I really really hope the She-Ra fandom doesn't become toxic. I hope it breaks that pattern that we have seen with 'recent' animation fandoms like Steven Universe and Voltron.
i honestly couldnt tell you if it has. from what I've seen there has been a lot of mixed feelings about the abuse narrative but it all seems very well thought out and all opinions seem valid so far. and with ships Ive noticed that well.. every character has at least 1 moment with every other character so they're all valid lol. it seems that everyone just accepts that there gonna be a bunch of multishippers

@@theberrby6836 well, I don't know. They've only ever been seen together in background scenes and, even if they are usually pretty close or always together, it is just subtext. Honestly, as lgbt friendly as this show is, Rogelio, what I've seen a lot of fans call him, didn't have a single line in season 1, so I doubt were going to get much on the two of them together in anything other then cute background scenes.
I love the she ra reboot with all my heart but I am avoiding the fandom like the plague. I am terrified that it will turn into a new voltron and I cannot deal with that again.
For now it doesn't seem this way, but I would generally recomend sticking with Ao3 and its intricate tagging system, as its easier to not read what you don't want to If you want to explore more of fandom, being very carefull who you follow on tumblr and blocking tags is generally the best way, I somehow escaped most of the Voltron discourse, because I was just following 3 multishipers and almost none of the tags, and I am still having a calm experiense with SU, because I only watch theories, and only of a few chanels, so most of my experience of fandom discourse is people commenting on it... and miraculous ladybug, which I have to do a cleaning of blogs and tags for
I will chime in as someone who grew up with the original She Ra, I definitely enjoy the new one better since it takes a property that let's be frank was a vehicle to sell toys with paper thin plot and characters to show with great world building and fantastic characters. I look forward to seeing your Catradora video though I'd love to see a video about SeaHawk and Mermista.

You all do you, but She-Ra is the first series that has managed to make my head turn away from my primary fandom for more than 5 minutes, and almost 2 weeks later I'm still deep into it lol But some of the concerns surrounding the fandom might be accurate. Voltron is ending soon and with how progressive She-Ra is I can already tell a large amount of kids will jump on board. It's like She-Ra and The Dragon Prince will take the hurt of all of these people jumping into a new fandom and it is a quite scary scenario. It'll be a mix of Voltron veterans and femslash fans from different fandoms and that can be either a good thing or a bad thing if something nasty happens and causes a fire for whatever reason. Either way She-Ra is worth a try, I have faith in Noelle and so far I have been nothing but satisfied with the series. If she keeps it up I am not sure why anyone would hate the series, at least not in its core location (tumblr). Also not to generalize but so far the only people i have seen posting in the NotMyShera tag are a bunch of dudebros complaining about how progressive the show is. It's like they didn't even bother to watch it, they heard of lesbians and started to complain immediately. That and those who apparently think they can do a better job at animating it than the actual crew.
@@gbdeck200 That's because they weren't given as much budget as other series, but with the end of Voltron hopefully both She-ra and The Prince Dragon will get more money so they can shine more because other than animation I thought both were really good.
1. I LOVED She-Ra, the character designs, how they relate to each other, the backgrounds, the music, ugh I really enjoyed watching this show. But if you want to watch the first She-Ra, too, do it before watching this reboot. This will feel x10 older, and may spoil the fun of it (I couldn't even finish episode 1) 2. Of course my main ship is Catradora, their past, how they had each other's backs, how Catra felt Adora betrayed her, how Adora is only now seeing the truth of the Horde and the reality Catra had to go through by not being Shadow Weaver's favourite. UGH so much potencial. But I also really like the Best Friend Squad as an OT3, or just Glimmer x Bow (Blimmer? Glimmow? Bolimmer???), even though I love their friendship even more. Maybe add a one-sided Scorpia loving Catra. And a good Everyone x Happiness (except Hordak, he can go die in a dumpster I guess) 3. I think the only ""bad"" thing about the reboot is the pacing, but I kind of understand where it's coming from. They couldn't have Adora in the Horde for too long, but I would've loved to see more of Force Captain Adora trying her best to sort things out for herself while getting front seat action to the many ways the Horde is destroying their world. And in the last scene where all the princesses join forces to help Bright Moon, it felt like most of the princesses needed a little more time to understand one another, specially after what happened to Entrapta, and the whole situation with Frosta not trusting any side, and then just suddenly helping the Rebellion (she does have a reason, I think, when she saw how the Horde messed up the Princess Prom, so maybe she thought it was the right idea????? No real explanation from the show, tho) Overall, I think this show is really good, and I hope the fandom doesn't go berserk like certain one did ~_VLD I love you so much, too, but PLEASE BEHAVE FOR THIS LAST SEASON_~ And we have officially started Christmas/Holiday season!!!! yay~
I think the pacing is a result of the low episode count, or rather what is now a standard episode count. I agree that another episode of Adora with Horde would have been appreciated.
