STORY
🏠 In Today's Journey: Deep Exploration into Alabama's Forgotten History
Join us as we venture deep into the outskirts of Alabama, where we stumbled upon an eerie, yet captivating scene - a completely furnished house, abandoned for decades.
Through our research, the mystery deepened as we discovered the tragic tale of the last inhabitant, Misses Ted, who tragically passed away on the couch inside the house. Due to cost savings, she was buried in her own backyard.
Before she passed away, she had spent over two decades living here alone. Her children had stopped visiting, and there was hardly anyone who cared for her. Adding to her loneliness, her husband had passed away in the 70s, leaving her without her beloved soulmate for decades.
This tale dates back over three decades, and astonishingly, no one, not even the children, seems to care about the belongings left behind. Once a happy family home, it now stands as a desolate time capsule, a testament to the past happiness of Mister Leo, Misses Ted, and their three beloved children.
With a touch of sadness and intrigue, we invite you to join us on this journey where we unveil their forgotten story. Discover the secrets that lie within this haunting residence, a symbol of a bygone era.

Just a couple of corrections; the one piano is an upright the other one is a Baby Grand. Some of the beds are from the late 1800's and some early 1900's. My grandparents had similar beds. I think the one is a Jenny Lind. This lady being 85 would definitely have furniture from her parents or grandparents. There are lots and lots of antiques furniture in the South. I am 74 and I have furniture from my grandmothers and from a great aunt. Would love to have any of the antiques. Sad to see them decaying.

Those mattresses we see at ~33:00, in the baby's crib, and 35:00 were handmade, possibly by the householders. I still have such a mattress, made by my Grandmother. Back in the day 🙂 there were traveling merchants. They would put announcements in local newspapers, telling the folks in a town or community when they would be there. They sold the ticking (the heavy canvas-like outer fabric) and cotton batting (the "filler" was layers of cotton fibers that were rolled out in layers, until the desired thickness was achieved) (you can google terms) and sewn into the case. My Grandmother told me several times about how they were made. (By the way, the English pronunciation of "sew", "sewing" (machine) is like in Dutch soo. Rhymes with so, flow, sow - Bro...) 🙂 I love your explorations, and really appreciate how you appreciate the lives that the homes you visit represent. I wonder: When you're back at your home, sitting, late at night, do you ever imagine that in 70 or 80 years, someone may be exploring the room you're now sitting in? Do you wonder what questions they may have about the significance of the things that you have, the life that you led? Keep up the good work!

I took care of my grandparents. Last one was my paternal grandmother. This was in 2010 and I was told by a nurse in the emergency room that I took her to one time that nobody did anything for their grandparents these days. I was really shocked. My family never did our elders like that. Until my worthless brother and after grandma passed on I told him to take a hike, like a lifelong one the hell away from me. LoL. I'm in my 60th year now. But my health is good, I'm very lucky that way plus I worked out every other day since 2011. Life doesn't have to be a drag when you're old.

Hello Lesley, great to see another adventure from you on this Sunday afternoon (my time zone), evening for you in Portugal... Another beautiful explore handled with your usual care and sensitive manner. Very sad and unusual for you to know of a situation if true, where the former resident died in the home... Some of the things I noticed are that the car outside is not a Buick, but a late '70's early '80's Ford Fairmont ('78 - '83) and in the book of 'Etiquette' in the grand piano room I believe was the name "Nell Turner". That page of stamps for you found on the floor, "S & H Green Stamps" as they were known... I haven't seen them in ages, yes they were given out mostly in grocery stores from making purchases. The more you spent, the more you received... and could trade them in for household items. Anyway, thanks for sharing with us... Take care on your current and future adventures and say "hey" to Danny for me! Eric W.

At the end of the day, they are just things. Things are for life. You'll have no need for them in death. I am not having kids so I will die with a house full of my crap too but it's fine. I'll be dead so I won't care or know what happens to it all anyway. It will be sold in an estate sale/auction probably. It's sad the family heirlooms won't stay in the family, but it is what it is. Maybe they will bring joy to someone else's life somewhere or become a new family's heirloom.

Even though all the furniture is still in the house, it appears her chikdren or grandchildren did remove all personal items, such as letters and photos. Leslie found no personal photos on walls or in albums or anything. And some else mentioned no china so seems that was wrapped and taken. And it was mentioned the 1982 calendar could be a personal one of her grandkids maybe. And all people have their own personal taste in furniture and have their own things. I know my kids do. When therir dad died they had to foreclose on his house and we had no time to get everything out. Something like that could have happened here. My kids already had their own homes and jobs that were 40 minutes or more from him. Just trying to say no one knows the circumstances. But it is a shame the couldn't remove and sell some of that furniture.

When you see something like that, it makes you sad. You begin to realize that the most important thing in life is not material values, but people, your own people. It is scary to be alone in old age!

Beautiful home❤ I love the upstairs balcony and the down stairs porch. It would be perfect to sit on with a rocker and watch the days go by. What memories this home has. If only they could talk. I wish the family would get those antique furniture. They are wonderful ❤️

Leslie bro, your command of the American-English language is improving. Keep on keeping on. I'm too lazy to read all the comments so, forgive me if someone has already commented on this but, the NON grand piano is called an "upright piano". Sometimes south of the Bible-belt they call them "Saloon Pianos". It might even be an "Upright grand piano". It kind of depends on how it was tuned without getting into the details. Actually, the 'Grand piano' in that house is technically a "Baby grand" if it's length does not exceed 6 feet or so.

Nobody shuts up cupboards or vanities anymore. It would be so easy to push the stuff inside and shut the doors.

What an incredibly sad story😢. Her family sounds a bit uncaring. It’s wonderful to have something anything that belonged to a loved one. Thank you for doing this video Lesley and welcome to America ❤

I grew up with one of those vacuums, they didn’t work that well and that’s what I told my mother trying to tell her to get a new one. 😂

Leslie honey, hello from a 70 year old grandma. The piano ,s that. Are able to be pushed against the wall are called upright pianos. Grand pianos are larger and round shaped at the back. They take up a whole room. Love your show!!!! You bring back lovely memories from my years gone by!!!! Be careful and God bless!! Hello from Missouri usa.

Most of that furniture comes from long before the 50's. It's probably similar age to the house.

It is not right to automatically judge children who are now elderly people, themselves. We do not know what happened. For all we know, their mother could have kicked them out and refused to have anything to do with them because they married people she did not like. She may have chosen to be alone and put it in her will that she be buried on her family property that her father bought and built the house on; that way it could not be sold, since it has gravesite. Somebody must have cared for her; otherwise you would be looking at her skeleton still sitting in the chair she supposedly died in. I think it more likely that she went to a nursing home in 1992, per her calendar, and her grandchildren have made use of the property.
