The difference is Kemp was the exception, not the rule. He was an 18ppg guy durring his prime. There's a long list of guys today just as athletic as Kemp, they just have more skill.

If anything players lack a lot of fundamentals these days, especially big men. Also his PPG wasn't a reflection of his ability. The system George Karl ran on those Sonics teams was really distributed attack, they had a lot of double digit scorers on the roster and did a lot of run and gun rather than pounding it into the paint. Both he and Payton averaged 18-20 ppg in that system. Once Karl left you'll notice Payton's shot attempts and PPG went up, as well as minutes.

Guys act like the 80s/90s were 100 years ago. Lmao it's was 20-30 years ago. These basketballer players are the same athletes. The rule chamges truly watered down the defense in basketball. You can't even breathe today without getting a tech. Jordan terrorized tough Zones in the 80s and averaged 37 PPG on 53% shooting. People really think he couldn't average 45-50 a night with almost no contact nowadays. The 90s was the greatest era of basketball.