I made a ship. I present to you... BOWKYLE. Its between Bow and Kyle (duh). Its not like they havent met. Its just that they havent really interacted all that much.
My main problem woth the show is the inconsistency of character anatomy, sometimes She Ra has gigantic legs and tiny arms and other times she has muscular arms and normal legs
I have some problems with some of the pacing, (the episode at the spa place in particular with how it fits into the overall narrative) but overall I really enjoyed She-Ra and am excited to see where things will go. It also fills my love for girl power cartoons and i know i won't have to worry about the "everyone must have a boyfriend by the end" thing that tends to happen in them, which is nice. so far I don't really ship anything. as far as Catradora goes, i just want them to be friends again😢 I love the character designs, even though the flat coloring was something that i had to get used to. I am a little worried about what'll happen with She-Ra and Dragon Prince when Voltron ends, but i'm gonna hope for the best. I don't really get involved in fandom anymore (aside from fan art and youtube videos) but i'd hate for people who like being in fandoms to have the fun ruined for them
idk for me i really like the new she ra, but i've also never seen the original bc i wasn't born then. i wouldn't say i'm IN the tumblr fandom but from what i can tell of it (as i am on tumblr, but not actually into the fandom yet) it's not toxic as a whole. the people on there who aren't constantly trying to say it's bad for being a little gay and a little too new are all really nice and aren't really trying to pick fights
Growing up, I saw the original He-Man but never got the opportunity to see She-Ra, so my experience with it was limited when this new incarnation was released. I was aware to some extent of the backlash to the redesign and queer theme by some (and unfortunately got to see firsthand some of the disgusting intolerant things being said). Upon seeing the first couple of episodes though, I pretty much binged it. Though the animation quality sometimes comes off as a little cheap, it’s at least fluid and colourful. It’s the characters though, oh my goodness, the characters!! I honestly don’t think there is one I don’t enjoy in some way, they’re amazing. And I have hardcore fallen in love with Catradora. It’s got that Zutara/Reylo vibe to it which my heart can’t resist.
I haven't really focused on any particular ship in the series as of yet. I do like their personalities and interactions with each other. I adore what they've done with Bow. I've seen somewhere (potential spoiler *sorry *) that Bow will have two dads and I cannot wait to see them. I want to see the parents that raised such a great kid.
I watched this show, i think about a week ago? And honestly, so far everything's just incredible. But my main problem is definitely lack of fan content, especially as someone who's main ship is Catrapta (Catra x Entrapta), aka a ship that's dwarf compared to the main two, Catradora and Glimdora. So far everyone seems to be calm and respectful enough about smaller ships such as mine, if excluding the small number of people exaggerating about Catra's attitude towards Entrapta and Scorpia. I believe this fandom has a good chance of ending up fairly peacefully, I believe most of us have already witnessed what can become of a fandom if we allow our selves to act in the wrong way.
I donno how popular this oppinion is, but I love Scorpia. Yes, she may be more of a comic-foil type of character, but there is just so much opportunity for character development. Plus, the ship with Catra has some good potential too. Or at least just romantic tension.
There's already a small but vocal contingent of anti-shippers in the SPOP fandom, calling Catradora "abusive", "toxic", and even accusing it if being incestuous. So I feel like that might be impacting the volume and content of the fics appearing on AO3. People don't want to deal with harassment.
I saw a couple articles about how the new She-Ra was a good animated show and decided to give it a shot. I ended up really enjoying it. I binge watched the season in a couple days and saw the potential for quite a few ships. Not sure I've got any that I'm particularly drawn to, but I'm looking forward to more if we get it. And I love this video! :D
I had no idea there were people upset about it besides the early "not sexy enough" ones. All my friends have been incredibly positive about it, and we *are* the generation that grew up with the original series. O.o

I ship Scorpia and Catra. Not necessarily romantically, but at the very least platonically. I also just really love Scorpia as a character. She has such a great and positive personality and is so nice to Catra and Entrapta.

