Ironically that's pretty much how psychics work. Feed random info to a large audience until it resonates with someone in the crowd and boom your have your next victim.

The actor that played Woody was also in Monk (I think as the Mayor or something). Then again, knowing Woody, it’s possible the two are the same and he had to create a new identity
I really do love this show, but they make a lot of arrests without any evidence except for the word of a psychic. Lol. In this one they had literally nothing to go by. Sure they could have gotten all they needed with Shawn's help. But, at the time they arrested this guy, that didn't have anything!! Lol.
To be fair, they didn't actually charge him with anything at this point. They only took him into custody. Even if charges would be unsustainable based on what they had at that exact moment, they had an (alleged) murder weapon that could be tied to the suspect (as well as evidence of alleged fraud they could readily obtain). Detaining him while they tested if it was the murder weapon isn't likely to cause them any problems. Even if a lawyer tried to raise a stink over it, they'd just say they were detaining him for questioning while they waited on the test result. Assuming it came back positive, a judge wouldn't care.
@@zz1000zz those were still based on the word of a "psychic". The murder weapon was a cloth. Yet to be tested not a gun or a knife. Even if the death was ruled a murder the cloth still couldn't be directly tied to the "suspect" because every lodge brother had potential access to that cloth even if trace of poison was found. And the fact that they all were aware of the substance that was mentioned being poisonous in certain doses, knowledge and use of said substance would be decently common knowledge at lease among the lodge brothers. In regards to the "fraud" which also hasn't been proven outside of shawn and gus's knowledge, the lodge is not a state or federal entity but a private one. There for lodge representatives must first come forth and charge him with fraud he can not be forced to face those charges from a 3rd party even if it is the arresting officer/department making those claims. What judge, police chief, and even supervising officer wouldn't be mad. They just ruined any chance of a real case if the alleged "suspect" has a good lawyer. all that said good things this is JUST a tv show we all get to enjoy haha
@@marinchihwai I'm afraid you're completely wrong about the fraud issue. The police can arrest a person who engages in criminal fraud with or without the victims' consent or cooperation. That's true of any crime. Victim consent/cooperation is never necessary to bring charges (aside from it possibly being necessary to make a case). But again, it doesn't matter if their action was premature. Taking the guy into custody early would not negatively impact their ability to bring charges against him. There's no penalty or consequence to doing it, aside from maybe giving him grounds for a lawsuit. But if he's guilty, that's not going to matter. The important thing is even if they didn't have the legal right to take him into custody at that point, no evidence is going to be thrown out and nobody is going to be sanctioned over it.

If the victim doesn't choose to press charges yet as officers they arrested and charged them? Haha can they do it yes duh how easy would it to beat that case... EXTREMELY lol. Any good defense lawyer( not great and even decent) eats so easy lol. Court is a game of what can you prove how how can you prove it and are you TECHNICALLY correct based off the specific charges you state, the specific laws you cite and how tou claim these laws to have been broken. Now if you want to play a game you can name a state, list your charges and cite laws being broken according to this video clip. And I'll list in "suspects" defense a similar set up but exonerating him of said crimes he's being accused....just for fun haha...sense I'm wrong lol
@@marinchihwai the phrase "press charges" like you use has no legal meaning. All that means is the victim wants it to happen. They have no actual say in the matter. The issue is entirely up to the police/lawyers. Saying a defense attorney might be able to beat the charges without the victim's cooperation is pointless. That might be true, but it has nothing to do with what you said about the cops in this situation. Cops don't have to wait to find out if victims will cooperate or not. In fact, arresting someone is often a tool used to gain further cooperation. The issue here is the cops arrested the guy based on Shawn's words. That's true. It's just not really a problem since needing to prove a case comes well after making an arrest. Maybe this guy could beat the charges, maybe not. The cops arresting him when they did would have (negative) effect on their chances of a conviction.
