R.I.P. Helen Reddy. Her fantastic version of "Delta Dawn" should be your next reaction. Other hits include: "You And Me Against The World", "Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady", "Leave Me Alone", "I Don't Know How To Love Him" and, of course, "I Am Woman'.
I've always loved this song for it's incredible and eerie storytelling. The late Alan O'Day, who wrote this song, had quite the knack for storytelling. His own hit "Undercover Angel" is something else! I believe he also wrote "Rock and Roll Heaven" by the Righteous Brothers.
Alan O'Day wrote this eerie and wonderful song, performed to perfection by Helen? Even more respect for him, which I have had since Undercover Angel, one of the 70's catchiest tunes!
from Wiki - The song tells the story of Angie, a young girl who "lives her life in the songs" she hears on "rock and roll radio", her mental disturbances led to her being removed from school and having no friends, leaving her to spend most of her time listening to the radio, imagining lovers entering her room and then disappearing when her father knocks on the door. One day, a neighbor arrives at Angie's house with intent to do her harm, but once he enters Angie's room he is disorientated by the loud music. The song then turns surreal when, as Angie turns the volume of the radio down, the boy begins to shrink and is pulled into the radio. The closing verse describes the disappearance of the boy and the townsfolk's speculation that he was dead, but nobody asks Angie for an explanation; she says that the boy has become her "secret lover.
@shyman99 On a first listen, it's easy yo miss lyrics when you are talking in the song as a while. Jay often misses most of the lyrics as he is listening to the bass, drums or guitar.
One of my Helen Reddy favorites. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the story. Her vocals are just right for this song - haunting yet vibrant. Close your eyes when she sings "never to be found" and it makes you wonder just what happened to her "visitor" ? A question that is left to ones imagination.
I have always loved this song so much! When I was a kid my mom had the record. She would shake her head and laugh at me because I would sit by the record player and listen to this song over and over again. I grew up listening to Helen Reddy (among others) and I just love her voice!❤
@@leahsunbury9639I was 10 when this song was a UK hit,but I do remember listening to my lodger's coipy of Band on the Run repeatedly not long before that. I liked the dark, mysterious, almost sinister story of Angie Baby that she put over so well in song.
I LOVE Helen Reddy! Ain’t No Way to Treat a Lady, Emotion, I Don’t Know How To Love Him, Candle on the Water, You and Me Against the World, Keep on Singing, and of course, Delta Dawn.
from Wikipedia: During the 1970s, Reddy enjoyed international success, especially in the United States, where she placed 15 singles on the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Six made the top 10 and three reached number one, including her signature hit "I Am Woman".[3][4] She placed 25 songs on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart; 15 made the top 10 and eight reached number one, six consecutively. In 1974, at the inaugural American Music Awards, she won the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. On television, she was the first Australian to host a one-hour weekly primetime variety show on an American network, along with specials that were seen in more than 40 countries.[5]
In the book of Psalms in the bible King David says that his body is fearfully and wonderfully made by God .Jesus Christ is our Creator . He died for our sins and demands our serenader to him. If we want to make it to Heaven to be with him for ever. We are born in sin .And God Hates sin. Thats why we need to live for him daily to make it to Heaven .We all need a relationship with Him. He is NOT a religion. Just like our Family is not a religion. They area a relationship. God is very loving. Thats why he sent his son Jesus Christ to be our sacrifice for our sins. So now our life is not our own .The Christian life has its ups and downs. But it is worth living for The Lord to be able to be with him FOR EVER .And not in Hell for ever with Satan who hates you. I hope who ever reads this will be thinking bout your eternity . Every one has a choice .Its up to you. I love every one. And I hope to see you in Heaven
Helen found more success in the USA then she did here at home in Australia. Yes, she was fairly successful here, but the US market was more her style. When Helen emerged onto the scene, Australia was more onto stuff like Skyhooks, Hush, Sherbet and other local rock bands.
I am constantly impressed that Amber picks up on the story line the first time she hears a song like this. As a reward to Amber, make you next Helen Reddy stop be "You and Me Against the World," a Mother-Daughter anthem.
