I'm proud of my guitar solo in this song. The session was late at night and I was called at the last minute. So the solo was very spontaneous. Great song, great artist.
aren't we lucky to have youtube and the opportunity to see such talent? no, she will never gain mainstream attention or get airplay because they play the crap that sells. but she will make to my program list -- i'm a programmer of women's music for a community radio station. thanks shawn for the beauty of your creativity.
I could hear this song a hundred times each day, and each day I hear her sing it, I have to pull over if I'm driving, it's just one of those special songs.
I once loved someone as much as it says in this song. The love was so exquisite that it hurt. He's gone but the love remains. The song says it all. ♥️ to you, Jimmy.
I just saw Shawn perform in a very small Vermont theater in front of less than 200 people on a cold March night. What a fabulously pure voice! She sang/played an incredible adaptation of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" that revealed just another great talent of this fine artist. A tremendous evening with a wonderful musician!
Simplicity always struck me in awe....and this is how I describe how my feelings gotten into everytime I listen to Shawn Colvin....she turns every song, every melody into a poignant, heavenly sonnet of passion and life....whewww....
She reminds me of Eva Cassidy. That phenomenal voice that was here only for a short season. Some people can sing and their voice can touch you deeply. She has that gift. Thanks for the post.
OMG!! I absolutely LOVE her voice!! I fell in love with her voice in 1992. I’ve had so much heartache in my life.So much. My partner took her life 2 years ago and I’m struggling so much to find some semblance of sanity since that horrific night. 1-18-18. Yes, I’m asking for all the prayers that I can get. Please, PLEASE pray for the one’s that are left behind from the ABSOLUTE HORROR of suicide. So, my friends..PLEASE, LISTEN and WATCH for the signs of someone you love when they speak of suicide! No matter how much that ‘we’ think “Oh they would NEVER EVER do that...oh YES it only takes ONE moment in their troubled mind...just ONE TINY MOMENT....and they are gone.
Omg this was one of my favorite songs by Shawn next to "Sunny Came Home".....this song brings me back to my teenage years of the 1990's. It's a sad song.❤🥰
an angel in the flesh, from the start - shawn colvin knows precisely and exactly what to say and how to say it in the most hauntingly beautiful and straight-forward way imaginable - and absolute gem, under-appreciate but so loved by so many of us...
The song that started it for me with shawn colvin in 1992 and at the same time mary chapin-carpenter who is shawns friend too i discovered these talented ladies on the radio station virgin 1215 in the early nineties both theses ladies singer songwriters just so underated i love them both
@FlyingGuySFO i agree. when you can make millions off the articulate wordings of "i'm hot cause i'm fly, you ain't cause you not..." , one can't expect many REAL musicians to get the recognition they deserve.
Tidbit~ The members of Devonsquare were in a Greenwich Village apartment prior to 1984, and Shawn sang this. They asked if they could record it, and Shawn gave her blessing. So, Devonsquare released this long before Shawn released it on an Lp. Such a beautiful song. Thanks Shawn for sharing such a gift!
Always get goosebumps listening to this song. Watching NCIS episodes and listening to Shawn Colvin tracks gave me a feeling of nostalgia and a breath of fresh air. Feeling of innocence and wonderful moments I missed out growing up during my college days. Sempre fi...
I loved (and still love) her music. Got to see her in the 90's. I SO miss the singer/songwriters who don't get the airplay today. Such talent. And such an ability to touch the heart.
I really think she is so unde rated that;s true. She reminds me of Eva Kennedy ... to quite to Eva's level, but ... man she is fabulous. Awesome ... song thanks for the post.
Michael Jackson she's out of my life /George Michael turn A Different Corner/Shawn Colvin - I Don't Know Why/the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my years this is a tribute to my granddaughter/she died at 8 months/just after Christmas this year2024. may she rest in peace
@FlyingGuySFO yes, someone who gets the big picture. Music to most people is just background noise or party music, but to people who rely on music throughtout their lives, popular music just does not cut it, most of it is garbage.
I remember this on tape. It was one artist on one side and another well known on the other! Gosh I’m talking about at least 1991! I really think it might have been from a chick Fila happy meal or a random free cassette from sound shop. All I know is I loved it back then and still do! I can NOT REMEMBER the the more famous artist on the other side of the cassette! Enough said! She’s awesome!
Although this song was written by Colvin, it was Alison Krauss who was the original. Both versions were released in 1992 but Krauss was released in February while Colvin in October.
