British climber Shauna Coxsey’s iron grip has seen her demolish the competition to become IFSC Bouldering World Cup Champion (twice), power up 8b+ outside, join the Red Bull Team, become a BMC ambassador and - incredibly - be awarded an MBE for services to crushing.
But what happens when the queen of British bouldering is faced with a brutal gritstone crack? We teamed her up with Wide Boy Pete Whittaker to find out…

its so awesome to see somebody so good at climbing work at one of their weaknesses just shows you that we all startet at the bottom, also really fun and enjoyable video!

I’m so glad I watched this for a second time I’m still getting used to Sheffield, my home city, being so good for climbing and as I’m newly getting into climbing it’s really cool to recognise every single place they bring up in Sheffield across loads of different videos

Shauna forgetting what she just learned, hesitating, unsure = Me, every time I climb. Shauna trying new things, pushing herself, learning it = my aspirations. I was a little concerned she was going to twist a knee, crack a leg ... but I know she just did well in her first lead climbing competition in years, so nothing bad could have happened.

Somewhat like Shauna I too am watching Pete teach crack climbing technique because of seeing a boulder in a comp - last weekend's IFSC World Cup in Meiringen.

That highlighted such a major gap in a lot of boulderer's skill set it was almost embarrassing to watch. I would love to see more crack climbing in competitions.

Quite common to do it like that in the UK. The belayer secures himself to some kind of anchor point (remember, there are rarely any bolts in the UK), so when the climber falls the belayer will not fall. Makes for more comfortable belaying too.

That hand jamming (5:01) looks sketchy tho, wouldn't one rip their wrist apart if they were to slip and fall?

Not really.....it's hard to describe but basically when you fall out of a crack, especially wide hands like she was in you just slip out. With thinner hands if you slip on your feet you just cut a bit and are hanging on hand jams which are super bomber anyway. Especially not a problem for a world class boulderer that is used to cutting feet on really thin holds anyway.

Guy seems like a huge jerk, trying to introduce her to this thing hes really good at, and immediately goes hard and makes it harder and never gives her any validation. Then like joking with the camera man and not looking at her. I sensed her frustration
