Sharp GF-9595 review and demo, discussing faults, build quality and demo. In my opinion one of the best Sharp radio cassettes players made in terms of build quality and sound for its size.
I had one of them. Impressive but delicate, truly expensive and a battery hog. A piece of history of the '80. It was on the beaches of the entire world in the two summers of '82 and '83. People used it to setup an impromptu discotheque at the night. Some run it on a car battery, but that blew the audio output IC after a while. Thank you for the video...
Many boomboxes just stopped working without reason. This was caused by the defective Dolby IC. That IC is a primitive analogue sound processor build with transconductance operational amplifiers (voltage controlled op amps), with a technology which wasn't yet mature at the time.
The bad boy that really got the oarty started was the GF9191 in 1978. It had phono inputs. And a warm analogue sound. Still a great box to get hold of. And relatively cheap 2nd hand.
I have the GF-8585....but needs a little overhaul. It's also of massive built quality like your nice 9595. Yes...the little rubber tire on the capstan is also gone. But i have a replacement for it(a piece of pneumatic hose)
I'm currently servicing my GF-9595 which I bought over 15 years ago for £5 - the rubber take-up tyre is still fine, though the rewind gear appears to be broken. Looking on ebay I notice a few current kits of toothed gears for toy robots etc. - is there a kit you recommend for the correct sized rewind gear ( 200 piece, 82pcs, 72pcs, 58pcs, 26pcs) ?
A tough one as I cant remember I think I went with a large bag as I would have been handy to have some for spares. if its not all that expencive go for the bigger bag as you have more chance of finding something that fits