I did not think fandoms and shipping were such a rabbit hole! Granted I rarely go on forums for these sorts of things but I just thought shipping was just like "Hey how awesome would it be if X and Y were a couple?!" TIL I guess lol
As ever, I am hopelessly out of touch and have not seen either the original She Ra, nor the reboot (yet). I will say though, I suspect the lack of fannish outpourings on spaces like ao3 & deviantart compared to twitter & tumblr has more to do with it being released so recently than anything. Twitter & tumblr lend themselves very easily to the semi-instantaneous fannish reaction/squee, whereas creating fanart and fanfic takes a bit longer.
My problem with this show is not the fact that is a reboot, the ships, or how progressive it is, my problem is that this show is nothing special and it doesn't deserve the praise that is getting just because it has some lesbians, if the all you need to have a overrated show is put lesbians on it instead of creating a good narrative and actually good character development, everyone is gonna start to make shitty shows and put in there lesbians or fat girls, and then boom, a great show. Besides the animation... damn, it's so horrible, how can someone see that and say the animation is great?
This is ganna be a the good the bad and the ugly where the ugly is just my personal ticks. The Good 1 I appreciate the racial spread and how it's handled as both this is just who they are you don't need to point it out at most moments but still biracial status is mentioned with Glimmer a few times. 2 I can see how this is very much a modern show and as media has evolved that's led to more depth, quality of design, and story telling. 3 I see tons of potential and will give it a second season to really judge it. 4 Awesome villain work. I approve of like 90% of what's been done to the villains. The villains and Bow are the only huge personality changes I approve of. 9/10 Would love to see these villians again. The Bad 1 It's spread a bit too thin and trying to have too many things both ways. It wants over arching plot with monster of the week but isn't quite selling either. I prefer the episodes that are linked over the semi stand alones. It leads to deeper story telling and better pacing. 2 Pacing, it just felt all over the place. Worst of all some episodes felt like they could have been better by either being shorter or in rarer case longer. They did not feel balanced. 3 The voice acting for me ran a spectrum between average and sub par. This was something that I felt the most with Glimmer. Maybe that's more the lines beong said than how but it felt wrong. The Ugly 1 This child is not my She-Ra, not because of look or target age tone or most of what I've seen complained about, but because so little of the personality Adora had is gone... Adora of the classic show was my top female hero growing up and shared the top spot with Adam/He-Man for overall. This was my gal. This was one of the few female characters that made me feel like being a girl was okay and like I could still be what I wanted to be even being born as a chick. I saw so little of the character I still love in the New Adora that I have to mentally distance the two. I keep asking where is the sassy confident intelligent hero I knew. I see hints of it here and there that New Adora could get to that, but then they have her do things like literally break rocks to up moral... 2 Alongside New Adora very much not being my Adora I see practically none of the old characters in most of the modern cast. Queen Angela Glimmer and Seahawk being the ones with the biggest strikes against them. I just can't respect these characters as leaders of their factions the way I could before, and yes I went back and rewatched a fair amount of classic show pre-release so I'd have a clear memory of them all... And that's that. I see it as having great potential as a modern cartoon, but these characters retain so little of their classic personalities that they feel more like the children of but not their namesakes. Maybe that's just me. May the power and honor of greyskull be with those that love the new as well as the old.
In my opinion Adora will develop her sassy and confident personality later. I think that creators want to slowly change her personality, but along with the story. Same will happen with Catra, but I'm not sure about others..

