Jessica has spoken to SEAL groups and gatherings, and has worked to raise money for the SEAL widows and orphans charities. She now has 2 children I believe. My older brother was career Navy and spent many years as a SEAL including 2 tours in Viet Nam. I had the honor and good fortune of meeting and getting close to many of them. They are the finest kind.

Wow. Hearing it from her is so powerful. I can't even imagine the physical and mental stress she expirenced. As for the NAVY SEALS, GOD bless them. Absolutely devastating on a personal level for her. Yet, another commenter said that she uses her terrifying experience to raise money for SEAL families who lost their hero husband's, father's, etc. That takes strength and a willingness to face her nightmare over and over again for the betterment of others.

I was one of the many who suggested you watch the story from Jessica's point of view because we knew you'd be touched by the horror she went through and the bravery she displayed. Amazing commentary and thoughts, guys, as always. As someone from a military family that includes Seals and Green Berets, I will always love how unassuming they are: Usually shorter, like 5’8”/5’9”, not jacked at all (but stronger than you can imagine!) and kind, and humble, and not bragging about their elite jobs, but with an obvious “thrill seeker/drive to win” attitude that it all just makes sense why THEY are the ones that make it, and can pull off the impossible 🙂

Justin K. Sheffield was a leader of this squad. He's since retired and written a couple books about his service. I believe the US military doesn't even acknowledge the existance of Seal Team 6. The even numbered squads are based in Virginia, the odd numbered squads from California. They skydived in from 20,000 feet and walked the final few miles to the camp. Using night vision they were able to get very close to the kidnappers. The Seals pointed their infared lasers at the kidnappers. Without night vision the kidnappers never even saw the multiple lasers that targeted them.

There is a 1:30:00-1:45:00 min video podcast with her and the Seals team Commander. It is a very detailed account of the months of her being captive including the fact that we were tracking her and training for this rescue mission for months before it happened. One point that came out was that she does not speak anymore to the director who was held captive with her. During their captivity he admitted to Jessica that he was warned that this was going to happen and even after showing up to their transportation and seeing there was a new driver and different people on the security detail he still insisted that they get in the automobile. She basically said what the hell gave him the right to play roulette with her life.

Bandits not pirates .. there IS a difference. The word “pirate” originates in the 1300s from the Latin word pirata meaning “sea robber” and was also a Latin synonym for the word “peril.” In Greek, the word came from peirates, meaning “one who attacks.” - The word bandit comes from the Italian bandito, "outlaw," from the Vulgar Latin bannire, "to proclaim or proscribe," by way of a Germanic root that's shared by ban. Definitions of bandit. noun. an armed thief who is (usually) a member of a band. synonyms: brigand. It always amuses me when I hear "American accent". There are several videos of American accents .. some or so different that it is like they are speaking a different language. I remember my roommate was being made fun of for his Alabama accent. I looked at him in surprise .. and remarked "what accent?" .. being from Arkansas. :)

There are many safe places in certain countries in Africa. Unfortunately, there are a lot of regional wars. You need to choose wisely when traveling there but it is an amazing continent. I lived in West Africa two years and have traveled in Morocco many times. I never felt unsafe in Morocco, as it is there are military police and tourist police everywhere. Just like in the U.S. and other countries, you need to know your surroundings and find out from the locals the areas to stay away from. As for your comment about Obama, of course he did something. The commander in chief is responsible for approving military intervention in foreign countries. He approved the raid that killed Obama. Some presidents may not have made that decision based on the lack of proof that Bin Laden was in Pakistan. Let’s not denigrate the decision making of an intelligent, coherent man who had the right people in his cabinet to navigate these tricky political steps.
