You know, I would love to be in this audience because there was no screaming and the ladies (and gents) were respectful. I love the Beatles. Like if you agree!
@Leon Erin - McCartney carried that skill right through his time with Wings... and still right through today. He is still one of the greatest live performers the world has ever seen.
What l love about the early songs, is that there was no ego involved... everyone sang leads or pitched in harmonies for the good of the band. Paul and John treated each other as equals, no ego. No one said Wait, this is my song. It's exactly what l tried to do with my own band. Whoever sang it better, simply sang it. Whoever thought they could add to it, did. And like the Beatles, everyone was so talented it was never a problem. Altho l could have sang it, l simply walked off stage when my it was time for my incredible guitarist to sing Black Sabbath War Pigs...
My incredibly gorgeous wife was at Shea Stadium... and Billy Joel would pick her up and take her to see his band The Hassles, at the Aerodrome in Schenectady NY. My Stepson's father played in Foghat and I sang with a long line of Blues Greats, opened for many greats, and was the doorman at the legendary JB Scotts nightclub in Albany NY, doing National Acts 6 nights a week...Vinnie, Doug and Billy took acts right from WLRI in Long Island, scouted either from NYC or London, and scouted acts like U2, Billy Idol or Blondie..., literally hundreds,. Even Jerry Seinfeld, Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, Pat Benetar, Edgar and Johnny Winter, The NY Dolls, Tim Curry, Judas Priest, 38 Special, Marshall Tucker, all in a 500 seat club! Just way too many to even remember. At 19, l was on top of the Music Industry working with bonafide legends... even 38 Specials brother and now Lynyrd Skynyrd's frontman, Johnny VanZant said l was one of the best vocalists he'd ever heard... and asked if he could sing with MY BAND - who were among the best NY musicians there was. Man , then l became a top DJ on Albany's No 1 Rick station and opened my own Blues Clu, promoting 27 of my own concerts.
My god. Whenever I hear this, I'm 15 again, with my ear to the old radio in our living room, cranked up to full volume, and just feeling every note! I'm nearly 75 and I'll never stop wanting to hear Beatles music.
I’m 75 and I still remember hearing them for the first time hanging out with my friends when someone played I wanna hold your hand on the record player. I was hooked from them on.
The "yeah, yeah, yeah" refrain is legendary. "She Loves You" storms out of the gate unlike few songs before or since, kicking off with the chorus (how many songs did that in 1963?). The sound of #Beatlemania wrapped and delivered in 2 minutes 18 seconds.
@@garymorris1856 Fantastic. Tickets for that gig on August 21st were priced between $2.50, $3.50, $4.50 and $5.50. The other acts on the bill were, Brenda Holloway and the King Curtis Band, Cannibal & The Headhunters, and Sounds Incorporated.
We are the luckiest people on earth to witness the musical giants like The Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Smokie, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Status Cuo, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Lou Armstrong and Janis Joplin. Peace, Love and Rock N 'Roll ✌️
Stephen B. U didn't want to b in my house on that day in 69-70 when they broke up. My parents were REAL CAREFUL what they said to me THAT DAY. I wanted to slap ANYBODY that pissed me off. Being able to SEE (hearing them was not possible) them in concert in SF in 65&66 🌹❤️ will always b #1.in my memory. Hope I never lose that scene in my mind. And YES it was total mass hysteria. Seeing it on tv is NOTHING to what really happened. I was there so I do know first hand.
Thing is, Paul McCartney loved being in The Beatles. Watch him being the 'bass player in John's band' on 'Don't Let Me Down' on the rooftop years later. Still loves it (just as much as, say, when he takes the lead vocal for 'Get Back').
Listen to Ringo's drumming on the chorus,I had never noticed how busy and heavy his drumming on this song was in this song before, absolutely outstanding, especially considering when it was recorded and how pop drumming had traditionally been before the arrival of the Beatles,Ringo Starr is an excellent drummer and Ringo was the absolute perfect drummer for the Beatles. Bob.
Janet Sampson I’ve heard the song a million times, but it only struck me a few weeks ago playing it loud in my car just how much it ROCKS for a song from 1963. I mean really it sounds so much heavier than any major pop songs that came before.
Jewel Miss George you'll have to miss nobody hey there with you the same song for your mother forgot to say you say so stupid stupid stupid stupid idiot idiot idiot and completely completely completely open up your heart and let you go anime Ben Nevis Tucker baseball are like God regular like csis play me because I'm studying and I love you very smart. It’s worth mentioning that the vast majority of their early studio recordings were actually done completely live with no overdubs. They were just *that* good!
When you think about it it’s not really. In their early days there was very little studio trickery available, indeed The Beatles were pioneers in developing studio trickery as they progressed through their career together. This was very much 4 men, 3 guitars, 3 amplifiers and a drum kit and that’s it, they recorded it they way they played it. They didn’t do overdubs and things like that in the early days, it was recorded live in the studio with all 4 of them playing and singing together.
