Wouldn't be a good coach for me. I'd be constantly distracted by his odd Blue Peter presenter "personality", trying to be whiter-than-white. Doesn't seem genuine. It's all I can think every time he talks.

Masterclass indeed. He’s spot on with the aiming being easier with the rest as I seem to pot a lot of difficult balls with it as you are sighting the potting angle straight down the cue.

@stuartchapman7934
@stuartchapman7934 5 месяцев назад
Yep, keeping your elbow high up (to at least the same height above the Table as your cueing hand when the shot is played) is The Best Single Piece of Advice for Rest Play contained in this excellent video. Also select the best side of the rest head to use depending on the shot requirements, your objective should always be to minimize the severity of the angle because you will almost always be striking down through the cueball to a degree on rest play shots . . . also there is a trade off to be considered when using the rest, if you bridge too far away from the cueball then any errors on your final delivery stroke playing the shot and following on through the cueball will be amplified (meaning it becomes more critical to cue through on a straight line) whereas if you position the rest bridge too near to the cueball when playing your shot then you will inevitably play your shot striking down too steeply upon the cueball and this in turn will amplify any unintentional sidespin applied and also curtail the desired natural follow through. It's a bit more complicated than Shaun conveys here in this clip but he's done a very good job of Keeping It Simple here which is crucially important and for those learning how to use the rest his advice will probably yield them positive results quickly without too much additional information to worry about.

That's interesting that most people change their cue action to use the rest - I tend to have a more Andy Hicks style normally, but switch to one that's closer to yours with the rest, three or four long flowing waggles and one last little one, pause, then go. I mean I still miss most of the time, but at least it looks good beforehand...
