For the character Oscar, I'm almost like him. Sometimes it's hard when you feel like you're an insecured nobody and you want be a somebody who would give you respect and attention.
That's what makes Oscar a relatable character. He wants to be rich and famous not because he wants to leave the life that he had behind, but he believes it is the only to get the respect that he yearns for.
@@elmtreecomics6036 Oscar is a insecure douchebag. He had enough friends at the Whalewash and the only person who didn't like him was his boss because of his fuck ups. The entire conflict in the movie is his fault because he lied on killing a shark for clout which caused Don Lino to nearly kill Angie in revenge.
@@SolBin-b4m Well, that's what make Oscar a relatable character and how he yearns to respect from others due to the traumantic experience he faced during his childhood.
Oscar's problems are rooted in a deep lack of self confidence. He allows other's opinions of he and his family cloud his judgement into what he really wants in life, that of which is love and acceptance. He confuses this love and acceptance with blind admiration that people have towards celebrities, where people will just like them for no particular reason, but not in a way like Angie would where they would have his back in his lowest times.
@@aliyahavery31 you know those kids in his class you know not every job is glamorous you know that sometimes i wish it was and its very obvious that his dad took pride in this work
@@aliyahavery31 i have a question do you think this film could of had a sequel/tv show continuation cause while its not exactly the critics darling it did make a lot of money also i think this film does the liar revealed trope better than a bugs life there i sad it at least its not as hypocritcal
@@kelsey1467 Yes, I absolutely think it should have a sequel, and it's own liar revealed is something very unique since somebody else would reveal the lie and Oscar has been living his lie for a while and have decided to tell the truth whcih was the right thing to do right after he learned from his mistakes.
When I was a little kid, I've always enjoyed this movie, and I still love it today. I bet many other people still love the movie today as well, even when they used to be young.
@@ejay1912 I still love and watch the movie so much too, and I've decided to do a whole sixteen-part miniseries version of the movie on Fanfic with brand new scenes, characters, and locations :D
I don't care what other people say! This is a good movie no matter what, and I bet some other people think it's a really good movie as well. I also honestly sympathize Oscar's motivation to be a somebody and earn respect from others.
Oscar: My dad was the greatest, but nobody loves a nobody. I wanna be a somebody. Angie: Oscar. You don't have to live at the top of the reef to be a somebody. Me: She's right. The top of the reef is only for the most popular celebrities in Southside Reef. You might be living the good life already, and you should listen to your heart instead of your head. So...you should appreciate what you already have. Becoming rich and famous can't be the answer of gaining respect.
1:36 PTSD in Middle school man I hate that shit That's why I'm always imagining that If only I have been taken back in time as kid while still gaining the knowledge I have right now I'd be roasting anyone left n right
Fun fact, Renée Zellweger also voiced a character called Vanessa Bloome in another DreamWorks animated film called Bee Movie, which was released three years later in 2007
I honestly don't care about what people say about Oscar. Even though he can be selfish and exasperating, he's still a good person who only wanted to earn some respect from others, and he learns that being a somebody isn't about being rich and famous after all. Oscar learns that being a somebody is about having friends who care about you and being yourself.
@@bondseanbond5190 Yeah, that's right. Oscar has a really good character development, and he realizes that being a somebody is about being yourself and having friends who would be there for you.
That's right. Being a somebody is about being yourself and having best friends who like who for who you are, and it isn't really about being rich and famous. Everybody is special in their own way and they are their own person, Oscar.
Okay this flashback is pretty sad. Imagine, to you, your dad is your hero no matter what he does but to everyone else, he’s a loser all because of his job.
Hey kids no bulling no pushing no yelling no swimming no drinking no eating no talk in the halls that's the school rules do not talk on test be quiet shhh
I wish they gave us a scene where Angie asked Oscar what happened to the money he was supposed to give to Mr Sykes. My guess is he most likely lied to her about it
Oscar: I don't know, Ang. It's just hard, a'ight? Because, um, I'm a little fish in a big pond. A really big pond. The ocean. I'm a nobody. I want some of that.
While in the present, Oscar makes a lot of reckless and selfish decisions in the pursuit of a shallow ambition of becoming rich and famous, his reason behind it is quite tragic. I sympathize with Oscar despite his faults.
Even though Oscar can be selfish, he is a good person since he values his friendship with Angie and other people who are his friends such as the shorties and Crazy Joe. I sympathize him as much as anyone else would.
@@elmtreecomics6036 I guess a lot of people did misunderstood Oscar's main motivation in the film, and I know the reason why he wants to be rich and famous is to earn respect from others. Also, he is one of my favorite characters in the film.
Oscar is a jerk, she is loyal and cares about him and gives him something so valuable, but the moment he himself rises a bit he gets himself someone hotter immediately.
@@bonniestar4707 I think if the tables were turned, if he sold a priceless family heirloom to pay off her debts, and she would still continue fucking around and found a new bad boy just after she became wealthy, then he turns out to be a jerk so she goes back to oscar, I think she would be absolutely torn apart if she behaved how oscar did in this movie.
I strongly agree with you, and Oscar should just listen to his heart instead of his head and being rich and famous isn't the answer of becoming a somebody and getting respect.