I finally watched it today! It's actually really good. I like it a lot! 1. Am i enjoying it? YES 2. Ships I have a few. Mainly three(four?) favourites. I'm.. not sure what the ship names are but hey.. such is the life. 1) catradora - otp - canon in my heart forever and i am very happy rn. Can't wait to see where they take their relationship! And OH i shipped this long before i watched the show and then the show just kept on giving and i might actually cry they have such an amazing relationship! And HO BOY I'M GAY 2) Bow/Glimmer they're cute. I just think they're cute. Obligatory friends to lovers side ship to go w the enemies to lovers main. Just have to have that. Can't not have that. 3) Scorpia/Catra - it's cute. I just think it's cute. Also i'm gay and i am here for this aesthetic lbr. Also i just... i want someone to hug Catra. Even though she doesn't want to be hugged. She still should be hugged. 4) low key like Bow and Adora tbh. But 4th place could also go to Adora/Glimmer. The trio is frankly adorable and very shipable. Although i probably prefer the lot of them as friends. ((5)) tbh i ship most things. I could go on. There are a lot of cute ships. And canon lesbians??? More of them. Always more of them, please! 3. Pros cons I thought it was great. Like it's not my favourire cartoon ever but i genuinely enjoyed it and i'll definitely watch it again. Cons: All the names are pretty dumb. Sometimes the animation could be better (though it's very good tbh at least it does the job). I guess sometimes it's childish but like... it's 7+ and also i love it so... shrugs Pros: This is the gayest thing i've seen since steven universe and i am not complaining. The characters are lovely. The writing is tight and also good. The animation is pretty and the character designs are lovely WHAT AN AESTHETIC THO It's so FUN it's just fun Never a dull moment! Adora is the love of my life. I went into episode 1 with low expectations, and ended episode 13 with, i was wrong it's better then I thought. I'm not a part of this shipper community, this, catradora as it's being called, if it happens I don't think it'll ruin the show, if they do it right, like not to soon but not last episode. Either way if catradora makes it to the screen or not the show itself isn't bad and should be fine.
Ooooo the creators gave so much ship fodder for sooooo many possible pairs. Personally I'm all about mermista × pretty much anyone else. Also scorpia. I want her to be happy even tho shes a villain because shes somehow the biggest muffin in the show.
I'm on the side of it still being the early days of the fandom. Remember when bronies were new? The fandom had its original growth period during the summer before season 2, and then started blowing up after the 3rd episode of that season, likely aided by John de Lancie voicing the villain in the season premiere. Even then, the fanfiction boom for the show didn't start up until halfway through the season, about 3 months later. Tumblr might be a sign of early interest, but even the bigger fandoms take time before they can make a major impact on the other archives.
She-re has been a great show so far and I hope it continues to grow and become more popular. The only thing I'm worried about is the fandom that is going to grow. I don't like getting involved in fandoms that shows bring because they start out fine and then some of them get so toxic *cough* the Voltron fandom *cough* seriously what is going on with that fandom!!! Why are people threatening the cast and DreamWorks!!! Now I know that not everybody in a fandom is like that, but sadly there are people like that and it makes me so mad. Why can't people just enjoy the show and story without starting stuff. But no for some reason people think that threatening the cast and the company will solve everything. It just really pisses me off because really talented people put a lot of effort into making Voltron and She-ra so why can't people just appreciate that. They have the story and they know which direction they want to go with it so why can't people just be happy and just be supportive of it. Please know that I'm not trying to say that everyone in a fandom are bad people because I'm not I just want the people who are causing stuff to stop...sorry I've ranted way to much about this and I hope that whoever does read this knows that I'm not trying to offend or hurt anybody I'm just trying to say that doing that isn't right and it needs to stop.
I think it's okay. I just want for other people to be okay with it being okay. The internet's snowball discourse of politics and morality and industry critique and their rule over fandom seems to just not allow for that anymore: either it has to be perfect for the people talking about it or it has to be scrapped; I just… want it to exist? And enjoy existing the way similar 22-minute adventure cartoons did 20 years ago.
I love the new She-ra so much already! I honestly haven't seen much discourse? for the most part it seems like people are content with everyone else' ships since it's still early on in the show and we haven't seen too much of each. I guess i should call myself a multi-shipper, however i lean far more to the catradora spectrum of things. But i'm totally open to the other ships and find myself enjoying moments between every ship in the show. I hope She-ra keeps going strong and doesn't fall into that toxic slime pit that most fandoms in recent time have fallen into.
You know on Canadian Netflix they have a poster that they use that's them standing back to back gazing into the middle distance, as if Adam is a main character.