One of the things they did do in the studio was double track the lead vocal. John Lennon famously hated doing this and didn’t make much effort to sing exactly the same line he did previously. To get round this they developed an auto double track system which takes a single vocal line and doubles it, applying some effects to it to give the impression its two very close but different vocal lines. That’s an effect used to this day to thicken up vocal lines. Personally I don’t think it is as good as a singer doing it themselves, doesn’t sound as natural and is a bit cold, personally I prefer Lennon singing two lines and them not perfectly matching it’s more human. The other extreme is someone like Freddie Mercury who was so good at doing it that you almost can’t tell it’s double tracked and has an amazing very subtle phaser / chorus type effect on his vocals, it has a quality that you can’t achieve through studio trickery.
The melody, harmonies, lyrics to the verses, and George's guitar fills, are all just perfect. And an unerring live performance, without any effects, extra backing vocalists, guitarists or effects of any kind- it sounds just like the recording, which is incredible.
@@garmen- sure you do, John was constantly smiling and even laughing during the early days of the Beatles, he looked like he was having an absolute blast of a time.
This is from a Swedish TV show in autumn 1963, just before they became really big. The Swedish audience was taken by surprise and stayed quite calm during the concert. That's why their music goes through so well. I was 10 years old and saw this program together with my family.
@@robrussell5329 I'm not going to argue against that, although I can hear differences compared to the single version: There's a distortion on John's voice and the tuning is slighty lower on the single version. Whatever is the truth, their music came through very well during this concert, just because the audience was so calm comparing to later concerts. I saw this broadcast live in 1963.
Gosh this sounds absolutely fantastic! I’m tingly all over! 🥰 I LOVE THEM yeah, yeah, yeah. They sure knew how to write love songs. For my 16th birthday my oldest brother (by 7 yrs) Robert, was away in the Air Force 🇺🇸 he mailed me a copy of the Beatles “Love Songs” album. I’ll always treasure this sweet memory as he passed away unexpectedly last year.
@@OneEyedKeys you sound like someone who needs to be comparing all the time? Why? Would Paul be anyone without John and the boys or would John be anyone without Paul and the boys? The answer is most likely no for both of them. We definitely wouldn’t be talking about either one of them if it wasn’t for the other. First of all John started (and ended) The Beatles so had he not invited Paul to become a Beatle we most likely would never have heard of Paul or probably the Beatles. As a Beatles fan more than a John, Paul, George or Ringo fan, you realize that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to compare John and Paul or George, etc... John had what Paul didn’t, Paul had what John didn’t, and George had what neither of them had, and Ringo was the perfect genius beat behind it all. Any delusional McCartney fan who thinks Paul is “the best Beatle” doesn’t realize Paul without John, George and Ringo is Wings! Not a knock on Paul, he was the perfect bass player, co-songwriter & multi instrumentalist for the Beatles. But just because he’s still alive and making music doesn’t make him any better than the other 3. I mean John was the founder and leader of the Beatles and that’s how all his music peers of the time saw him which is why David Bowie, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones all chose to collaborate with John out of all the Beatles. Everybody wanted to play with John. Either way, it’s not John or Paul that made the magic, it’s the chemistry of all 4 Beatles!
When I see John and George happy, playing their guitars, I want to cry... They're dead... This stayed in past... Future Beatles don't look like this...
in Feb. 1964 i was in 4th grade. i remember seeing the first Ed Sullivan show appearance and all the later ones. it took about 30 seconds to become a life long fan. i'm near 69 years old and their songs bring me back to my youth in my mind. they WERE the soundtrack of the 60's for me. In My Life will be played at my funeral when I die. "
Sometimes, this song (in particular) blows me away more than the later stuff (which I admit I have always listened to much more). So simple, so direct, so perfect in literally every way.
Nhi Ronaldo 👍. Now that’s a good comment right there. Unlike those lies about his “death” which is fake. He’s still alive and he’s perfectly fine. He definitely is! ❤️❤️❤️
One of the best sounds in all of musicdom is the 4th "yeah" which can be heard only twice, at the end of the intro and at end of song. Perfect harmony and thats not easy singing live with all the amps so close. And with Paul bobbling his head left to right, John doing the same front to back and Ringo at a 45 degree angle like built in bio metronomes, no wonder the timing was always perfect! George instead bobbled his whole torso front to back. Once you notice, you can't unsee this incredible Beatles phenomenon.
It's Ringo's drums that drives this song. I love that swishing sound on the cymbals, uniquely Ringo. Also the modulations are perfect and he leaves something left for the ending. I appreciate this song more than when it came out. Yes, later music were maybe more advanced, but right from the beginning there was already something primal to their music.
