
@@dancingjessiicq I can see why - I play Maneater (a game where you play as an man eating shark) and if I think about from the human’s perspective it’s honestly kinda terrifying 😂. And add that to the fact that I’m still 13!
I remember watching this after out teacher read the story with the whole class in primary school and I was 10 that time and my heart still pounds and I get shivers when it reaches to this scene!!!!!
Dispite being a G rated movie, the shark attack is still frighting. They did an excellent job making it seem realistic enough without being too graftic and staying within the G rating. This is a very deep movie overall, especially for a G rating.
TBH, when I first saw this movie, i didn't understand it, but when it's about beaches, I tried to cover it, due to any possibilities of shark attacks, and I was surprised on it. It was in a class I was watching it.
I always wanted to see this movie. I still remember when Bethany Hamilton was a bit by the shark. We were the same age and I remember the store Limited Too had a lot of merchandise with her name attached to it. It was crazy and inspiring how someone only a few months younger than me had gone through so much, yet still loved sharks and was going back into the water to surf again.
Every year only five people of all humanity on earth die because of a shark attack and only 60 are bitten but survive every year. She really did have bad luck.
I remember being a little girl watching Bethany on TV I couldn't believe she had her arm ripped off by a shark and was still alive. Makes me scared to go into the ocean really. But yet I still wanna go to Hawaii and swim there too. She is a hero. God gsve her a gift and she lost her arm but it was for a reason
The sound of the Hawaiian man chanting or singing with the instensity of the drumbeats and the bird's eye view of the ocean and the beach would be as if both the islands and the ocean was were calling for her death and the change in music and singing of the Hawaiian guy just would mean that the ocean and islands realize that she'll live thanks to Holt (Alana's dad). The islands and ocean were able to detect Bethany's survival. The ocean is basically her second home so the ocean was able to realize that Bethany will survive
@JaydenJaguarKingOfTheJungle Uhm no. You don't have to be careful going to the ocean. You have to be careful , If u do decide , to go and how far u go. I don't hate neither. The ocean is the sharks territory. I'll be honest and say I hate sharks. And I'm not that crazy about the ocean either. I love to walk on the beach. U have to respect the ocean.
Is this movie based on a true story? It's so heartbreaking if it's real. I thought sharks attacking humans is very rare in real life, and it's exaggerated in movies. But it seems that it's common for sharks to attack humans.
god damn i cannot imagine lsoing your arm like that wtf that would be so painful and also the knowledge of knowing that you will live the rest of your life without both arms.
