nah fk off this shit was not friendly at all lmao. Control verse he said he had love for all and but he still sees them as competition but here he just straight up called him boy like c'mon lol.
All of a sudden, people trying to downplay the control verse after praising how good it was for hip hop? Now competition is corny? I can't take anyone serious with that kind of take 😂
I see what Shawn tryna say about Control, but I think the issue is that nobody besides a couple of the guys Kendrick mentioned really responded. No one treated Kendrick as the villain he was building himself to be, they praised him. he took the crown and ran.
A couple guys? Like 4 did and then mfs he never even spoke of did too lol. Sean and KRIT addressed it in bars and everybody else addressed it in interviews. It got spoken on in one way or another.
@@moballardful I was specifically speaking about a response by way of a verse, which i think was what was intended to happen. Kendrick was staking a strong claim in rap with that verse, and it’s clearly competitive in nature, but I don’t think he expected to basically not be challenged at the end of the day. Getting four people to rap better and 30 people to mention it in an interview is not the same as making everyone in Kendrick’s generation of rap (attempt to) step their pen to the levels he was talking about. “New niggas just new niggas don’t get involved” and Drake explicitly opted out of involvement.
11:53 You gotta be playing devils advocate with that take. Kendrick’s Control verse was good for Hip Hop so how can it also be corny. Especially coming from a lover of the art form???
NGL Shawn kinda off with the Control take. For Kendrick, the competition was just out of enjoyment for his craft & work. Not to be cliche and bring up Kobe, but he very much was the same way. His competition in the league fueled him to aspire to greater heights. Kendrick enjoyed the challenge and the narrative of competition in the game. You can see the fruits of it in the “Control remix” genre that spawned shortly after. If Drake is offended or bothered, he clearly just doesn’t see his craft in the same way that Kendrick does, and that’s okay.
I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for him to understand competition. For me the control verse pushed everybody not just Kendrick to higher heights.
Shawn talked about how much better big Sean has gotten since 2017 and I’d definitely contribute that to Kendrick creating a narrative that he just merked him on his own song. I think that is a great example of competition where someone shows out and makes everyone else take notice. Also I compete with my friends all the time with a lot of random lol things. Even if they aren’t trying to push me, seeing them doing something that gets them more credit and validation just makes me wanna try harder to “catch up” to them. I think Kendrick killed that control verse and if it comes on shuffle I skip right to his verse and then bounce. I think big Sean even came out and talked about how he rewrote his verse because of how good Kendrick’s verse was and then still didn’t want to drop it legitimately bc of how big of a moment Kendrick was makin
You deadass just lied about him saying he rewrote his verse and for no reason, I done seen it all now ya keep pushing to 💩 on Sean for no reason & we gonna be real as a Kendrick fan his verse wasn’t better than Sean’s or Jay electronica even his own label mate says that anyways that was random claiming he rewrote his verse and didn’t want to put it out. Wow.
did u really just contribute Big Sean’s entire progression to Kendrick instead of his own life experiences & work on his own craft.💀 Yall do an insane amount of D riding man. Sean was getting better every single year even before the Kendrick beef wtf😂😂😂
Kendrick was pointing out every artist who at the time was coming up, a hot topic, or actively popping in the game and saying early into his “mainstream” career, “what y’all are doing is cool, but I’m better than all of y’all in every way. I’m the king of hip hop”. It is competition not conflict. If you were trying to be that then it was a problem for you (Sean, Drake, maybe even Cole, among others) but if not it was friendly and you sang his praise (Mac, Tyler, etc.) Idk why Shawn can’t grasp that though 😂
@@countmusa1074they really aren't. You wanna dominant the opponent and actual real lyrically inclined rappers will do that to prove who is superior. If you don't do either then you won't understand. Wtf you think battle rap is?
@@moballardful bro battle rapping & mainstream rap beef arent anywhere near the same💀 Even in battle rapping you sometimes see mfs get jumped for taking sht too far. Its been like that since the 80s if u gon beef in hip hop uu should be ready to die sht not no sport.
