I know I'm almost 4 years late to comment here, but I just came back to RDR recently and decided to finally finish it to 100% completion. I just want to say, video guides of this type really NEED to be appreciated and acknowledged every single time just for the simplicity of them. No stupid intro, no time wasting monoluge. Straight to the point, direct and simple instructions. It's such a basic thing and yet so many guide tutorials out there seem to get it very wrong, trying to milk out 10 minutes from the most simple tutorial. Thank you so much for being nice, brief and straight to the point. Great tutorial!
Same here. I beat story mode when RDR2 came out and have recently returned to the game to finish at 100%. I have only had to look up these challenges a couple times to help me accomplish my goal but they are very appreciated and can save hours of frustration
The lancaster holds 14 rounds before a reload, if you only have 14 rounds, you can go into & out of deadeye without it counting as a reload. What I do is just use 14 high velocity rounds and can use deadeye all I want. I get this challenge done way before getting to the epilogue, that's for sure. This method is far more time consuming. I usually can knock out challenges 6 (sniper kill from 660ft), 7 (7 headshots in a row) & this one in a single assault on Hanging Dog Ranch...
@@DietCoke88 Did you even actually read what I said Apu? If you only have 14 rounds of high velocity in the lancaster, there is nothing to reload when re-entering dead-eye so it does not count as a reload. I've done this challenge that way on no less than 3 play-throughs and I can prove it. Maybe verify something yourself before accusing someone of lying. Thank you come again.

Even easier way to do this: Go to Valentine (ranch area) and shoot random people's revolvers off the hip. Approach someone from behind and don't let him see you, then shoot the gun on a holster few meters away, run or ride outside town, come back and do it again. Took minute or 2.
@wobbly nostrils When i was doing this challenge i just figured out i shoot the revolver on a holster and it worked. Im glad that i didn't watch any guide videos before i did the challenge. People make this challenge more complicated than it really is. I was very surprised how many players had problems with this. Top 3 easiest/fastest challenges. And Valentine was just an example where you can do it. I did it there to a same guy who leaned to the fence.

You do not have the rolling block rifle, and you can't use the rolling block rifle, it needs reloaded after every shot. You need a scoped Lancaster, or Litchfield.

He is NOT using a rolling block, it reloads after each shot, but you can use a long scoped lancaster or litchfeild which does work at hanging dog ranch on the 2 guards out front.
For everyone who hasn't access to this area yet. I did it in West Elizabeth. In the North West at the river Little Creek. There are also guards at the Hanging Dog Ranch
Just use the varmint rifle with a scope and go to hanging dog ranch. Only shot the guys with the rifles or shotguns in the arm and they will drop. Won't work for pistols. No other method will work for me not even poison arrows. Got it less than a minute.
I tied using the Rolling Block but I found that hiding behind the rock and aiming with the Lancaster was much easier. Everytime I used the rolling block it reloaded. I was not in dead eye either
You are correct with not using dead eye and riding away to the point on map you show, to reset npc. Do not use dead eye ! Use a scoped lancaster with high velocity ammo and do not put rifle away or change weopns ! Do not use the freakin rolling block lol...use revolver to shoot hats off as well, not shotgun 😂
I recommend using a varmint rifle as well if you're having difficulty NOT killing them, you get the full disarm effect with no risk of death, either that or make sure you're on regular ammo, express will kill them if you shoot them in the hand with a lot of rifles
If your having problems with this then grab yourself a Lancaster repeater and 14 split point bullets, then try it. Having just enough rounds to fill your magazine will mean with you can’t auto reload and reset that challenge. That took me like 3 hours of my sanity to figure out.
Wow, that's far better than what I did, lol. I shot up Butcher's Creek twice trying to get this challenge done. But at least I did it (and once you disarm the first few enemies it gets a bit easier). The funniest thing was when I rode away, some dude followed me on a horse. I shot him in the head and then got a wanted message for "Disturbing the piece". WTH?! :D EDIT: Fort Mercer is also great for "Kill 15 enemies with a long-barrelled sidearm" and the "Stealth Bow Kill" challenge. There's one guy up on the wall who always looks to the entrance. Sneak up outside from the other side, if you still can see his head you should be close enough. Activate Dead Eye for easier kill, and shoot. Run away, let the enemy respawn, and continue.
Brilliant! If you don't want to wait to get to New Austin to do this challenge, you can apply this very same tactic at Hanging Dog Ranch (The O'Driscoll Hideout), north of Strawberry. Just shoot the guard on the right at the front of the ranch in the hand and repeat the process 3 times. Worked well.
You, sir, are a true gentleman. I had spent days trying to do this stupid challenge and watched other videos on how to do it, but none of them seemed to work because _something_ would always reset my disarms and I was getting really frustrated lol. So, I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos and the enormous help you've been in passing a bunch of shit I couldn't have done by myself lmao 😅
I've completed this challenge! For those of you also struggling I figured out why I was in the first place: when you're doing this guy's method, make sure you're using the Carcano rifle, NOT the Rolling Block- Carcano! Apparently every shot taken with the Rolling Block registers that a shot is 'reloaded' after one is fired, and therefore will not count. Thnx for this video, Korg!
Also another tip is that you have to stay on your horse the whole time if you get off and get back on it counts as switching your weapon hope that helps anybody 😊
If anyone is having problems with the hats. Go to a saloon with a poker table. Make sure you save the game right before you try though that way if you fuck up. You can go back and try again. It's that easy
You can do this at Shady Belle too (except when it's your gang camp). On horse from the area near the stone gateposts on the main driveway you can shoot one of the two nearest sentries in the hand then fuck off back up the road until the enemy markers disappear. Rinse and repeat. I use the bolt action rifle. You can't use deadeye and you can't reload or switch weapons while skedaddling and coming back. After you get the third one you can fuck all the others up then go and get the respawning cash and large jewelry bag from the graveyard behind the house next to the river.
I accidentally completed this challenge while trying to completed Weapons Expert 9. I sneaked up on some bounty hunters and shot them with poison arrows; they dropped their weapons and died. I didn't get any stealth kills for the weapons challenge.

