It should also be mentioned that the shark iq self empty doesn’t require proprietary bags like the roomba’s which was a big factor in my purchase decision. I don’t want to be locked into buying overpriced bags for the life of the device.

Bags are extremely cheap and last a long time. A bagless base is definitely something I would avoid. 3rd party bags will be available for cheap for decades and there are no filters to change in the base unlike Shark.

Always sad to lose a subscriber, but you cannot please everyone. The reason I don't think Shark IQ is as good simply comes down to performance. 1) It was only able to remove 74% of debris in our low carpet tests 2) It was only able to remove 90% of debris in our high carpet tests 3) Its navigation struggled throughout our full home cleaning tests 4) The dust bin clogged during our tests and the dust bin is incredibly small, which might not be a big issue given the self empty. However, clogging on a relatively small amount is problematic and speaks to lager design issues. 5) In terms of build quality it's just not there. The plastics used just don't feel robust and don't give me confidence that it will last. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a bad robot vacuum, but compared to Roomba it's just not at the same level. Granted...Roomba is more expensive, but what's the point of buying an inexpensive robot if the performance and quality isn't there? If self empty + inexpensive is more important, then by all means, Shark is a fine pick. But if better performance, better build quality, and better navigation is important then Roomba is clearly better.

Haha...indeed. To its credit, I don't think Shark dropped all of those. My camera man placed stuff to close to that clean base...which to your point, Shark does have a hard time cleaning right next to the base. I have the shark iq as it was on sale for 389 Canadian at Costco. Its cleaning is great for our bottom floor which is mostly hard floor. I really like that it has two outside brush rollers. A lot of these vacuums only have this on one side. Yes dog hair does get caught into the brush rollers here and there. I have had to clean it out. But not having to pay for bags… that alone is priceless.

I have the Shark IQ RV1001AE and it does have all the bells and whistles that you said the Shark IQ didn't have. Maybe you tested a different model? Shark IQ RV1001AE has high suction settings on the app, mapping, it does in fact resume after charge / after empty etc. It does not leave debris near the docking station if it's in cleaning mode.
@ModernCastle
@ModernCastle 3 года назад
Apparently I didn't communicate those thoughts very well, so my apologies for that. It's not that Shark doesn't have those features, it's that they don't perform as well / at all. 1. Despite the "high suction" setting on the app, it's overall cleaning performance was significantly worse than Roomba and many other robots we've tested 2. The digital mapping failed to work at any level even after numerous training runs. The map never appeared and could not be interacted with / customized. 3. In our tests the Shark IQ did leave debris near the docking station In any case, it sounds like your experience was massively better than what we had with Shark. But I can only really talk about what we saw based on our experience while testing and using the Shark. Had our experience been more like yours my view of Shark's IQ would be significantly better.

A testament to why suction power isn't the end all be all metric. I have been running a roomba for about 6 months ago. I enjoy having the cleaner floors, but I'm disappointed in it's lack of efficiency as time has moved on. I don't understand why it will go to an area start cleaning there and then go back to an area it has already been and clean there again only to come back and finish up where it left for no reason. It could be finished so much quicker if it just stayed in the different areas until it was done. I have about 500 sqft where I run the roomba and it takes almost an hour to clean it. I also hate that it doesn't clean around the base at all.
@ModernCastle
@ModernCastle 3 года назад
Yeah, I hear you there. If it makes you feel any better this type of better is pretty similar across manufacturers. I've seen it in both Roomba, Roborock, and a number of others. When it comes to speed, none of them are really amazing. But I would guess that really is a low priority for the designers.

Great review. I recently ditched roomba for the shark iq. I had the s9+ and hate it it’s garbage I’ve had 2 of them and they constantly error telling me the bun is full when it’s empty, clogging when emptying and getting stuck on very thin mats. I’ve contacted iRobot many times and they just argue with me that I need to do something with it to fix it reset it or whatever and I’ve never gotten anywhere at this point I just want my money back it was a waste of $1000 and the shark IQ although not having quite as many advanced features or feeling as high end is 1 million times better value which is really sad because I used to love a robot in fact I had many roombas that I loved prior to the s9+ i’m planning on doing a review on the S9 plus versus the shark IQ and showing what a piece of crap the S9 plus is

@ModernCastle
@ModernCastle 3 года назад
Many people have opined the same, and it's just un-true. While iRobot has given me several models for free (S9+, i3+, and e5), that bears no impact on our recommendations or reviews. Moreover, we've purchased far more Roomba models than Shark. We purchased and reviewed the Roomba 870, 890, 675, 690, i7+, 960, and 980 before Roomba ever sent us any product for free. We also liked them just as much then as we do now. We have the same type of affiliate relationship with Shark as we do we Roomba. But, to be fair, Shark has not sent us free products. While I agree, we could have done a better job of explaining some of Shark's features in this video, they were not merely "forgotten". Most of those features just didn't work, namely the mapping, which to this day has never worked in any capacity on our Shark IQ. Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of Shark's robot vacuum line. There are just better vacuums out there. But in general, I do really like Shark as a company. Their uprights and cordless stick vacuums are among are very favorites and best reviewed.

Over half of the time, it will not do the correct room and then dock as if it finished.
