@ "Poor men dying to make rich men richer? Now that's capitalism." No it isn't socialist. wrong framing! The correct framing is... "Poor AND Rich men dying to make their Country Richer? Now that's Mercantilism" Capitalism is were people produce goods and services for profit to which they then "FREELY" Trade with each other... and by "FREELY" Trade I mean... to trade without tariffs and subsidies on traded goods. The British Empire was by definition Mercantile... not Capitalist. It wasn't until the repeal of the corn laws in 1846 that Britain went form being a mercantile Country... to a Capitalist Country. The British Empire was by definition still Mercantile, yet The Mother Country was not anymore. Britain hasn't been Capitalist since the Great War, with a brief shift back to being mercantile between the two wars, and then after the war Britain moved to a very very mixed economy consisting of Mercantilism, Capitalism, Corporatism and Socialism, which is still the case to day in Britain, although in a much more moderate way than it was in the post war era. www.worldatlas.com/articles/what-is-mercantilism.html

He was only politically opposed to Wellington he had nothing to do with the Peninsular campaign. He was interested in leading the British campaign but when the command was given to Wellington Tarleton flatly refused to serve under him. And as Sharpe wants nothing to do with politics it wouldn't have made sense to Bring him in. He is mentioned in the books, there is a scene where Wellington grips about the things Tarleton is saying about him in parliament during one of the campaign's setbacks.

Same reason anyone does. If Cain can kill Able, his own brother, after the Lord tried to talk him out of it, then it is easy for a man to kill his own country men. It’s easier for imperial forces to do so as well because of the less intimate relationship then might hold. As an American I have read of many defectors who got greedy.

Sarnt Sharpe not only makes the only show of spirited defense out of the whole garrison (with 3 kills) but when shot in the head merely cops a scalp graze. The raiders then neglect to check whether he is really dead whilst leisurely finishing off all his wounded comrades, thus enabling him to be the sole survivor of a near-total massacre. Killer Joy in the books, sharpe started as a private in the 33rd, a line regiment. When he was given his battlefield commission he was sent to the 95th

When he was commissioned he went to a Scots regiment, he didn’t settle with them and basically didn’t fit in. It was suggested to him that he try a new regiment, the experimental corps of riflemen aka the 95th. The 95th encouraged more independent intelligent thinking from all of its members it was felt he would fit in better than in an established old regiment..

Should have given his victims the 300 Safety Check. Would have been a happier ending for that villain.
