@@TheProdigyB3AST He's very much wrong in my opinion. Durk doesnt have the lyricism, projects, skills as a producer, and especially feature runs that Cole has had and also hasnt had enough time to establish his legacy as much as Cole has
I feel like I enjoy Nicki’s pop shit way more than her rap shit. Aside from her Monster verse, she hasn’t really had any stand out rap performances in my opinion.
@@mickey10jb80yeah that’s why when she first came out the gate she really showed tf outta her skill with the pure rap mixtapes but yeah mainstream did get poppy
Also ngl, Nas verse on that Bieber cut was still better than 80% of the pop collabs in recent years. I still wake up in a sweat over that Kendrick/Taylor Swift shit
Bro really said “KOD is better than Scorpion as an album” and “The Off Season is better than CLB”, but then ALSO SAID “You don’t think Durk is better than Cole? Go die.” NIGGA WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?! The Cole hate is so crazy that it literally doesn’t make any sense.
I feel like Biggie and Pac making weird features had they lived is a moot point because their estates have put out the weirdest ass posthumous material for two decades and people still love them.
J Cole fans have propelled Cole to be this top 10 rapper when he is nowhere near that caliber at this point in time. He’s gotten way better rapping wise in the last few years but his catalogue is not that substantial to be saying he’s top 5 or top 10. It’s MADNESS.
@@Ijbvfknnn I don’t think Cole has dropped an album on par with any of Nas, Em’s, or Pac’s best. I have shifted my opinion a bit on this just because Cole’s improvement to last few years is definitely something to commend, but as an album guy I’m just not putting Cole there.
@@artheals8869 I would agree with that. Forrest hills drive is a classic album though, and nas and pac have a lot of mid music, I still 100% think that.
If Cole just would stop going over his own fucking beats and included a more interesting musical palette, I’d listen to his music past the first listen more
Huge argument people will make tho is that he's tarnished what he once was with his excessive corniness, noone doubts his impact, but Em seriously doesn't know how to "bury the hatchet" with non-lyricism focused rap artists and culture.
@@Cohen- corny or not tho, he’s both one of the best selling and most technical rappers of all time, pretty much every rapper has him in their top 5. Genuinely showed how technical tap could have mainstream appeal and go #1
@@Cohen- Regardless whenever he does something the impact is crazy. When he dropped kamikaze which I wasn't a fan of. He took over hip hop for like 3 months. And that was way into his 40s. So the impact which was a criteria is crazy still to this day
@@brandonayong5823 I'd argue the reason it appeared he "took off" was because the controversy it stirred, and creating controversy isn't something I'd necessarily link to "taking over" so to speak. It's fair to see the impact it might have but it's also important to understand why it was being spread so much. I'd argue music to be murdered by is a better example to prove your point
@@Cohen- Well I actually think music to be murdered by is a much better record than kamikaze but it didn't really get attention like that which is a shame. I think it's his best album in 10 years
Bro u could say the same thing he said about cole about Kendrick. Sure there’s songs on tpab that I wouldn’t play at a party or in the car but that does not justify drake being ranked higher than him
As a lyricist, absolutely, without question in the top 5, but the criteria on this list included commercial success etc. DOOM was always more of a ’those who know, know’ artist. One of the goats for sure though.
@@lordbauer5983 maybe not his absolute catchiest, even though it is definitely up there, but the way the beat gradually changes and grows over the track is imo a lot more adventurous and fleshed out than the vast majority of his beats and in terms of drake lyrics about women, it's one of the few outside his most straightforward love songs that doesn't feel simpy, whiny, condescending or passive aggressive at all, i also think the samples were utilized way more effectively than on for instance in my feelings (which is still great but feels way more chill and way less ambitious)
Kendrick does not have a bad album, all of them are bangers(yes with mmatbs yall sleeping on it cus yall havent heard kendrick for 5 years so you expected some life changing shit), i dont see why you cant place him at 2. Especially with tpab which might be the best album ever
@@Stinkfly300 And Drake puts out every piece of trash song him and his ghost writers write up for him. It's about quality, not quantity. I'd rather wait for an artistic, deep, curated record full of heart and soul than whatever Drake is doing now.
@@waketp420 no it’s about both quality and quantity. Key word: BOTH which Kendrick lacks. Quality is better then quantity for sure but quantity matters a lot and Drake is obviously worse then Kendrick. Don’t know why you stated that like it wasn’t common knowledge
I feel like the best kind of song is deep, but it also is sonically good enough to just enjoy without really taking it all in. Like if a song can bump, but also if you want you can delve deeper and really pull back the layers and get into what the track is saying, that’s what makes an incredible song. And by depth I don’t always mean like serious, MF DOOM has a lot of lyrical depth but I can also just vibe to his music if I want. Hey Ya to me is a great example where it works as a pop song, but it’s also super interesting lyrically and with its themes. I think Middle Child is a great example of Cole doing both, and it’s a really unique topic for a song. That’s just my general opinion
Are rap songs supposed to be played at family events? The more pop rnb you go the more you can play them at family events. But when we're talking display of rap then you're prob not playing that with grandma bro. Sing about me, 4 your eyez only losing to one dance which isn't even a rap song is wild Shawn 🙌.