My mom absolutely loved Helen Reddy. She had this particular album on vinyl and this was one of her favorite songs. This Friday, Dec. 8th. marks her passing since 1981, where she was killed in a car crash. I miss her so much. 🥺😓💔💔
Love Helen Reddy, she was a huge star in the ‘70s. As a child I loved I Am Woman & Delta Dawn. There was another female power singer from the same period you’ve never down & would love, Melissa Manchester. I would recommend Don’t Cry Out Loud from her.
'No Way to Treat a Lady' & 'You and Me Against the World" Once she was in the audience at a Neil Diamond concert...He called her to the edge of the stage & got her to sing a little bit of one of his songs. She had an awesome voice.
TY for once again showcasing our beautiful Helen Reddy, still a sad and huge loss to us here in Australia. My all time favorites from her will always be these 2 songs..."I didn't mean to love you" and "You and me against the world" maybe you can add them to your soon to listen too file. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤❤
More songs by the Australian artist Helen Reddy: "I Don't Know How to Love Him", "Delta Dawn", "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady", "You and Me Against The World", "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)", "Peaceful", "I Can't Hear You No More", there are others but these are good ones to start with.
Helen Reddy was the first Australian artist to top the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and she had three US # 1 hits with Angie Baby being the last one. It topped the chart for one week on December 28th 1974. Reddy was a big star in the US in the 1970s but her career winded down in the 1980s. She died on September 29th 2020 at the age of 78. RIP.
My favorite by her was "Delta Dawn" 3 years and still can't get but one of these women on female Fridays! Where's Soul Train when you need it? Come on Amber and give these awesome soul singers some love at least once.... Check out Stephanie Mills hits "I Feel Good All Over" " Comfort Of A Man" and the duet with Teddy Pendergrass "Feel the Fire" Still waiting on you to do other awesome soul singers like Phyllis Hyman(Living All Alone) and the most powerful singer Jennifer Holliday(And I'm Telling You) Betty Wright "No Pain No Gain" Lisa Fisher "How Do I Ease the Pain" Sylvia "Pillow Talk" Angela Winbush "Angel" Evelyn Champaign King "Shame"
I'm a fan of those lady singers also, but FYI, they did Lisa Fischer's "How Can I Ease the Pain" 4 weeks ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5wuJeX8_q6w.html
They did Lisa Fischer's 'How Can I Ease the Pain' already. I have recommended a lot of the others you mentioned. Especially Phyllis Hyman's 'Living All Alone' video.
This is a really good song. However, in my opinion, her two best songs are, “I AM WOMAN” and “DELTA DAWN”. I think they already did “Woman” so next up, please try “Delta Dawn”. 😊
This is one if the 70s great story songs, sung to its slightly dark, ominous best by a 70s queen of pop, Helen Reddy. You are a little touched you know, Angie baby! Ho, boy!
She's great. I remember being in 2nd grade or so when this song came out, and my oldest sister who was in high school had this album. So much Helen Reddy in our house when I grew up. One of my favorites. Check out her song "Peaceful."
The later half of the 60s and first half of the 70s had a lot of clever pop songs with unexpected twists in them that you wouldn't see coming when hearing the song for the first time.
She was also in the movie Pete's Dragon. I was working at the local movie theater and this was back in the day when you had to walk up and down the aisle to make sure people didn't have their feet on the seats in front of them. I would go from this theater to the one playing Saturday Night Fever. Quite the contrast of music.
So glad you did a reaction to this song. When I was a child, I was mesmerized by this song. Two other great Reddy songs are "You and me against the word" and "I don't know how to love him"
This late Australian woman was a real big star in the 70ies, and even Rock was my favorite music, I liked women like Helen Reddy and her songs too, and she looked real pretty, got a lovely voice.
When I was young my mother took me to a Helen Reddy concert which was really my first major concert. All of her songs still remind me of my mother has been gone for about 17 years now. Thank you for the memories.
