Hello! I’m currently studying the Charles Barge method but I’m having a hard time create a lighter strokes. Can you give tip how to smoothly transition from dark to light?
@Gnaboaix
@Gnaboaix 2 года назад
People tend to underestimate how much time is needed to make a beautiful transition, me included when I first started. It takes a long time! Have the pencil sharp, and very lightly fill in the space. With patience and a sharp pencil, you will get it for sure!! :)

Hey, do you ever use a blending stump? I have been watching other tutorials where they use blending stumps, but whenever I use them I seem to get smudgy, dirty looking results. Can you please make a more specific tutorial on how to render the graphite in terms of how to get the value totally even? I see you're basically picking out the dark spots with the pointed kneaded eraser and trying to fill in the white holes of the tooth of the paper with the academically sharpened sharp pencil, but even knowing this, it's hard to do it myself as I've never seen someone actually do it in real time in HD up close on camera. If you could make a video like that I would love you forever XD
@Gnaboaix
@Gnaboaix Год назад
It's exactly like how you described, I didn't smudge it. It's was picking out dark spots and filling holes. :) I do have a longer video here where I rendered an arm in real time.

Wow that's really impressive and very precise work ! How long did this one take you ? And also, do you think it's possible to try Bargue without an art teacher ? Your channel is great keep it going :)
@Gnaboaix
@Gnaboaix 3 года назад
Thank you so much! How long I spent on this? I lost track, I finished it in two month, on and off, I'd say in total about 50 hrs+ ish? Yeah you can learn anything without teacher, it's just going to be harder once you hit a block, or the risk of doing the wrong thing again and again and then becomes a bad habit.. But it is not that bad, just do a lot research I think :)

@@Gnaboaix Oh yeah you have to be very patient, i'll try one just to see. Thanks !

@@ninoky6525 Yes. One thing about Bargue practice is -- you want your copy to be as exact as possible, forms, shapes, values. line qualities, etc.. Print a physic page and do a 1 to 1 copy for scale. Good Luck!

It's not a notebook, it's stonehenge paper, but you could drawing this in a notebook. I did that before, in a dollar store art sketchbook.

Are you using charcoal?

No, I used 2H, HB, and 2B graphite.

I thought it was supposed to be done with charcoal.
@Gnaboaix

Graphite is easier than charcoal, more beginner friendly. Charcoal is next level - as I progressed in academic training I did move on to charcoal and I have my video here where I do charcoal drawing too :)

I am with you@@Gnaboaix ! I started working on long pose, live model charcoal drawings recently, and despite having some experience, it's a whole new challenge. It is growing on me. It felt intimidating at first but now I am hooked on this medium. I mentioned it because in the Bargue book at the end, they give instructions on how to do the plates and it said that it had to be copied in charcoal, which sounded so hard to do at first.