It fits a definition of a perfect pop song I once heard: 1. A catchy melody that grabs you immediately. 2. No more than two choruses. 3. Really short so you wish it would go longer.
My sister saw the Beatles at The Forum in Montreal September 1964. Her love of the Beatles was passed to me. When I was driving my daughter and her friend to soccer I had Beatles music playing in the car. Didn't those two know all the words? And now my granddaughter is listening to them - she's eleven. Three generations and that's probably common nor do I think it will stop at three.
Actually they could barely hear themselves only the volume of the crowd was lowered that's all Ringo couldn't hear anything and he just went after their movements what a legend!
@@leandrogomes2351 The only thing "cringe" is your inability to discern the truth. Stay blind. It's nought to me nor the original poster. Stay in sheepland.
I remember as a pre-teen seeing them for the first time on Ed Sullivan. The next day it was all us kids could talk about at school. “Did you see The Beatles last night on Ed Sullivan” ?! We went crazy. The boys wanted to be them and us girls were trying to decide which one we would marry. (we actually believed that we had a chance) 😂 Boys trying to get away with wearing their hair like that. The ones whose parents allowed them to do it were the coolest. The other poor boys had to wait till they got to school, went to the bathroom and tried to get the Brill Cream out of their hair 😂 The rest is history. Total game changer in the world of music. It was so much fun. We were young and blissfully ignorant of what else was going on in the world. Life was very innocent. I miss it and if I could go back I would in an instant. I’d be able to be with my parents, grandparents, great friends, all the kids in the neighborhood. It was a great time for us to be alive.
OK...I confess: If I was a girl I'd be in love with Paul. ADDED COMMENT ALERT: Alright you guys, I decided to add this to my famous first line. First, I meant what I said. Second, it was not in any way a hint that I am gay - though some here have suggested so...and even wanted to believe that. Sorry, but no go. It was a humorous way of complimenting him. As for sexual attraction, mine is very much in favor of the ladies. Sorry if you are disappointed or determined to believe otherwise. So let me just some it up for those who believe me and those who don't. To me, ladies are beautiful in every way. Their faces make ours look ugly. Their hair is so far beyond men's that the Bible even says, "The glory of the woman is her hair." As for women's bodies, really? Their breasts are beyond any man's. They are soft, womanly, and feminine beyond description.Their bottoms are so attractive and sexy that if a man doesn't take care and control his manners, he might gock like an idiot and stare like a moron. Are men's legs anything compared to women's? Or, speaking more about the female face, their eyes, their noses, their lips, their cheeks, chins, foreheads, ears and neck are beautiful beyond compare. That is how I see them. If this disappoints some of you, well, the only opinion about women that matters to me is my own. No offense intended for anything I have said, and no offense intended toward the gay community. In the end, the only one who cares about our opinions are ourselves.
So true Sam! 😄 This was the second Beatles song I sang at 39 North's Wednesday night karaoke last month! 🎶 In fact I sang FOUR of their songs that night! 😁 This was one of them. 😏
Sing Caballo between you and God are you who is the real friend is a wonderful compare with any friend of this Earth and in front of this word they said they can take your girlfriend it work for you with almost see what I was thinking that you wasn't friend don't be stupid there are only one you can trust is God is your the home via Taylor did you be a trailer got the look at 3 to three guys are going to give you nothing even going to trust you you'll understand because the he know what did you think in your mind still be stupid like a 1 year old boy I want you to go don't be stupid don't trust nobody only God gorgeous. You you are the one who going to save you I am running time in three years I've been saying to everybody the same thing the first word that is on you that you are a idiot where you are you committed man hero where you at a Super Saiyan thing but where you'll get them my homework that's the best thing completely mine and you have Buspar will Greenwood God listen for free I don't tell you nothing why I was going to get mad when you doing something wrong so sick about good everything going to be gone fine
The greatest landmark in the history of rock & roll was the release of this song... The greatest band ever with their signature chorus truly opening the floodgates for what was to follow....
From 1:15 to 1:28 I just love that sequence between Paul and George. I love how Paul gives George a big smile. Like this was at their peak when they actually enjoyed playing with each other. Notbing beats the early Beatles in my mind js. 63-65 was their peak years in my opinion.
I totally agree, there’s this strength of youth during the 63-65 era. They seemed happy as can be, really creative, definitely productive. And holy hell, they were such handsome men!
yes, for teenage excitement we may agree, nothing like them! But they really grew as musicians after that. From Rubber Soul on (December '65), they entered a deeper level of artistry....all of them.
This music will live forever. These boys were just having fun... And the rest of us built a life rooted in their gift. Paul & Ringo are still an unexpected gift to us. Love them all. They shaped my life. They changed music.
This is from a Swedish TV show in autumn 1963, just before they became really big. The Swedish audience was taken by surprise and stayed quiet and calm during the concert.
