I totally get wanting to appreciate your natural hair color. I stopped dying my hair because I wanted to be able to appreciate my natural hair color before it goes gray and I "have to start coloring it." In more recent years I've considered never coloring my hair and just letting it go gray and appreciating my natural color no matter what it is!
I stopped coloring my hair blond several years ago. It’s totally gray now. I had a lot of gray in my 40’s-50’s before it went solid gray. I’ve never had very dark hair and now it’s darker than I thought it would go. My father is a brunette and if I had stopped coloring it, or never starting, it would have been very dark blond. I loved being blond but I just got tired of coloring it. When you color every 2.5-3.0 weeks, that’s a lot of time saved.
Hair is an important piece of identity! It’s not “just hair”! Cultures across the globe have connections between spirit and hair, status and hair, and even a way to identify things about the individual based on hair! That feeling of wanting to experience your natural hair and take control of that aspect is spiritual, to me at least. I know everyone’s spiritual world is different, but I feel that connection with hair.
Your natural color is so pretty! This length is also very suiting on you. This was one of my favorite lengths when growing out my buzzcut. Happy growing!
I feel you, I cut all my hair off a few years ago and it was so liberating! I have never fully shaved my head but I am tempted to. Love your natural hair color! You rock the pixie 🧚♀
it's such a cool tone you have:) like a true taupe. your older videos of your buzz cut grow out helped me through trichotillomania. it's beautiful to be able to just enjoy seeing growth and progress whether it's with plants or hair and slowly develop patience and self love, like you do:)
I appreciate this talk a lot, I'm in almost an opposite situation, I've been growing out my hair, no dye, heat, fun cuts for 8 years now, it's down to my butt and I'm going to be donating it at the beginning of summer and I'm so excited for it. I've been wanting to shave my head for so long and I'm super excited for trying out different styles and colors.
I went from pixie to side shave and now buzz cut and I’m trying to grow it out to the mullet phase. My hair grows pretty fast, it’s slightly shorter than your 2 month phase without the long back pieces. Thanks for sharing your journey, truly motivating!
I should've kept better track of my hair growth after I shaved it! I had a cancerous mole removed right in the middle of my part and didn't want to keep the giant shaved spot lonely. Discovered how CURLY my hair is- always thought it was wavy, turns out it was ringlets when it started growing out! Yours is so cute right now, if you want to style it more I recommend molding putty or paste to do something different
Oh wow!! Hope you're doing okay now. I looove curly hair, super jealous of it. I get some decent waves so I can't complain too much. Putty or paste is a great idea, I'd love to play around with it, just need to learn how lol 👀

I shaved my head two months and a week ago after a hair dye fail (don't trust any hairdresser y'all 😭 wish i've done it myself instead) and my hair length is about the same as yours. I honestly can't wait to have a long fringe (hopefully soon). It's been wholesome to check up on your hair updates 💚
I totally agree with you, it’s crazy how many of us have never fully enjoyed our own natural color or even know what it looks like! I know exactly what video you mean, the one with the girl talking about her natural hair color and how she heard a woman once say that she never had her own natural color because of dying it all the time and now she was going grey. It hit me too! I also decided to stop messing with my hair after that and now I’m at 6 months growing out my shaved head 😊
I just have to say WOW! Your hair looks so beautiful! I know this is an old video and your hair is alreadly a lot longer, but this lenght really suits you! That said; I came across this video as I had my pixiecut today. Not my first pixie (As I'm the person who cuts a pixie, grows it back out because I think long hair looks better on me, then gets annoyed with the long, dull hair, gets pixie again, and we start all over #eyeroll), but the first one to be a bit too short. Which isn't so bad cause I was this close to a buzzcut and right now I'm not far off. But what you are saying about your natural haircolor, is exactly the reason why I cut mine today. I tried growing the color out, but it took way to long and eventually I dyed it again because I was done with the color difference. I knew I needed a drastic change and so I did. And what you said about the summer; this is exactly what I told my hairdresser; I can't wait to see what the summer does for my original salt and pepper kind of hair.
