Do you feel it’s incorrect to go back and forth using the roller jig? Is that why you only go one direction? Thanks

@@ericerf6837 you only want to push the cutting edge into the grinding surface to cut from front to rear so that as the front gets thinner, it will form a burr that can be seen and felt on the back of the chisel. Once you have raised a burr, then you can go up in grit or move to a strop to finish the edge and remove the burr

Some people go back and forth when using a stone but on the scary system it is likely that you tear the paper as you push the cutting edge forward. For me, I always draw back (including on the stone)and leave the burr intact until the end. The reason for this is as you go through the grits the bit of the burr holding it onto the edge gets thinner and thinner, making it easier and cleaner to remove on the strop as the last part of the process.
