at 10:35, Yess! Finally! Someone, excuse me, you managed to grasp the sensory part of the bubble! I am not alone on this anymore :) It spins to the left, so if you switch it off you veer to the right for a few minutes

THANKS for this!!!! Here's my take (and I'm glad to put it here so hardcore Whovians can argue it): This episode breaks two unwritten rules of the show regarding prejudice/racism. The first rule, established in Classic and continuing in Nu, is that collective racism/prejudice must be overcome for our planet to survive. The second rule, established in Nu, is that individual prejudice is something to be frowned on but will be overcome one day. (TEARING SOUND AS RTD RIPS UP THOSE RULES :) ) WOW....Um, gee.... Who is RTD going after? Anti-immigration movements in Europe? The Right worldwide, including in America? The Doctor Who anti-woke crowd? Everyone? Although the Jordan Peele/"Black Mirror" crowd will not be losing sleep over this, I deeply appreciate RTD's willingness to put up a very big finger at people who don't like his direction. This is very different from his first, more subtle DW take. There will be a lot of criticism of Ncuti crying *again.* But from the point of view of this American, this cry is more out of the tradition of 19th-century Frederick Douglass than a 20th-century British-created Time Lord, recreated in this century to great impact.

Yeah I see 👀 but don't why are we yeah mmm deep thought 💭 We all think 🤔 far too much about things we do including me , I crossed the Rubicon or did I what is a Rubicon I know or do I I need not correcting . Knowledge is superior than blatant information gathering , we think we need more information but in truth we Don't . One can't put 100 primates in a room full of Typewriters ⌨️ and expect a literary masterpiece . if we don't All cut back on social Media I feel the planet will be in a whole lot of trouble I know social media is but 1 problem the planet is going through . Don't worry who is woke or not woke gay or not gay , People are Sleep 😴 walking through life . A Mobile 📱 phone won't help anyone if ever the power ever gets turned off 📴 .

P.S. A fun Whovian game to play is "Which Doctor would have *just walked away* at the end of 'Dot and Bubble'?" My votes would be Nine, Eleven and Twelve.

i think 12 would have followed along and started demonstrating survival skills at the settlement he starts 50 yards from them so they can copy him. he would not give up trying to save them. or he would have found a way to knock them out and transported them against their will. the eyebrows would have been pushing for that one

Welcome! And yeah, lighting the bane of my existence 😔 unfortunately that setup the only lighting I really had was a window behind the desk or room lights, and usually I recorded in the day but I go to it late this week so there was no front lighting. I have a new set up now though, and things are a lot more in my control!

If you wear a headset that inverts your view the brain adapts so I'm sure when the bubble is lifted you lose orientation and your senses as in walking have to be adapted or relearnt.

I love your take on the episode. Seen a lot of reactors and I'm glad yours was in the recommendeds just now! Good amount of time discussing it, post-episode, which is more than what most people do. 👍 btw I knew Ricky September would die as soon as he appeared in one of the boxes onscreen 🤣. Or maybe I just wanted him to? 😅 Lindy's outcome was the total opposite to what I expected. I was so sure she'd come to her senses and use some actual initiative, then redeem herself by saving everyone. How wrong I was!! She really screwed Ricky over 🤣. Very rare you get an episode's protagonist being so self-centred and nasty! Then you get the implied racism...truly awful.

