In this episode we read from the September 1983 issue of True West magazine, in an article written by Gordon R. Gilmond and illustrated by Mick Harrison. This story is about Sophie Morigeau, who was half-Indian and half-white. She ran cattle and goods through Montana, Washington, and British Columbia, as well as Calgary. She was involved in ranching and bootlegging, and also ran a store out of her log cabin in the Tobacco Flats County of Montana.

Oh, man, I can't believe you reference 80's True West magazine! Your research, my dear man, is stellar. The older elementary school primers are impressive enough, but you actually manage to make even the decades or centuries past seem tangibly nostalgic. If you don't hit 1 million plus viewers, America has truly lost her way. You and channels like Wild West Extravaganza contribute so much more by way of solutions to problems than the harping upon problems prevalent today, especially with politics, culture, and media being so far out of whack, and it's nice to remember the perspective that no matter how hard you may think you have it these days, if you're in America, plenty who were way tougher than we will ever live to be went through far rougher just to get you here. Kudos on the channel, and many, many thanks from an appreciative viewer.

You are correct, none of this history is taught in schools or to the public. If it wasn’t for you, we would probably never know about the great woman named Sophie Morgiau. I definitely learned a lot from watching your video, so please keep them coming. It would have been nice to have known Sophie and even had some of her items for sale, such as her maps made by the Native Americans and who worked for her. May god bless this beautiful and brilliant lady! Thank you so very much.

I guess the saying, "No good deed goes unpunished" fits well here for Sophie Morigeau. And your comments about democrats was spot on.

The Tobacco valley plains is here in this part of Montana where I'm typing this comment from. *P.S., Very well researched and presented video. Just one thing though, here on the US side we pronounce Kootenai 'koot-en-nee' - a few miles north in Canada they pronounce it 'koot-en-nay'

I understand what you are saying but it is not spelled either way you both pronounce it. The A would be silent and pronounced KOOT-EN- I

Sounds like an entrepreneurial woman. She could do well under any circumstances.. fact of her mixed heritage did not matter in that part of the west. I’m in Oklahoma and it doesn’t really matter much around here either. Great video.

Fascinating video, a little different than most of yours but I still liked it. Sophie sounds like an amazing woman! I’ve dated two women that only had one eye, one had a glass eye the other wore a patch There is the old joke about the one eyed woman that had an artificial eye made of wood which she was understandably rather self conscious about She was at church social and saw a handsome man with a wooden leg She approached him and inquired if he cared for some ice cream He replied “ Would I !” She yelled “ peg leg ! Peg leg!” And stormed off

I knew a gal who only had one eye and she thought that she lived in a duplex! I heard your joke about fifty years ago and it went like this, “wooden eye, wooden eye”, “Peg leg, peg leg”.

"if that's how those who knew her factored "one's worth", then there are Millions of Broken People and ... Those judging don't have a clue what "Fixed" means,. Good for Sophie, for we in truth are our Souls and in it lies all that we desire. The Human Vessel is temporary, and "all the created ideas associated with it that we are taught to believe". Those who achieve the knowing 8f this and exercise a practice of being: "Conscious in Thought" + "Applying Higher Mind" Will experience the Life Journey as intended. Everything is a Perspective ...
