It's a SHAME the kids of 2017 never knew what real dance and music was like in the 70's and the Dance era of the 80's..Sharon Redd, Sylvester , Ross, Dan Hartman, Lime, etc....We really had a great time back then.
Was searching her out came across this and finding out more about prelude records and even her illness. She was really giving it in this and made me really appreciate her besides “can you handle it” which I love. Post disco is a treasure; I will never forget it.
This was New Year’s Eve 1983 onto 84. It was a club /Cabaret called “ les mouches “. I was there. She was awesome but I remember the audience being dead some really did nt know who she was anyway. It’s great to see this performance after 33 years omg !!!! I was 27 ! Rip Sharon
First met Sharon when she was with Bette Midler in Cleveland Ohio. Then I met her again in New York City it was so sad to hear about how her life ended. Rock in peace,💖
The whole set where this track was taken from "Redd Hott" is simply awesome. I still have the vinyl and play it on my turn table. They sure don't make music like this anymore!
I remember this lady handling herself in front of a couple hundread drunk sailors at the club I worked at and we had her on stage ,never seen a act that can give better than she got from the sailors .rip Sharon we miss you
I grew with Sharon Redd and the like in the funk/ dance era of the 80's. I was at school when this came out, used to take my ghetto blaster to school and play it on MAX volume with my mates at breaks - much to my tutors annoyance !!! 😎😊
Wow, such a great vocalist. I remember the glitter hair gel from the 1970s. Single serving glass containers of gel and you'd pop the blister pack of the glitter and mix then put on on your hair. We'd buy several and put all the of the glitter packs into one gel pack for "ultimate glitter effect" when we'd go to the disco. Such a happy time back then, such happy music.
I walked down the steps at Backstreet Atlanta, knowing my lover/boyfriend/"partner" just announced he loves me but not in love anymore and he loves another guy. I am 61 and will never forget this. So fucking painful. I came down from Ohio with such high hopes and then met (*) I was so broken it took years. And I listen to Ms Redd make all of feel bad. No I was not an athlete, but I was AND AM CUTE...A wonderful Flight Attendant for American Airlines 34 years. Boys always step back and NEVER let ANYONE make you feel bad about yourself..BECAUSE WE DO ENOUGH TO OURSELVES..I Love all of you, Tim
This has to be a "straight club". Loser guys on the right (idiots) and no one is really dancing or moving to her incredible performance. She rocks this house and everyone is standing around clueless. MISS YOU SHARON ! RIP.....
According to discogs: died May 1, 1992 of pneumonia, Wikipedia: In the midst of mounting a comeback in the early 1990s, Sharon Redd died of pneumonia on May 1, 1992. Dance Music Report magazine reported that her death was AIDS-related.
AWESOME She so loved to lock into some audience members - When she decenced on a UFO at HEAVEN London (you needed to be there) she locked eyes with me and went full on ALIEN lol others noticed and she would not release the stare - I escaped by dropping to my knees and slid off the floor behind the crowd lol Very special lady and clubbing in the 80s would never have been so awesome without her.
She sadly passed away through pneumonia in 1994, just as she was about make a comeback. She had a hit with DNA of her previous record can you handle it in 1994.
Poor girl she suffered at the end bcos there was no drugs to assist with the final stages of aids at the time ... she looked so old and defeated.... poor girl ❤
Look how quick everyone judges the "football team" those guys were having fun and she had fun with them, if they weren't there it would have been like a funeral. It was a club, not a church.
You need to go and hide in your ghetto. Who cares if they are gay or straight. Their entrance fee helped to contribute to her appearance fee. She was a professional performer. That's all that matters.
I agree. although as a singer myself, it could be due to a poor feedback system or sound technician. it is a bit ropey, which is shame as this is a very haunting performance considering her fate. RIP
even the greatest of artists have bad vocal moments. I had the great opportunity to go to a sound check with her when she performed at a club in LA...I can tell you this woman was a powerhouse with her vocals. May have been an off night for her.
Discovery781 I agree, she seems not to be taking it to seriously. Being goofy with the audience is translating through her vocals. I love the studio version of this song and also Never Give You Up.