My take on the dot and the slugs. The dot is part of the technology these people have created on their homeworld. There are quite likely replicators that supply all the physical objects, food, etc. as I doubt anyone is physically making anything in FineTime or the homeworld since they have such advanced technology - I mean, that is just so "manual". The thing is the network of dots developed into an AI or sentience as the Doctor speculated and that actually decided the incessant chatter, the endless superficial behavior, etc. of these people was just too much to take and it decided to eliminate them. Maybe it decided it could come up with better "standards" and the people just didn't meet the criteria? Now... AI isn't always very bright as it learns things. It's "best" idea (perhaps after failing many times before) was to go through alphabetically killing people and it created the large slugs using the replicator technology and decided to just direct these people into the slugs to finish them off... starting with the homeworld inhabitants and then moving on through the network to FineTime and that was working rather well so it really saw no need to do anything differently. I don't think the AI ever considered it could have the dot refuse an order to turn off (it isn't like many of the people were even turning their dots off on a regular basis - well except Ricky) or that it could just use the dots to efficiently kill off the population. Ironically I think it only considered the possibility of using the dots as a weapon when the Doctor jumped to the conclusion that technically the dots could do that and was trying to warn Lindy to turn the dot off quickly because it is only then that the dot first seems to decide to try out this new method (slowly becoming more lethal as it learns from each failed attack). I have a feeling that after that no one else still in FineTime made it out.

G'day Wren , Only me again fear ye not it'll only be a single comment : You may know of this film called " Logans Run " Stars Michael York and Jenny Argetter 1976 it's a very good film it's set in a domed city where there is a set death timeline I think 🤔 you are terminated at mid twenties just to keep their set space from getting overcrowded . Also just remembered Soilent Green that has even darker connotations no spoilers . I'm off to get a cuppa and a crumpet 😋

15 is not the first black doctor. Jo Martin. To be honest I really wish we had a full season with her leading the show.
@DanielRed2
@DanielRed2 4 месяца назад
As far as this Doctor is concerned, he's never been black before (and was never a woman until one incarnation ago!). The Jo Martin 'Fugitive' Doctor comes from another lifetime, which this Doctor has no memory of.

G'day Wren , hope your doing fine and goodly , This season seems to have been off to a Rocky start but like all new things that's the norm , this episode is a good social indictment on how things may progress if unchecked , if Elon Muske has his way everyone will be turned into A cyberman 🤖 . Has a slight Matrix feel . Anyway Wren I better not write too much I'm also told I'm annoying . To me this episode was the best as I'm a mega Introvert and during the whole covid problems because I didn't do even less than usual my muscles especially my right leg ones forgot how to walk and I'm ever so slowly doing exercises to build up the back of the knee ones , I love your Outro where you say go out take a walk have a drink get off the youtube for a while . This little Aussie is glad he came across your Channel I'd love to have a chat on the discord but my Social anxiety is way too high 😢 I mainly just chat to my 2 cat Bill & Ms Flitt , I bought myself a mug on ebay it says " it's way too peoply outside " anyway Wren you are good people when I watch your video's it's sort of like I'm watching alongside . Thank you

" it's way too peoply outside." I can relate. Excellent episode on many levels with bonus points for the Classic Who look to the slug-huggers. (I guess the official canon name is 'Man-Traps'.) Thanks Wren! I've subbed and will be with you through the series. PS - enjoyed your Firefly playlist!

I must say this Wren , you mentioned something about how there had only been White Doctor Who's and how you think that is racism , well it's not the word racism is thrown around far too much with no context " We are all Human we all bleed the same blood the series is The BBC and they have to play to their greatest strengths and its Briton mainly white the white people are indigenous to that country and don't go calling me a racist as I'm half Australian Aboriginal the other half Irish Australian , now this next statement is going to be very controversial we shouldn't let the Minorities control the Majority's that just creates division . There is much for people to ponder 🤔

@GamesPaulPlay. Not sure how you define/break down majority vs minority. Are we talking gender, or age or ethnicity… immigration status. Something to ponder.

Oh I don't think it's necessarily racist that Ncuti is the first black Doctor and every other actor has been white (or. mainstream black Doctor, if we're counting Jo Martin as well). I think in many ways it's more a reflection of what current society is like. In this instance, it's the Doctor's first time (that he can remember) experiencing racism directed at him.

@@mark_da_it_guy No I know I've , woken you up from your sheep like slumber of how if everything isn't going what you think is correct in your heads that it is racist , it's akin to the boy who cried Wolf 🐺 too many times after a while the crying Wolf becomes ineffectual and becomes mute to the point of where everyone stops listening to the cries of the Wolf's are coming they already there .
