Sydney Desouza April 2022 I lived the first 50 years of my life in India & the next 35 years in Alpharetta Georgia USA as a Goan Indian American. And even though being a US citizen, my first allegiance is to the US, India occupies a large part of my heart & Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the greatest leader India ever had. A great & sincere democrat with human failings which he was the first to admit. Thank you Sashi for being another hero of mine

Nehru was an international ist unlike the jingoists of the millennium who hybernate with in the bounds of his/her country. Nehru was a person who preached and practiced scientific temper. He laid the foundations for the development of science and technology in india. And many more. A man gifted with a silver tongue wrote his own biology and the glimpses of world history with little references. A real giant, even his shadow will cast eclipse on the so called luminaries of today.

Facts about Nehru do need to reach the Indian mass , specially now when current ruling government huge IT Cell army seems to be busy 24 by 7 spreading malicious lies and distortion of facts about Nehru!!

0:04 the video begins with incorrect fact “In 1940 Nehru led the movement for India’s independence from British rule” . So if that is the case then 1897 slogan of Lokamanya Tilak “Swarajya” (self rule) was fiction ? If Nehru led the movement then what was the purpose of Indian National Congress formed in 1892 by Dadabhoy Naoroji, Ranade et all ? If Nehru led the movement then in 1946 how come Nehru did not get a single vote for PM post and it was Gandhi who overran CWC committee consensus and made Nehru as PM violating agreed upon system of electing PM. In India some of the educated ( may be 20%) are the most ignorant , gullible, clueless people. And these are the first one to comment and their comments reeks of ignorance .

The reason shashi tharoor did not choose a writing career was his middle class family that because they were nor very rich so compel shashi to do a job than to take a full time writing as a career. if he had enough money and choose writing as a career he would cerrtainly without any doubt would become a very great writer not only of india but in the whole world. But his circumtances did not led him choose writing as full time career. But i hope once Shashi left politicians then he should to write until he die.

Even if become PM, if Sonia controls, what's the point. That would be like ruling from behind the grave.

He is not saying how Nehruji got the job of the PM without any support of the Congress Party Members of the time when Patelji was the chosen one, and the fact he was instrumental in degenerating a decent democracy into a dynasty! Emboldened by the Congress Party nepotism and feudalism that was practiced in New Delhi, the trait that spread to the State levels and many more regional dynasties came into existence! A trait that is now plaguing the Indian democracy! Glossing over the positives is one thing, but reality lies else where! Of course, one has to admire the quality of narration by Dr Tharoor! He could make Freddy the frog as the Prince Charming by his narration! Congratulations for that!

Nehru is the most misunderstood of leaders in India and abroad. The congress overglorified him and the bjp demonized him. In reality he was somewhere in between - very mediocre but elitist man who was born with a silver spoon. True, he spent years in jail and wrote excellent accounts of Indian and global history but as statesman he was an utter failure. Contrary to what we are told, he never had a vision for educating the masses of India . Education was never a priority for him as he perhaps believed that Indians can be kep happy by throwing freebies at them. To him , education was not for the poor. It had to be the privilege of the rich. The poor , in his opinion , did not need education. His views on industrial development was also similar. He just wanted some basic capabilities in the country thru technical tie-ups with the Soviets but never really encouraged Indian entrepreneurs to innovate and create wealth. He had to biggest objectives. One was to keep lady Mountbatten happy. And the other was to solve global problems as he believed that he was global leader. Even when nobody cared , he just persisted hanging around the rich and powerful leaders of the world to gain their acceptance. On one side he tied country's economy with lethargic socialism as he believed that socialism was the best model for impoverished indians . However, he himself was completely western and elitist in his tastes. Never really connected with the people of India. Still by the time he died, he made sure his legacy is well established and every city has all key areas named after him . That legacy just carried on untill PV Narasimha Rao turned it on its head and now modi threw threw it to dustbin..where it should belong. But Tharoor's book is well written. I love reading Tharoor even when he falsifies ! Hid writings and speeches are just so infectious .

He can soon sit to write about the Great international child Rahul Nehru Gandhi. Gandhi made Nehru the PM because of his english education and better ENGLISH, the same quality Sashi shares. Nehru invented only a dynasty, & not India. It was Sardar Patel who made India. His action were more for him to be the dictator and undermine all remotely possible threat. As you rightly put he was crowned king of India who did not like the crown but only the power behind. While agreeing Nehru may not responsible for the ascendance of Indira Gandhi., Neither is he responsible for Narandra Modi.