Live in Sweden 1963.Live recordings are never the best quality. This is one the best live versions of She Loves You,I have ever heard,as the Beatles were still into being the Beatles at this point.
I think the best is the Nov 1963 color taping in Manchester for Pathe news, it's the song, the wild hair, I think the definitive performance that represented Beatlemania at it's peak.
Paul left hand dominance, George right hand dominance, symmetry for the step in harmony lines. All these years later they just seem like the confluence of perfection.
garygrasser I don't think it's fair to diss things like that. Sure, it sounds like crap a lot of the time, but some artists like Childish Gambino use it and sound amazing.
This is such a terrible mindset. There’s still amazing artists exploring new soundscapes, have the audacity to search for these artist and you’ll be surprised at the unparalleled variety in music today.
Paul always loved performing in front of crowds. From his Beatle days, to Wings era, and his solo career tours, he's always been an enthusiastic artist on live stages. That's just one of the reasons why he's so great!
John looks mature for his age, Paul George and Ringo have that innocence in their eyes. They were just young boys, but very talented one. Evergreen song ❤
It’s interesting to know that John was “blind as a bat” as George has put it, when playing without glasses. Whenever I see his early live performances, he always has this thousand yard stare. But I guess that helps with the nerves too
9 yrs old and hearing this uplifting, smile inducing, thing of beauty and power for the first time and realising that the music world had been changed and we were able to go along for the ride. I'm 70 next birthday I've listened to many great songs by superb artistes and been lucky to have been amongst hundreds and tens of thousands watching great musicians do their thing, \but every now and then, I'm once again nine and remembering the shear and utter joy of hearing she loves you yeah yeah yeah for the first time. A golden moment in the springtime of life for an old man to remember.
Geoffrey Gentry - "they will probably go far" What - with that hair, that silly name, and an obvious lack of serious musical talent ? Nah.............................and my Dad says so, too.
I remember being 8 and wondering why girls back in the day loved Paul so much, but I see him as much more of a handsome person now. I can see it more now, even though I am not a girl, and definitely not gay. Still doesn't change the fact that John is my favorite.
One day, whilst strolling across youtube, I stumbled across this video, it was some very old 60s song called "She Loves You" . I was really intrigued and played, and immediately fell in love with this song. The "yeah, yeah, yeah" refrain is probably the catchiest thing I have heard in my life. At the end of the song I was astonished, it sounded so real, so energetic, and so infectious with joy, and light years better than the music we have today, even if it lasted barely over 2 minutes. One time I played it at least 10 times... in one day (I was so in live with it as you can tell). I then searched for their other songs like Back In The U.S.S.R. and Help!, and both fell in love with those too. After listening to their other works (and loving them) I realized that literally NONE of what I heard was at all bad or underwhelming, decent at best. Then I stumble across songs like Strawberry Fields Forever and A Day In The Life, which blew my mind. I never thought music could sound like this. In my opinion, The Beatles are without a doubt the greatest band of all time,. Their catchy songs, their songwriting, their influence around the world; no one will ever match them. And I have this song to thank, for introducing them to my life.
Awww.. How paul starts to see in camera 0:29, I just melted... ❤️❤️❤️. Love you Paul... And John how he starts to smile... 0:47.😍😍😍.. Ringo is in his own world.. 1:36. George is like yeah, guys go go... Lovely.. 😇
I'm sitting here drunk and I realise that yeah I would like to live in that era and listen to them but I'm happy I live in this day and age when I can listen to any song I want with the click of a mouse or a touch of a screen
On this day in 1963, 29th August, The Beatles fourth single release "She Loves You" entered Britain's Record Retailer Top Fifty Singles chart at #12, their highest debut position to that date. Two weeks later the disc hit #1 and spent the next 18 weeks within the top 3 during which time "Beatlemania" fully arrived in Britain.
Don’t be naive patricia. They are the best in the world but it’s possible to match their talent. I write music also. Truth is I have an iq over 160 and I’m trying to reach equal levels of success myself. Don’t be closed minded and acknowledge that it is possible.
@Alex Pratt There are loads of musicians with "talent" that have been extremely successful, besides The Beatles. The appeal The Beatles had, with the combination of those particular 4 guys together, the time they hit, the excitement, magnetism, energy, fun and enjoyment they created with their music is what I think Patricia Goodman was implying. THAT is going to be hard to duplicate. That said, it would be nice if a new group of "youngsters" could replicate all that in this day and age with their own formula. Rock On!
Ludanne, I get what you’re saying, but they are good because of their level of talent. What I’m saying is just because music sucks today, doesn’t mean there isn’t geniuses, or even exceptional geniuses out there. It is possible to have a band match their levels. Me saying my band is great may sound cocky. But I don’t want my music to be generalized into the category of the terrible music of today. It is possible.