You might also like Helen Reddy's hits "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" and "Delta Dawn" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him" (from the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar") and "Candle on the Water" (Oscar-nominated song from the 1977 Disney movie "Pete's Dragon, which Helen also acted in) and "You and Me Against the World."
This definitely brings me back to childhood. I was kind of like Angie myself, as I had few friends and spent an unhealthy amount of my time holed up in my bedroom listening to the radio. With that said, I never interpreted this song as "fun" but I think it's open to interpretation. It always seemed very dark to me. She kept the boy in her room? In the radio? She's definitely nuts, and probably dangerous. That's my take anyway. BTW, "Delta Dawn" was her other big hit back then.
Need a Slade reaction guys…Cum on feel the Noize or their 50yr old Merry Christmas Everybody still charting every year. But Helen Reddy was a force of nature, check out her beautiful song from Disney’s Pete’s Dragon Candle on the water which I just heard today at Disney Springs
Wow. I remember Helen. She was all over the place. Her voice is everything. Thanks. You guys, Rock. Peace and love. Btw, Annie Lennox ~ Right By Your Side
Having lived on the Rock & Roll radio when I was in High School, I can relate to this song. I love the story I think more than the music. Was a number 1 hit for Helen Reddy.
One of my favorite songs. Also check out You and Me Against the World, Peaceful, Leave Me Alone, Delta Dawn, I Don't Know How to Love Him, and Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady.
In person, she was very pleasant. Back in the late 90s, she was doing several nights in a play in Toronto. On that show's off night, my band had the theater. She made a point of coming over to us at breakfast the next morning to tell us she had enjoyed our show and wished us well. Just a very nice thing to do.
Back in the 70's I raced motorcycles and while driving to the races on a Wednesday afternoon I heard Delta Dawn on the radio and that song was one of those that just got me up. Well that was my first 1/4 mile flat track win. I called my race bike Delta Dawn and had my dad paint Delta Dawn on the fender. Every time I heard that song from that day forward I won my races that evening. The mind is a wonderful thing and a song can do so much to it.
We would hear this on the School Bus in the morning, like all other tunes We had Music Students waiting for an ELO track, for the Cellos, Police fans.Tgen a song would come along that would make us think and savour. Reminds me of a contemporary film,Play Misty for Me.
Sooooo happy you got around to this one. This is my favorite song by Helen Reddy, and such a lyrical masterpiece. So what do you guys think actually happened to the boy who came in with bad intentions? Alan O’Day, who wrote “Angie Baby” refused to elaborate on it because he wanted people to have their own theories, but also claims it was never intended to be a mystery, saying he thought he made it very clear. He said that what happened to the boy is definitely trippy, but he thought he made it clear. I’ve always loved the creepy vibe of this song. Great reactions as always! ❤
Helen Reddy's voice was so unique to me. The clarity and tone was perfect for the song she selected! Loved her!!! ❤. Amber you are so amazing to understand that song! I NEVER understood that until today! ❤❤❤❤
Ooo…I loved this song. I totally relate to it and use to play this all the time at work. Also, there was a really cute animation that I think a fan posted. It went well with the song. Thanks guys for reviewing. 🙏🏽 ❤
Helen Reddy was known as the Queen of 70s Pop. I remember as a kid (I'm old) she always had a big hit on the radio from 1971 (I Don't Know How to Love Him) through to 1981 (I Can't Say Goodbye to You). In total she had 11 Top 20 pop songs and 3 number ones! If you do another reaction video please do some of her ballads like You're My World or her poppy songs like Delta Dawn! Love this channel. I think I'll sub if you do more Helen!
While stationed in Seoul South Korea in 1991, I met Helen Reddy while she was performing at a festival. I had always been a big fan and I was blessed to be able to have a nice conversation with this wonderful woman. It was something I will never forget. She was a gem in a rough world.
This is back when songs told stories and had meaning makes you think when you listen to the words to this song and other songs like it makes you want to close your eyes and picture yourself that person or maybe in a situation. True artistry and music can make you do that.
"Back in the day" always seems better because people today focus on the good songs from that time and forget about the piles of dross songs that sank into oblivion.