I completely identify with this. As a black women who grew up in the 80s, we generally used to have our hairs relaxed (permed) early on for manageability. I swam a lot when I was young so my mom was definitely not with the hair doing routine every night either 🤣 While I never shaved my head (ok I did do an undercut once), when I got sick of all the chemicals and dye and whatnot I’d accumulated over the years, I did do a big chop that ended up with the hairs maybe 1-2” long - but they were super duper duperrrrr ➿ like from the roots curly - so it was basically closely cropped. A curly condition which I’d only been able to guess at up to that point because I’d never really seen my natural hair. So I definitely understand and appreciate the joy that comes with seeing the new baby hairs growing in and embracing them in their “original” state before we torture them into submission lol
I think you are just so cute with the short hair! You look beautiful. I'm 58 & colored my hair for years & let mine go gray back right before the pandemic. I love it now & it's just so freeing not always having to color roots etc.
I had no idea what my natural hair was going to be. I’m 52 and shaved my head about 5 months ago. I’m growing it out now and it’s such an interesting process. Lots of silver…. Now to go through the sticky up fluffy stage 😊
I shaved my head the 1st of February of this year.I ruined my hair with all the bleach and box dye I was using.Its already growing out a tiny bit from being down to my scalp.And I have white hair coming in as well and I love that part the best.I won't be coloring my hair anymore,because the chemicals ruined my scalp more than my hair.I also have spots where my hair will never grow back because my scalp was burned so bad from the bleach.I'm going to take photos each month.I found your videos yesterday,and seeing the process you had tells me to have patience lol
We have seen you in so many hair colors and they all look amazing on you. But, your natural color right now with the sun lightened tips? Perfection! I'm graying now and in the grow out and it's not cute! Like, at all.

It also makes you look so pretty fresh and natural it's beautiful color it's almost exactly the same as mine a brown color with blonde bits all throughout I just reshaved mine for the second time lastnight! I can't wait for the first 2-3 months ago by and I'm in a pixie stage although I did shave mine down to 1inch and last time it was almost to the scalp lol
I did this several years ago and grew back my natural hair. It was so freeing. I had gone through a life transformation after therapy and recovering from a sexual assault!
Wow so glad to see this.. Im currently in therapy for the same along with other trauma including recent narc abuse and I have a very strong urge to shave my hair, from my dark dyed dark brown to my natural strawberry blonde.. I'm still itching so much to do it
I’ve always go back and forth with thoughts of shaving my head but my head shape isn’t as conducive for the look as yours. Also, I’m Asian. My hair grows straight out. The shortest I’ve had my hair was a pixie in high school and I remember having to put so much product in to help it lay tf down. You look beautiful!!
I shaved my head last June simply because I always wanted to do it. In the past I'd been scared of what people would think, but at 43 years old I'm at the point of saying 'who cares!' alot. It was awesome, especially swimming, showering, the low maintenance of it all. I'm currently growing it out and it's a lovely salt and pepper colour, which I love. I'm so done with dying my hair...cost wise, maintenance, and health wise my hair kept falling out when I got it colored. I'm right in the awkward phase of the grow out though which is sort of annoying tbh!
Thank you for commenting! I’m 37 & have wanted to know what it felt like to have a shaved head my WHOLE LIFE!! But I’ve always had naysayers insisting that my beauty is not only of the utmost importance, but that it’s basically unattainable with a shaved head! 😳 I think a shaved head is just what the doctor ordered. 🤗
As someone that has buzzed their hair 3 times, please do not raise people's expectations that this will not be a lomg drawn out process. 1 year is a long time, and it won't fully grow out after a year. You will still have very layered hair. If your lucky to have fast growing hair, awesome, but most people this will be a long process that will really test your resilience and confidence.
