Facing Christmas 3,000 miles from his estranged wife and two children, New York policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) flies to Los Angeles bearing presents and hoping to patch up his marriage. Stylish and cool Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) is in Los Angeles as well for the holiday season, but he's not there to give out presents. He's there to take more than $600 million in negotiable bearer bonds from the multinational Nakatomi Corporation, where McClane's wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) is an executive. When the takeover becomes hostile, it's up to John McClane to take on the terrorists with all the grit and determination he can muster--but not without a sense of humor.

When this first came out, one of newspaper reviews described Reginald VelJohnson's character, Al Powell as "the Teddy-bear-like cop." I thought that was a perfect description. What's even better is that Reginald VelJohnson actually has a company named Teddy Bear Productions.

I’m very surprised nobody mentioned this yet but fun fact: when Hans fell that was Alan’s real reaction because the stunt coordinator purposely dropped him on “1…2” instead of the anticipated “3”. Made for an awesome scene. 😆

In addition, when bruce(or a stuntman) was climbing down from the vent, and it seemed he missed something and fell, he really did. That’s why the camera looks so wobbly. The cameraman tried to catch him.

According to official lore of the British Army's 57th Regiment of Foot (hich has now been absorbed into the Queen's Regiment), the term "diehard" meaning someone who stubbornly, even irrationally, refuses to give up originated at the Battle of Albuera in 1811 when their gravely wounded commander, Lt. Col. William Inglis, refused to be evacuated from the field and stayed with his men and rallied them to stand their ground or die trying with the words "Die hard 57th! Die hard!" Despite suffering heavy losses the 57th did hold until British reinforcements could arrive to drive back the enemy. Afterwards, the after action report stated that all of the 57th's wounded or dead were hit in the front (facing the enemy, not running from them), and the frustrated enemy commander Marshal Soult complained "How can you beat such troops? I penetrated their center. I turned their flank. They were defeated. The day was mine. But they did not know how to run away!" Since then, the 57th have been nicknamed "The Die Hards." Though there is evidence that the term "diehard" predates the Battle of Albuera, the 57th absolutely earned the nickname that day.

There was a span of years that they "segregated" smokers inside in smoking sections. After a number of years when it was finally found that didn't really work, indoor smoking was gone. Transferring from New York To California is like transferring from one retail chain to another. If your in management you might then get a job in management but regardless your time most likely starts over. It would be different if he were a Fed and transferred to another location. Hope your going to watch the other Die Hard movies. Die Hard 2 is a Christmas Movie.

A cop from one state cannot just switch to another state. In fact, even if you already have police training in one state, you would have to go through the whole training process if you wanted to be a police officer in another state. Sure, it might be easy to pass the academy at that point, but you would still need to put in the effort and pass all the exams etc.
@robertlombardo8437
@robertlombardo8437 11 месяцев назад
I attended academy once, so I kind of know how it works. If you have prior law enforcement experience, even in another state, the academy process is usually abbreviated. And depending on the state, you may not even need to do it. And furthermore, if you're a detective like McClane, you might not even require FTO or a probationary period. Probably just a series of seminars on your new department's policies.

Roy Rodgers was an actor that had a western TV series back in the day. Very popular at the time. He usually sang a song at some point in nearly every episode, and so became known as the singing cowboy. Before his acting career took off, Bruce Willis held a job as a bar tender, so it was a bit of an inside joke when the police captain said "he could be a bar tender for all we know."

The John Wick director said on Joe Rogan's podcast that he loves the old-school bloodbags, but they did not use them for John Wick movies because it takes too long to have to clean everything up and reset between shots, including needing to also change new clothing for everyone. So, they had to create new ways to try to rush everything along and not waste time setting up the next shot & also to save money. LOL, I love how wide Jane's eyes get when she's scared! Die Hard 1, 2 & 3 ranks among my top favorite movie trilogies of all time. Besides this movie, my other favorite Alan Rickman movie is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I enjoyed The Fifth Element a good deal, but to be honest, it is not among my favorite Bruce Willis movies. But, The Fifth Element has grown on me a lot over the years that I like a lot more now than I did when it first came out. Other than this movie and Die Hard 2 & 3, my other most favorite Bruce Willis movie is The Last Boy Scout. Under those movies, I love GI Joe: Retaliation, Armageddon, Hostage, 16 Blocks & Tears of the Sun.

Those bonds was as good as gold. They're not really used in the U.S these days but in the 80's they could be cashed in at most banks (maybe even all banks). They couldn't be traced because they legally belonged to whomever possessed them. Hence the name 'Bearer' Bonds.

The actor playing Al Powell, Reginald VelJohnson, got the lead role in Family Matters thanks to this film. This and Gremlins are my go to Christmas movies. This has the same director as Predator

Different cities and states have different state laws and procedures. Transferring to a different police department in a different state involves I'm sure a P.O.S.T refresher and a brush up on the laws and procedures for that state or cities department. I am sure it would go something like that. It isn't just like a regular job trqnsfer.

@@SeeJaneGoTVI can understand that. I'm sorry I wasn't clear about this, but I have seen you display this attitude with many subjects. From technology, as we've addressed, and even the ability of people in decades past of being able to handle emotional complexity. As for the note about 999 possibly being better because one is less likely to make a mistake… in any PIN I have to create, I use double digits for the first 2 numbers. This has saved me numerous times while tapping in my code. So you are not wrong.😎👍 I forgot to mention, _an enjoyable reaction as always!_ I am a little worried about how the stress you seem to put yourself through, especially poor *Jane,* is impacting your health. I just think for your sake you guys should consult a doctor. Because stress is a killer. And you may not feel it, but it could be taking years off your life over the long run. Hopefully you guys counter these experiences with some wonderful physical activity outside. 🤷🏼‍♂️ *EDIT:* I don't even really know if that would completely cancel it out. Please be well! 🙋🏼‍♂️

True story; I was watching Die Hard on HBO the night of September 10th, 2001. I woke up the next morning, turned on the TV and saw a building on fire and thought Die Hard, again. So I turned it off and rolled back to bed. And then I realized, _”Die Hard isn’t shown in the morning. What was that?!”_ I turned the TV back on just before the 2nd plane hit.

Whoa... that's some story. I was 11 years old, in middle school. Mom woke us all up and took us into the living room, but we had no clue why because nothing she said made any sense.