I am part of Voltron’s fandom, and i never was a part of the toxicity of the same, but I do recognize that it exists. My point here is that I always enjoy my fandoms without making a big deal of it, I get obsessed but only as a personal hobby not nothing that damaged the crew and creators of the show. I love She-Ra cause it feels part of the same group where SU and the other “magic girl” shows are, and cause there’s a lot of characters with a true personality, something that voltron couldn’t have because of the same toxicity
For me: Pros: fluid animation, fun plot, mostly likeable characters with only a few random ones who I felt were unnecessary or overly bland, enough mystery element with the first ones to be interesting but enough progress towards Understanding it with Entrapta to not feel as if its going nowhere, overall good character development (except in one case in my opinion) Cons: some throwaway characters such as all of the random recruits who are brought back as semi-recurring characters for god-knows-what reason, shadow weaver being an angsty overly mysterious annoyance who makes no sense and only seems to exist to mildly annoy Catra but not actually present any sort of threat to her, the whole glimmer-bow “character development” in the princess ball episode being generally cliche and boring, some characters like perfuma and the ice one feeling like underdeveloped cliches that could be amazing if developed further. Personally I like the show despite the cheesy or poorly thought-out bits, and will keep watching. Also my otps are catradora because duh and scorpia x entrapta, mainly because scorpia just likes to be helpful and nice to people and entrapta always seems lonely, and needs someone who will put up with her antics, and scorpia has shown to always keep a smile when entrapta’s doing her thing, something glimmer, Catra, Adora, bow, and really every other character in the series hasn’t done well
I loved She-Ra, its a little cheesy but I found that endearing. The character designs are amazing, and Mermista is my ABSOLUTE fave... I went into it having already heard about Catradora and a few other ships, I think I personally gravitated to Catradora because I loved their chemistry and scenes together. I'm personally excited to see more of it, and will probably get my friends to watch it, but I'm planing to stay as far away from the fandom as possible - I'll still like fanart and theories when they show up on my feed - but a lot of what I've seen on Instagram has been VERY anti-Voltron, and I don't want to interact with the more toxic fans who will bash a show just because it isn't as progressive. OBVIOUSLY I know that not all fans will be like this, I just prefer to enjoy things on my own for the most part... or watch videos like yours - you're always so level headed about shipping culture and never bad mouth anybody. but yes. I look forward to more She-Ra and to all the beautiful fanart that will emerge over the course of the series.
I like the times we're living in. Creators of cartoons and etc. are getting more and more aware of how big role ships have in the show, which means in the future, we might get more cartoons or any other medias like she-ra that's just PRETTY OPEN
I'm now way too into Catra x Scorpia, and the lack of fics is honestly causing me to consider writing fanfiction again. WHY DID I HAVE TO GET ATTACHED TO A RAREPAIR
I've just finished She-ra, and I can't say i loved it. I don't hate it either but I can't see how everyone loves it so much. I've got a few ideas as too why i don't love it, but other than that its not a bad show. Just not a great one. I'll list a few things I think could have gotten me more interested. 1) She me more of She-ras life before she became She-ra: The reason i mention this is because so MANY characters mention this. It's constantly in the air, "We were always meant to be there for each other", "We were you're friends too" but we never SAW how they were her friends. In fact, we don't even really see how Catra and Adora were friends other than Catra getting annoyed at Adora for being promoted. We see a little bit later, but seeing what she had to leave behind and seeing her difficult choices in battle would have been better, rather than being told so by characters. 2) Because of the afore mentioned point, Catra and Adora's relationship looks toxic: Instantly I didn't like Catra, and I don't mean i hate her or wish she wasn't a character, no, not at all. I just could see how problematic she was going to be for Adora. Either she was going to be such a lazy character that Adora would have too do all the work in their relationship, or she was hugely jealous and ruin their relationship like that. Obviously, we know what happened. Don't get me wrong, her back story is excellent, and makes complete sense, I like her as a character, but not as a likable-character if you understand. I certainly don't believe she should be together with Adora (I actually think Adora shouldn't be with anyone, but thats a completely different thing) 3) We didn't really get to know characters: Now, this will most likely be covered in later series of the show, so I'm not going to be too critical, but there were a lot of times where I believed that getting to know certain princesses would have added to my enjoyment of the series. If something ever happened to a princess (AKA Entrapta) I didn't know enough about them to feel bad. I didn't know she was feeling