FILM DESCRIPTION:
Housewife and mother Ruth Patchett (Roseanne Barr), an overweight and unkempt woman, can seem to do nothing to make her husband, Bob (Ed Begley Jr.), happy. When he becomes embroiled in an affair with romance novelist Mary Fisher (Meryl Streep), Patchett does all she can to ignore it until Bob finally leaves her for Fisher. Bent on revenge, Patchett begins an intricate undertaking that will lead to the destruction of all that Bob holds dear -- and she also has plans for Fisher while she's at it.

I though the same...18 month for example in Spain If you steal something greater than 500 euros, up to 1,500 euros something like that, they give you 18 months, if you steal amounts that exceed 5, 10, or 20 thousand, they can give you years, many years, it's very rare, but I like that someone take into account.

Earlier the lawyer said Bob was looking at a minimum of two, possibly five years imprisonment as well as a fine of $250,000. In spite of the judge being tough, she actually was unbiased and was lenient on Bob. He did get the full fine though.

This is every ex wife's fantasy. To bury her husband & get a cold hard judge to throw the book at him. Love when he is carted off suddenly he wants his wifes help. I also love that she dropped their kids at his lovers house bc mary suddenly wasnt so desirable losing it on his kids. Usually the wife is stuck being a single mom but she was like nope let u & ur lover take care of them. Love it. Dont get mad get even !

Ruth did have the interview with the widow who did the bookkeeping for her husband's restaurant. She was given the right job at the right time.

Supposedly the script did have something of that nature, but decided it would have been too short a time for a woman who sought the services of Vesta Rose to end up on the bench. As such, they figured it made more sense to have someone like the bookkeeping widow end up as the court clerk and make sure an unbiased judge presided over the case.

Originally he was looking at 200,000-300,000 dollars and 2-5 years in prison. He still got off reasonably easy at 250,000 dollars and only 18 months.

@@ellenekanem His lawyer mentioned it a scene or two earlier after he was arrested at the party. That's when the whole 'Judge Phillips' plan came up, along with the plan to pass the whole thing up to a computer virus, and where Mary found out that he's been stealing money from her because the largest amount of money transferred into his account was from out of her account. As she put it "Computers don't have Swiss bank accounts Bob!" That's what drove her to ultimately break up with him and fire him as her accountant.

The funny thing is Bob still couldn’t put together that she was behind it. Even when she had taken all four of his assets he still thought so little of her that he couldn’t fathom she was capable of all of this. Because from where I sit, her clothes and the look on her face said it all.