@@moballardful do i need to educate u on how many rappers have died from rapping cause tht sht not a game at all. You say u wanna “make sure your core fans never heard of u, they dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from u” to the wrong person & they gon fucc u up thts just common sense not everybody play that mfs have died for less💀
@@countmusa1074Bro, that's only for gangster rappers. Kendrick, Big Sean, Drake, none of these rap dudes have any gangster affiliations. A rapper with actually worth in his words won't kill over some lyrics.
Kendrick said he did it to make people write lyrics again to raise the bar. Kendrick does feel that way. Kendrick said he wanted to be the best. Just like any sport….. you probably wouldnt say two basketball teams are beefing though. You might as well hate on battle rap Shawn. It wasn’t beef lol it was friendly competition. Shawn is so annoying damn. Drake got Butt hurt, but look at how Mac and Tyler took it. They all loved it. Drake was just mad he wasn’t the only top dog now and he knew he couldn’t match lyrically. Drake is a borderline narcissist and honestly I see why Shawn agrees with drake.
Pusha too, the Nosetalgia verse came after Control and he told Kendrick it was all good cause he knew the intention behind it. Other dudes just got their feelings hurt tho lol
@@richerprior5961 Depends on what ur cultural surroundings i guess, because most rap fans i know in actual real life could care less about beef & just wanna listen to the music.
@@richerprior5961 I mean that would still apply though. Most rap fans i know irl dont could care less about competition & just wanna hear good albums & music.
Competition is one of the pillars of hip hop. We lose that, we lose it. Kendrick knows this and at that point everything was too friendly. What’s the point in sharpening a blade with no one to duel?
It served it's purpose. Drake deflected it hard because he knew he couldn't get at him lyrically. Kendrick smoked everybody he named and still is to this day.
It’s not meant to be listened to forever, Kendrick even said he’s done with control verses because he doesn’t want to be the best anymore. He did it because he wanted people to care about the art again.
Control would have been a bigger moment if Sean didn’t blocked that shit until it cooled down. Control made cornballs rap again and try to bring their A game. Steal sharpens steal is a philosophy folks grew up with. Your generation lowering the bar is the reason mainstream rap ain’t hitting anymore. Control was an SOS for hip hop that y’all didn’t get.
Shawn has been E-thugging since he started to feel ashamed for fan girling over frank ocean on camera.. Ill bet 10k that he hasnt ran a fade in 10 years
I’m not surprised Shawn has tht perspective on competition being the top tier hater he is. Personally I ain’t gotta have a real issue to compete with you and talk shit. It’s certain lines I’m not gonna cross. But to compete don’t mean I gotta hate you or have a real issue.
That whole back part of element is aimed at Drake. Passive aggressive shit only works for your fans, it’s all in your eyes, you tell lies. Tried to lift up the artist, but there’s a difference between black artists and wack artists. Kendrick collabed with Drake on Poetic justice.
This woulda been insteresting years ago, kendrick just isn’t that guy anymore. Kinda funny to hear him talk some shit but like who really cares about this kinda shit anymore? Maybe it’s just me idk
@@hutsin7884big Sean not cringe lol, at least not any more really. Kendrick may beat him but Sean would put up a damn good fight not tuck his tail between his legs and run
I tried relistening to Mr. Morale and got to "My Auntie is a man now" and just couldnt take the album serious no more I respect the attempt at solidarity but that sucked ass.
@@Alief.Prophet i thought it was dumb that u discredited the whole album bru. or at least that’s how i took ur comment. but ur making me question like, why would that be kendrick’s approach? he’s been known for being very precise with everything he does so why is (this whole album tbh) so fucking weird? presentation is really important
@@ValentineEden dropping the slur like 12-15 times wasn't necessary at all to being an ally tho. Like that was deadass uncalled for. And "my Auntie is a man now" just honestly sounds like a weird way to describe transitioning but I guess😭😭😭😭 I just found more people making jokes with that statement than cheering it on