left out and so that moment she was captured for a will they won't they moment there was no tension because i truly had no reason to know what she'd do (And no, having no idea what they'd do in that situation isn't good, knowing they could go either way because of evidence FOR either way is better) 4) Everything was rushed: I'm not really sure why this was the case. In Voltron there was multiple episodes where they were learning their powers, and yes Kat-ra does this a bit, but not nearly as much. This is probably because all the characters know their powers already, which sped things up a lot, but what I saw happened was Adora finds a sword, turns into She-ra once, doesn't know how to do it again, but by the next episode she does and then all future powers are discovered and figured out in the same episode. Again, with more characters this wouldn't be so obvious, but because this is happening too one character, the pattern is extremely obvious. Also, whats happening with the plot is that we're pushed forward extremely fast too where, after only 13 episodes, the world is already in danger and all the princesses are suddenly friends. 5) She-ra and the Princesses should have lost the final battle: Now, this is first and foremost a kids show, so i understand why they didn't do this, but it would have been fantastic story telling. Mostly because, this will quickly turn into a "Whats the world ending problem today She-ra". They've played a massive card early and there's not much room too grow. Yes, we will probably end up having a lot of emotional growth withing the princess gang, but whats the point of emotional growth if we don't see how they react differently to more and more stressful situations? What happens is that they bring it up in a few episodes and then in one episode they will sort it and then it won't ever be mentioned again., unless its to do with She-ra and Catra, in which case it will go around in circles in till the end where Catra will either die, sacrifice herself or join the rebellion where the show will end. Having the Princesses lose at the end of this season gives them a starting point to crawl back. It's a whole new session where they're trying to cease back control. Think every second movie in a star wars trilogy, yes they're the worst ones, but the third ones are great because the second places them in an underdog position to come back from. Overall, I watched it and shrugged. It's a good kids show. Not a great one, but a good one, and is a good stepping stone too making shows this accepting to be normal. SU, is a great show, but it was a show with a series point to prove. This show is normal, and that's good, because its showing every Kids TV show that you don't need to make a big point to have this sort of acceptance, but other than that it's a kids show. It's written as a churning out episodes kids show, that i would be glad for my little sister too watch.
I found the new She Ra meh/ok overall. It’s not bad but it’s not what media outlets hyped it up to be. I do enjoy some the characters, like Entrapta and Scorpia. I really like your take and being neutral. It’s annoying when outlets say people hate the new She ra because she’s not sexy and it’s the middle aged men hating.
Tbh... I’ve liked all the ships this show has presented so far. Which is low-key a big deal for me, because usually when it comes to a ship, I’m very particular with them, and don’t want certain characters to be shipped with anyone else. I’ll tolerate it, but that won’t change me from being uninterested. In this show however, I have my favorite ships, and then I have ships I still honest to god like! Who would’ve thought.
I just binge-watched this show in a few hours and then came to check out this video. I love the new She-Ra that they took so many stuff from the old show and made it cooler. I tried out the old version a few years ago and it didn't really work for me, didn't get more than a few episodes in. As for the shipping side, at the moment I'm just swimming in BROTP'sand haven't really developed ships yet. I like catadora but at the moment more BROTP than OTP, and I ship Catra with Scorpia at the moment (don't know what the ship name is). I definitely get that it's not for everyone and I hope that the fandom doesn't become toxic. I find the She-Ra reboot interesting. What bothers me is that everyone know who She-Ra is and it feels like a battle mode than a symbol. The original had Adora struggling on having 2 different lives and her responsibility of said double life. Another things is the way they use Madame Razz and Light hope. The original guide She-Ra on how to solve the conflict or think outside the box. The new version feel like they are their exposit information and really not there to do anything useful. As for shipping, I see Adora and Catra working. But I saw an interesting interaction that caught my interest. Bo and Kyle anyone?
Can you do a video on Minako and Rei from Sailor Moon, they have so much chemistry in the Japanese dub and manga it's crazy! They are drawn in many intimate poses in the official manga art, where the only similar poses are of the two canon couples of the manga/show. I would also check out Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, it's a live action Japanese tv show and they interact alot there too. On top of that there's a connection to greek and Roman mythology that has to do with their closeness and I don't think it's a coincidence!