I'm a woman in my 20s, I shaved my head because I wanted fresh healthy hair. The barber had the trimmer on size 0. But would it have been better if they used a razor in order to get better growth?
ughhhh ive watched this so many times. i buzzed my head with a guard #3 about a month ago and i hateeeee it! I hope things change soon because i cant imagine hating my hair for a whole year :(
I’m at the 2 month mark right now and it just sticks straight up. I wish my bangs were this long after 2 months! But my surgeons did shave my head down to the scalp so I’m growing it from literally nothing
I shave my head with a 1/4" guard on the clippers every month or so...once it gets long enough to get bed head. Would have never thought to vlog about it 😜 I just realized my baby's hair is longer than yours, we've just started sometimes putting in baby barretts to keep her bangs out of her face when we want to show her off.
I´m growing my hair out for the first time and today it has gone 18 Months!!! :-) I have not trimmed once. I will do it when i hit the two years mark(October 7th). These 18 months feels like only 3 months has gone by.:) P.S. I started at 3mm
I can understand the longing for the simplicity. I have a lot of white hair and a few years ago I had quit dying my hair. I liked the freedom of it but I felt so drab.
I shaved my head when I was 16. This was in the early 90’s in a very small town. The only other girl I’d ever seen with a shaved head was Sinead O’Connor. My mom and a few of my other family members cried. I heard this phrase a lot “at least you have a nice shaped head” 🤣. It was just something I always wanted to do, so one day, I did it 😁
If its still apart your heart,than,you should proceed to take care of your self & shave away. It's May & you can have a summer shave,or,you keep going💪👍🤩🤩💙.
I wish I could dye my hair, my hair is black so is hard to put a colour over it. I always wanted brown hair. We also should appreciate our original hair too since we will have grey hair when we age and then probably want to colour it to cover the greys. I feel your hair is growing very slow. Usually two month growth grows fast maybe only happens with kids and guys grows faster since they get there hair cut like twice a month than woman’s hair.
I always find it interesting when people shave their head. I'm not sure if I could ever commit to such a long time frame, luckily my hair hasn't been super damage by dying it constantly like others. Do you plan on dying it again?
I don't plan on dying it for awhile! I at least want to grow it out for a couple of years first. And even then I would just do highlights or something low maintanence.
I actually really hate my natural hair which is why I started dying it. I had blonde hair which I absolutely hated and still hate. I prefer myself with darker hair, I know I look better with darker then lighter (which means pastels are so hard to pull off for myself ;-;). I cut my hair into a pixie because I get adhd with my hair and can’t not do stuff with it which is why I started wearing wigs so I can get that fix without damaging my hair. I’m waiting for it get long enough to red henna dye it (to avoid my scalp because it makes my head really really itchy the past times I’ve done it) so I can dye the hair parts easy and avoid the scalp. I like myself with red hair, it looks good on me so I wear it. Henna is 100% natural and super healthy for your hair which is why I use that now
I’ve been trying to shave my head since I was 8! Lol I was never allowed, and even now my daughter would be heart broken if I shaved it! She loves my pink hair lol
From a boys perspective. I never condition my hair. (Once every 2-3 months and or if I’m feeling spicy that day and mix things up) I’d say every 3 days to wash is accurate but don’t make it a routine. It doesn’t matter much with short hair I’ve been told that you condition the hair. Not your scalp and that’s why I don’t condition And yes first day after shampooing has that fluffy and light feeling which I also don’t like but you get used to it
I had my head shaved 4 months ago due to me having surgery on my elbow and having to be one handed for that time , im able to use my arm again so im growing my hair back , its at the stage where its growing out and up and looks stupid 🙈 cant wait for it to start getting flat 😂
I've never once dyed my hair cuz I I've always loved the color of my hair. I always think about dying it but I've never been able to be that brave.. I'm 28 so I can't imagine myself with different color hair 😅

Just long lol. I don’t want to have to deal with haircuts very often 😂 but my hair is thick so I may have to deal with having it cut to shape it a bit.

I'm at about one month into my grow out. I was in a similar situation with green hair that was fried from beaching and dying and just needed a fresh start. I've never had my natural color so I'm so excited to see what it looks like! I'm also loving the short hair look at the moment
Ahhh so cool that we're on this journey together. When I started dying my hair colours again I joked that when I was over it I would just shave my head again... and that's literally what I had to do lol that stuff would not budge 💀 but I'm glad for it in the end!