Tell me one artist that impacted the west coast more than Ice Cube. Ice Cube literally put west coast hip-hop on the map; without his contributions to NWA, Ruthless records and Death Row records wouldn't even exist because folks wouldn't have paid attention to NWA in the mainstream. 50 Cent being put over Ice Cube is kinda disrespectful, to be real. You can make the argument that 50 Cent and Ice Cube are tied for hits, but Ice Cube beats him in every other category.
Shawn confuses me, he says he likes J.Cole and then shits on him the next sentence….J.Cole definitely deserves to be on the list, now whether he’s 15 is debatable, but C’mon now Shawn and you did a best rapper list and put Cole in ya list
@@robintetrisfax man I like Cole but he always got the same monotone flow, and listening to his songs is forgettable. It’s why people listened to the off season and then forgot about it 😂
Why Sean acting like he didn’t use to eat off that j Cole McDonald’s 1 dollar menu back in the days I remember long time fan 😂😂men trying to gaslight us with the slander
its crazy how kanye literally doesn't have a bad album after 2 decades, scratch that, up until Ye had dropped like ten classics in a row and yet people still leave him off top 5s/10s for rapping cause oh he doesnt bar up. bro kanye is literally just as good a rapper as jayz. the man has hella verses with hella bars but people act like he goes full carti on the mic. thats cap. even tlop which isnt a very rap heavy album has no more parties and saint pablo.
@@mickey10jb80 with great rappers like jayz people always struggle to be a feature with him on songs bec jay overshines them but ye made a whole collab album and his present way as strong as jayz. as a rapper kanye really wasnt way worse then jay. also ye has top 2 delivery after pac in my book
@@bruh1519 by the time they made that collab album Jay was out of his prime. I believe Jays best rapping years were late 90s and early 2000s. Like 96-03. I think after that he started to rely more on features and his rapping declined. I think if you compare prime Jays rapping to prime Kanye, there is no question who is actually a better rapper
@@bruh1519 my point is prime JayZ vs prime Kanye, JayZ is the better rapper. JayZ last album had more important topics and substance than his in the past but I'm talking rapping ability. That wasn't his prime. Not saying it was bad but I'm speaking of both rappers in their prime.
Greatness pac discog ye influence ye impact eminem flow biggie lyrics jayz punchlines lil wayne storytelling kendrick versatile ye delivery pac so best rapper imo is jayz but best artist def kanye west (if u say to me that he has writest think about making beats and writing most of ur raps for ur album is way harder then writing raps) also he always makes new sounds so he needs to come up with new ideas and sounds people never heard of. he is not making the same gansta rap album like the half of the people on the list. when it comes to making albums and u have to bet all ur money for the album to be good u are choosing ye
But who made better music? That’s what it comes down to really. You can be a better “rapper” lyrically, at the end of the day it doesn’t make the music better unless you understand this
Cole definitely better than pusha T and scarface when it comes to impact and influence. Half these rappers that aren’t mumble rap have taken from jcole’s book
Nah you gotta be young. I’m wit you on pusha t but please do your googles on FACE🙌🏾I mean that with all due respect he’s dropped classics for 4 decades both solo and with the geto boys. In 91 he changed the ways cats rapped sorta like Nas did.
I genuinely believe In My Feelings was only big because of the tik tok dance. Every time that song comes on people associate it with the dance, even now. That song is the definition of mid. P.s I’m listening to KOD over I’m Upset EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week
Jay at #1 is one of those things where you can defend it and it makes sense and probably objectively "correct" but actually doing it and admitting it feels wrong somehow.
Rev Run from Run dmc being on this list as a solo artist would be alright I guess.. until I realized they left out both prodigy and havoc from Mobb Deep. GTFOH.
Where my man Big L at for sure the best rapper of all time. Half-A-Mil, Magnolia Slim, Little Simz, Guru, Willie D also deserve being on this list. Cole, 50 and Snoop being on this list at all is wild imo. No spanish rappers Canserbero is probably the best rapper of all time along with Lil Supa.
People love using longevity when it’s convenient to push their fav rapper. Em was a goat at his peek (easy top 5) but after all the hot ass he’s dropped, there’s no fucking way.
Missy is not annihilating Nicki Minaj cmon now. I was entering high school as she was starting to pop with her debut coming during my sophomore year. She was a straight force of nature. Mind you I couldn’t stand a majority of her music but her shidd was ringing off like crazy.
Ngl snoop has got to be one of the most overrated rappers. He was pretty good in his heyday but man that man hasn't tried for like 25 years definitely effects how I see him, sure his baseline not trying is still pretty decent but like it's definitely something I'd say keeps them from being ranked too highly
Kanye has too many writers think about it that shows he doesn't even really believe in himself I can't listen or respect a rapper that can't write his own music
@@jiemelgould8664 when working on large albums yes it would make sense that he would have writers versus like through the wire Jesus Lord Saint Pablo no more parties in LA gorgeous new slaves were all written by him and those are considered his top verses
@roguee!BLU A rapper with writers is trash he will never be top 5 and you must be young to defend him real rapper will tell you the same .. When you A rapper your post to try to be the best it like a sport your post to compete and be creative and as a fan your post to hear there thoughts there mind not another man's that's no you rap that's someone else's thoughts coming out of your mouth that a fraud to the art a will never be respected as a real Mc I don't understand how u don't understand that . If that's your favorite rapper you should wanna hear how witty and creative they can get not someone else's you should listen to who wrote it then in that case