I really like the reboot! To be honest, it made me watch the original which I'm kinda enjoying more (because I like cheesy kids stuff and the opening eps were pretty interesting. I also watched a bit as a little babby in late 90s since my mom would rent me the tapes). I like the art style and character designs, Adora and Catra's story, the world it's building etc. I really hope it gets a season two. A problem I kinda have is that Adora's character seems a lil flip-floppy to me at times, she's normally serious and stuff but then that Entrapta intro ep had her be.. kinda dumb (before they get to the castle I mean). I'm not sure if I truly ship Catradora or Glimadora? I really like the idea of both (tragic childhood friends to enemies to possibly lovers. Redemption. Rivalry that can lead to UHHHH... vs soft friends to lovers stuff, teaching Adora about the world outside the Horde etc.). I think in those cases it's more what they represent that I like more. If I see a cute piece of fanart or fic for either tho, I'm hardly gonna complain. Catra/Scorpia and Catra/Entrapta kinda catch my attention more though. Also Netossa/Flutterina like YOOOOOOOOOOO CAN WE HAVE MORE OF THAT MAYBE... ESPECIALLY IN THE SHOW... (planning on drawing those three pairings eventually pfppf). I also kinda like Glimmer/Bow but I'm sorta afraid to voice that ;;. I'D BE SO DOWN IF YOU DID A VID ON THE ORIGINAL SHOW MAN.. I like Bow/Ada, Adora/Frosta and Bow/Adora-Shera so far for it!!! Though, I weirdly like Catra/Adora there and I know I do? omfg.
I saw some buzz about catradora and SheRa on twitter which made me cautiously excited for the show...then I binged it over the past week and fell for both! Their relationship dynamic reminds me of another (much more depressing and tragic) ship I loved in the Magi series (it's cassali, if you wanna look it up and have your heart crushed), which makes me excited, but after all the disappointment and stress I've experienced in fandom, I'm holding back a little. The discourse I've peeped at on twitter has already made me weary, and this video was a nice sort of balm to that rising anxiety. I was pretty disappointed to find the AO3 catradora tag so empty when I checked it the other night, but like you mentioned I think that it feels too early to really dive in for a lot of people....I'm happy to wait and occupy myself with the Arcana in the meantime~ & with finals & holidays, of course 😅😄
Could you do a video about Timeless and it's fandom? It's pretty interesting, with is being canceled two seasons in a row and being brought back in some capacity due to fandom demand. Especially after the season 2 tv finale which ended on a huge cliff hanger, and lead fans to go and buy advertisement spaces, such as a helicopter to fly over comic-con promoting the show and asking for a revival or switching of networks. This has been embraced by the writers and actors who have directly responded and even personally shown up to interact with fans during these displays. *There is going to be a two-hour Timeless finale movie on Dec. 20 on NBC* which *the fans* bought a NYC TIME SQUARE ad for, and HOPE that, while this will be tying up some loose ends from season 2, it will lead to another chance at renewal on a different network or streaming service once other networks can see how dedicated and diverse the audience is. (Also, there is a slight Cold War ship war between the Lyatt (Lucy x Wyatt) and Garcy (Lucy x Garcia Flynn) because everybody wants to keep the fandom looking squeaky clean and wholesome and marketable, and having a huge ass ship war is just bad for everyone if it means the show is canceled forever. Twitter seems to be more vocal about Lyatt, but tumblr has a solid Garcy fandom generating some powerhouse content (qqueenofhades is a GOD, oh man.)) I would LOVE to see your thoughts about this fandom, what it's done, maybe talk about the ships, and make people in your audience maybe more aware of the values the show holds (exploring hidden figures and moments in American history, along with love, loss, original scifi content that isn't a reboot of another show from decades ago, and found family.)
I like she-ra a lot and pretty frequently go through the tags. I have yet to see any sort of conflict except with a weird Voltron rivalry??? No inter fandom hate but weird anger towards it sometimes? I am not totally sure and could be wrong.
I only frequent AO3 so I've never been exposed to the toxicity of the fandoms I've liked over the years. It is kind of sad that people feel the need to impose their views, instead of respecting each other and accepting that not everyone has the same taste or preferences, which is more than ok and at the end of the day they love the same show.