You probably got this already but you have to get close enough first to engage them as enemies. If you just rock up to the crossroads, they're not yet red dots on your map
Man. ...I have been trying to get this challenge done and couldn't. But that is right like how someone said in the comments below about they have to be red dots on the map first...Also I found out that if you are able to knock off someone's weapon ... I left and came back but if you try to get the second person weapon to fall out there hand and you miss ....then the challenge Re-sets and you go back to beginning. So you have to knock out the first weapon then leave and come back and continue doing the same thing without missing shots
I managed to do it in 2023 at twin rocks and I used a cattleman with express ammo and just very carefully placed shots on only those carrying revolvers.

I couldn't get the Rolling Block Rifle to work on this challenge, so I used the Varmit Rifle on a O'Driscoll guard by Hanging Dog Rach instead and that worked for me.
Thanks fabio. Was trying this for ages and it just wasn't working. Changed to the Varmint rifle, rode up to the gates, used Deadeye to lock on to all the guards hands at the front & did it first time.

Perfect, I managed to get sharpshooter 9 at Mercer as well, with the carcano and Special Snake Oil. I shot the guards that didn't have hats, then went into deadeye as more enemies that had hats showed up and shot them off. Great vid.

If you want to do this with Arthur, you can go to hanging dog ranch. Also, use a scoped Lancaster repeater (he’s actually using a repeater in the video not a rifle).
Thanks legend. Your method was way easier. I tried doing GTA Videos’s method and it was too much of a stuff around. Having to aim at their arm while they’re trying to shoot you without dead eye then running away constantly without getting caught was too much effort and a pain in the ass.
Don't shoot at the gun! Just shoot his right arm. (The arm on your left) The upper arm/elbow is so easy to shoot and successfully disarms him. I didn't even use Dead Eye at all. Used the Bolt Action Rifle w/ Spilt Point bullets for maximum accuracy. Did it on my first try. So easy. -
Get your ammo down to only 14 bullets, High Velocity or whatever ammo, I'm using the Lancaster as an example, then you can use Dead Eye as many times as you want because there is no more ammo to reload.
I was on high hopes when i was about to finish sharpshooter in less than 1 hour then i got to sharpshooter 8 and it took me 5 hours just to finish sharpshooter 8
I just went to Fort Wallace and did the same exact thing. A little harder but they can't chase you and if you stay behind cover, you can move them around the fence.
What I did was go to an isolated part of the map, like the grizzlies or far western end of new Austin, and find a group of three guys on horseback, lasso them off their horses. Then just use movement to trick the AI’s to move to just the right spot where you can easily get the disarms in a single go with dead eye. Ideally you wanna use a gun with a high rate of fire and low damage like the semi auto pistol or the Mauser. What I did instead of worrying about hitting their hands was go for the gut, this will cause a critical that will make them drop the weapon, stumble around for a good ten feet, then bleed out. And like I said for that approach to work it has to be a single shot from a low powered weapon in a critical strike zone, that obviously isn’t the head.
The deadeye thing is so bs because it's fucking impossible to hit the disarm shots without it and autoaim sets you up for a torso shot or headshot only
For the shoot hats off people go into a saloon and look for the people that have hats and shoot em off by aiming at their hat but make sure it doesnt have the red mark ( if you dont want to lose honor)
Great video thanks, this is the method that worked for me. Couldn't get it to work at first with rolling block rifle - realised this weapon only holds one shot so got scope fitted to bolt action rifle and it worked a treat.
