I also noticed with your short hair you were taking more horizontal layers to curl, you may be a better result taking vertical sections and making sure to keep the dryer straight up and down. Also taking the section and wrapping it around the barrel yourself (not letting the air do the job for you) has better control of the final product. Good luck playing around! I know you love a good experiment 😆❤️✌️
It's definitely a great replacement for multiple tools! I ordered the seperate diffuser for drying my natural curls and love it so much - its the same one that attaches to the Shark hair dryer. I've essentially replaced my hair dryer and curling iron with this as well as my revlon dryer brush since the shark comes with that attachment too!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your videos. You’re easy to watch because your personality is welcoming and sweet and it’s evident that you care. You are also a great teacher and clearly know your craft. 😊
I honestly think your hair still looked cute at the end of the day, my hair would totally fall out worse as my day goes by since I have super fine (we cal it baby fine) hair
This was very helpful! I have hair similar to your length but mine is low density. I don't think I'm going to spring for this one. I have the Shark dryer with the awesome diffuser so I think I will just stick with it. I use a curling iron to make a few wonky curls behave, and I think I will just stick with this routine. Thanks for reviewing it and giving your honest feedback. You just saved me about $200 bucks. Thanks, and I always enjoy your videos. God bless!
I have been a lifelong short hair person pretty much, and especially right at shoulder length where you have it, you will pretty much always fight the Lucy look unfortunately. It’s something about the shoulders hitting the ends of your hair and making them curl out that way. It’s not necessarily just a hair tool. I bet you will have issues with that with wearing it naturally or any other curling iron. This is one of the reasons I have over straightened my hair because I’ve been fighting bad Lucy curl lol. But I love that you gave it a name😂 if you cut it just a little bit shorter so that your hair doesn’t touch your shoulders that will help eliminate that a lot.
This is an adorable look on your short hair Courtney! I love the look on long hair too. Its a long blow out type of look without having to fuss with a round brush. I like it! I want this now. Sadly this came out almost immediately after I bought the HyperAir. I would have preferred this one. I would try using a mousse or styling serum with this to help hold the style.
That was SO helpful!!! I have long naturally wavy hair, am a pro with a curling iron but thought this looked simpler, prior to your video. I’ll stick with my $20 conair curling irons.
Thanks for the super helpful review, I was looking at this and just got my hair chopped to a similar style to yours. Think I won’t bother, but might buy the Babyliss Wave Secret instead.
I agree. I just bought this. It's more of a novelty product than anything else. It doesn't perform as well as my Revlon Instyler. The curls lasted just fine on me but not better than any other curler for the cost.
I found alternating the curls makes the curls last longer since they can't bunch up together! Also you used the ghost the oil does that mean you would use more products with silicone going forward? It would be interesting to compare silicone based vs not silicone based products that have similar claims!
Thanks for the video! Maybe some mousse would help the hold? I was generously gifted the dyson version this Christmas and the results are similar to yours. Nice for once in a while
Have you tried applying stylers as usual, then plopping, then use it to dry each clump as it curls naturally rather than diffusing? I avoid changing barrels & hold it upside down instead. This enhances your natural curl pattern & makes a world of difference!
Yesss it does drop so much! I don’t think it is just you. I think it’s the nature of this particular styling technique. It’s much more a Farrah Fawcett situation.
I think if after you use it, you should put your curls in curlers until they completely cool and maybe add some mousse beforehand. When I blow out my hair that always gives me the best result and then hitting it with some very light hairspray
I got it and it doesn’t work well on my coarse frizz prone wavy hair. It only looks good curled if I straighten it first and that’s too much work, otherwise it’s all frizzy. And to straighten my hair I get better results with my regular blow dryer and round brush. I’m gonna return it.
I got the shark flex style for Christmas and returned it. I was not impressed. The only part I liked was the shark diffuser but it took almost double the time to dry as my dyson. The curls took a long time. I envisioned taking large sections and it being fast but you do have to take small sections and my hair is thick so it took forever and was barely a wave by the next day. There are great heatless curl options that work well for me so just not worth it. I wanted to love it.
The barrel is just too fat and it makes the curls too large and loose for there to be any staying power with them. Is there an option for a skinnier barrel on the tool? I think you had much better curls when you just styled it with products and the diffuser.
I dont have either a Dyson or a Shark, but I have a Laifen Swift and it works really great and is less expensive than both. Courtney did a video comparing a Dyson and a Shark, then another comparing a Shark and a Laifen. Ultimately IIRC she found that the Shark was better than the Dyson and the Laifen did just as well as the Shark.
I realized there was a reason all the TikTok reviews were long haired girlies. My daughters hair is long and took to this really well. My hair is slightly longer than yours and does the flip-out thing within an hour. I really hate it.
Haha my natural waves have always given me some of the effect you mention after wear on the short hair, except it wasn't even that elegant - just kind of like an annoying bell lol
I think if you have super fine hair that doesn't hold a curl well you pretty much have to use some sort of hold product or the curl will fall. Especially with tools like this that only really give a soft look. I would try incorporating a mousse to your damp hair and seeing if that prolongs the style
@swavycurlycourtney - Actually, it's better for your ends not to have them that close to the heat or for a long time. I wish there was another chapter where the hair was done using gel or other styling/holding products so we could see if that would have improved the results. (Love how your hair looks anyway, Courtney!)
That why I just got a blow dry brush I feel like those curls don’t really last like a currently in iron I mean it still look pretty at the end of the day on your hair but I don’t feel like it’s worth the $270
Question: I saw you really liked the Shark HyperAir when you compared it to your Dyson Supersonic. Do you think the dryer on the Flex is as powerful as the HyperAir? I love the HyperAir! I can't decide if I want the Flex (and its barrels) bad enough or if I should just stick to the HyperAir.😄
Are you using the 1.25 barrels or the .95 barrels. I have should length hair and don’t have good results with the larger barrels. I am wondering about buying the smaller ones.
Do you think it would hold better with a product afterward? I use a very small amount of Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft Curls with wet hands to hold my curls and it helps a lot without making my hair greasy or crunchy.