I wasnt really interested but was having one of those days and netflix had it front and center and i just went with it... OMG I LOVE IT!! XD Catradora from freakin' ep one had me hooked, that scene of Catra curled up at the end of Adoras bed just sold me and i could resister that cuteness... So of course throughout the whole i binged in one sitting there were ups and downs and by the end i love how it all worked out thematically and storywise... but i fear Catradora wont come about soon or cleanly... id love Catra to pull a Zuko but shes in firm Azula territory right now and not sure my shippibg heart can recover~ (there better be another goddamn season T3T) Though to say, i wound up loving some other ships as well, netossa and her boo (i cant remember her name) were sweet since the moment we saw them in the background, Bow and Glimmer are just... so... derpily precious... and im hoping for something from Entrapta and Emily (machines need love too~) but i have to say my OTP (aside from the obvious main pair above~) is Mermista abd Seahawk... the dry snark is strong, i love it~ I dunno what to do with Scorpia, i love her, shes adorable and i wanna hug her but ive got no idea how all this shipstorm is gonna toss her derpy adorableness around... Ill just have to wait and see~ so far it seems well encapsulated abd im more interested in seeing where it goes from where it left off, as a writer this leaves me very little wiggle room to fiddle with, its just good on its own so far XD
I personally ship Kyle and Bow, but I don't think it's set up to happen. Plus after the ending Voltron gave us I'm afraid of DW queerbating in the rest of its media.
Can you do an exploration on the bts ships? I am a bts fan and I would love to see your take on them! To me I ship them because they seem like fictional characters to me since they are so far removed from my everyday life. Plus one feels like they know them. Though I must say that I wouldnt mind if they decided to have girlfriends or boyfriends. I would support them no matter what. PS I think I will check She Ra out I have seen it floating around and it seems interesting. Also Catradora seems to have all the checkmarks of a fan favourite so...
Just offering my opinion: I'm okay with fics where stage names are used, because it kind of splits the real person apart from the character they play, but I'm a bit iffy when the two names are used interchangeably.
If you're looking to look at a smaller fandom, I suggest 2017 Marvel's Spider-Man (it's on Disney). It's a smaller fandom with some stuff on Tumblr, AO3, and RU-vid videos. There was also alot of backlash at the show, saying the animating was bad, and the characters were "unrelatable," but the fandom itself is pretty healthy about shipping.
I love the show so far at the time of me watching the show I don’t have any ships I don’t know if I am not looking for ships or because I’m catching up with my siblings who are younger but in my personal opinion I feel like it’s very different from Voltron where I’m not looking for the ships I want to see them grow or it could because I’m older and when season one of Voltron came out I was around the same age as Lance and or Keith so I was still in there I love to ship everything phase and yes I still ship but I’m so busy with other things that when I sit down to watch She-ra for enjoyment and not for looking for subtle hints and hoping they end up together and I’ve kind of grown out of that too well I still ship yet but I think in my personal opinion right now my views on she-ra is it is super good it shows girls that they could be princesses but they can also be strong and that was something that I never got to see as a child I saw strong men but never strong woman and seeing my younger sister look up to these women to be strong and not just in this show but in any show like Voltron or anime or anything that shows strong women doing what they want. Showing her that she doesn’t have to just be pretty or just be smart she can be both and succeed in a world or society that tells her no
I am verry much looking forward to a Catradora video (as its slowly taking over my life, which oretty much means that I would like more fanfiction authours to get into it) And Adora has been popping up all over my sketchbook, as have Catra shaped blobs The fics I happen to need the most are longer more complex Shera fics, given that right now the fanfictions tend to just be 1 chapthers As far as I've seen Catradora and Glimmadora fans arent butting heads and most of the fans seem to be multishippers, and are actively pushing for no ship wars and minimum discourse (many of them seem tired of fandom wars, mostly coming from the Voltron fandom) The main controversies are still between fans and non-fans, instead of within the fandom. Generally, I just didn't expect to love the characters so much (you could say I adorA them) and I can't day for certain the last time I was this invested in a protagonist, and definetly recomend it, as I definetly enjoyed it
I ship pretty much 90% of this cast with each other. Catradora, Glimmadora, Bowtrapta, Mermista and Bow, Mermista and Seahawk, Bow and Perfuma, Entrapta and Perfuma, EVERYONEEE!!!!!!
I became a Fan of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE... @ FRESH OUT THE WOMB. My interest as a true fan of He-man & She-ra is the progression of the Stories. The values, the heroics, & like Superman they are not Gods. They are beings of Great strength , Courage , Character, Leaders of justice & truth. Lovers of peace that will fight & defend Good through out the Universe. That is why I am a fan. That is why I follow these stories so close... I understand appealing to a new generation.. But I believe these should always be their core values!
