“This is unacceptable “!!!!?!?? What’s UNACCEPTABLE is trapping wild sharks and putting them in tubs with ignorant humans, for revenue!!! Now the sharks are going to pay the ultimate price for doing what comes naturally to them! Human ignorance and greed! This is as evil as Seaworld! Rest in peace precious Tilicum.
I'm glad this kid is ok BUT he never should have been in that tank. This is on his parents. I'm surprised that this hasn't happened before. Sharks are not pets. There is a reason you sign a waiver.
So according to the company, shark bites are never acceptable. Yet it’s perfectly acceptable to take sharks out of their natural environment just to make money?
This is so stupid. Sharks should never be in a contained area like that and they should never have people in there for the health and benefit of the SHARKS.
Why haven’t they learned already???? I went to the Bahamas and stayed down the road at the Holiday Inn. The Atlantis was newer. We ate dinner and gambled there one night. We jet skied and took pictures somehow lol It was in 2002. It was awesome. Back to the point. Sharks are a massive part of the ecosystem down there and should never be caged for entertainment. I’m sure it’s awesome to look at them whenever u want and I would be mesmerized by it but then saddened. We need to stop confining wild animals, period.
I was at Atlantis resort when this happened. My wife and I rode the slide that travels safely through that shark tank in a tube. There are nurse sharks (harmless) and Caribbean reef sharks (not so harmless) in that tank. At first I thought the reef sharks were bull sharks until I saw that people were swimming with them and then I took a closer look and could see that they were reef sharks. I cant remember if it was Sunday or Monday (the day of the attack), but I was going on about how "not so harmless" reef sharks are. My brother in law was really poking fun at me, "there goes Scott about his sharks again", stuff like that. That night, about 9PM (either 5 hours after the attack or 20 hours before the attack) I was by myself looking into the tank through the massive windows just mesmerized by them. I was all alone looking at them swim by (maybe about 20 all together, 10 reef and 10 nurse) with only the thickness of the glass between us. By then I had done a little research into reef sharks and knew that they have been responsible for a few attacks. I really got a close look at the teeth which were pretty small compared to how big they were and compared to white sharks. At that time, I did not know that tourists could go into the tank and I thought the divers I saw worked there since I figured tourists would not be allowed in the tank with these "not so harmless" sharks. We had a great time and came home on Wednesday knowing nothing of the attack. This morning we saw on the news about the boy. I figured it must have happened after we left and was quite surprised to find out we were there when it happened. My wife remembered seeing cops there and when she asked about it they told her it was nothing. The Atlantis is absolutely beautiful and we had a really good time, but things were not as safe as they would like you to believe. The Bahamas are almost entirely supported by tourism, especially from Americans so I can understand them wanting to downplay the dangers. I don't think it is terribly unsafe, but there are some risks of being victimized by crime. We heard that women should be careful because there have been some rapes. And some of the water slides and white water rafting seemed a little dangerous, but I figured that they had it all worked out. When my wife was next in line to ride that slide down into the shark tank, a young boy slipped off his raft and my wife helped him and went to push him down the slide not knowing that the next person could only go when the light turned green. The attendant jumped off her seat and jumped across the slide preventing the boy from going down the slide. There was nothing preventing a person from going down too soon, nothing at all and there were very young kids. I had not yet gone down so I did not understand just why that attendant really jumped across as though it was life threatening. After riding it down, I learned just how dangerous it would be for someone to go too early. Of course I am reflecting back about the safety of things knowing about the shark attack and how the resort had obviously covered up the attack. How many other things have been covered up? I would still go back, but I would never again assume that things are as safe as they would have you believe. That slide would never be allowed in the states. If you go there, be very aware of your own safety and do not assume things are as safe as you would expect them to be in the states. DO NOT take the word of the employees about any dangers because they will tell you everything is perfectly safe and not to worry at all. You have to remember that the Bahamas are pretty much devoid of natural resources and without tourism they could not survive so you really cant blame them. My brother in law was really giving me the business about how I was going on about the sharks. Cant wait to see him at the next family get together. The reef sharks looked to be about 5 feet long and the mouths seemed to be about 8 inches across so they could take a good sized bite out of a 10 YO boy. I hope the boy is OK.
There are several slides in the US that ppl have to wait to go. There was a light and an attendant… when I was on the Atlantis slide everyone knew the deal bc you watch others get ready to go down. Your wife must be a bit dense or have zero situational awareness she was the danger.
I have a young son so I 100% feel the pain for him and his family but I gotta say sharks are sharks. Walking with sharks is a high risk and even higher for a child. I would never let my son at that age do that. U can never take 100% risk out actions. But I hope he recovers soon as well as gets some money from the company then they need to change safety protocols or just close the even permanently
Protocalls???? You willingly put your child in that tank with WILD sharks.....when are people gonna learn. Nothing like that should be available unless in a cage!
One primary comment: bad parents. These are sharks. And you are supposed to feel better because they are less aggressive shark species than the other sharks? You are surprised that a shark bit your kid? Here is a tip, dolphins good, sharks bad. Got it? Why is it that in 2024 animals and ocean life are still being abused by being taken out of their natural environment and put in cages or tanks. Any captivity is cruel. Again I just don't get it. If you have a child I don't care what age and you let them go in a tank with live sharks you need your head examined.
This shark tank experience is so wrong on so many levels. People should never take part in such an activity. One can only hope that the boy gets well and is not traumatized by this experience as well as just keps up the love for sharks.
Sometimes Darwin takes the adult, sometimes the lesson hits stronger by taking the kids. Whodathought walking with sharks would result in a leg bite? Everybody but his stupid parents
A underage child should have never been there. No defense, and quite smaller than an adult and more of a curiosity or lunch. Im glad everyone responded quickly and that he will be ok.
It’s not normal to trap wild animals and then add humans into the mix. It was just a matter of time before this happened. It’s not the sharks fault. It’s not the parents fault because they thought they were safe. This is the fault of the people operating it.
