Janet Jackson is criminally underrated. Globally she was bigger than Prince or Madonna, but her influence goes uncredited. A lot of Bollywood dancing was inspired by 80s Janet & of course, MJ.

I absolutely love your reaction to this video. First let's be clear Janet is and will always be THE QUEEN OF DANCE. All these dancing chicks from Beyonce, J-Lo, Ciara, Britney Spears, Normani, Teyana Taylor, and Aaliyah have all said Janet has always been their inspiration. This is the video that put the stamp on being the Queen Of Dance. Like you said Janet don't need backup dancers she can do it all on her own and be even more captivating. Please continue to do more Janet. Try "I Get Lonely", "Control", "Miss You Much", "Rhythm Nation", "Alright", "Feedback", "No Sleep", "Doesn't Really Matter." There is also an interview with Barry Lather where he explains why they edited it the way that they did. There was a crash mat on the floor due to how high up she was and it wouldn't look right. Plus the slow motion added to the mystery of it.

My favorite video of all time ❤️❤️❤️ Just Janet, painted on jeans, a fierce beat, unmatched choreography (she is still the ONLY person that can do that chest roll!!) and a backflip… the things legends are made of. Janet inspired so many. I can’t tell you how many times as a young girl I tried to learn this routine…😩😩 Not one of these “artists” 😒 out today with all the T and A they show every time they get an itch… comes close to this. Yep. She is amazing. Hate her or love her but it is undeniable that she is a bad azz performer. Definitely the greatest female performer of our time. Many of todays artist are compared to her and Michael but when they was on the scene, they wasn't compared to anyone because they were the first of there kind. Now it is hard to be original because Janet, Michael, Madonna and Prince has done it all.

I think people today looking back at the '80s often overlook Janet Jackson. And even back then, she was frequently overshadowed by her brother Michael. But she had some awesome hits in the '80s and '90s. I listened to her entire Rhythm Nation 1814 album just the other day and it is still a banger.

This is her raw and just going in, but she has soooo many creative videos and hard hitting songs. She is a legend and icon and stands in noone's shadow. She paved the way and kicked open the doors for a whole lot of black female pop stars for the past several decades. And her first 2 albums are underrated but she had some jams on them too. But Control was when the formula was perfected. There was no stopping the Janet bullet train of hits after that.

Janet had 2 albums with her father that didn't do very well then she got her freedom and came out with Control. Prince wrote What Have You Done For Me Lately & gave it to her producers, Jam & Lewis where were in his group The Time. She lit it up! She is still very much loved by millions & proved that her career was not due to Michael's. She inspired so many female artists and is still Amazing now in her 50's. She was also years ago the first female artist to obtain a multi-album $80M deal.

A gorgeous, overly talented young woman. Singer, song writer, dancer and choreographer by 18 years old. There will never be another Janet. How did America express our pride and enjoy her as an icon? We threw her under the proverbial bus and blamed her for indecent exposure at the Super Bowl. Music executives ignored Janet like the plague. If Ms. Jackson was labeled promiscuous what the heck title did Madonna win?

She DID the backflip. Dominic Sena edited it that way cuz 1. That's his style to do alot of clipping. 2. There was a crash mat on the floor due to how high up she was. But she also did a backflip in Nasty and also the 1987 Grammys. She had a spotter cuz she had high heels...but YES...she did in fact do the BACKFLIP.

Janet had to prove herself, especially when she had the mega superstar named Michael as a brother.she was a child actor in the late 70s, and started making waves in the early 80s. The mid 80s(which is when this came out) showed what she was capable off. The whole Control album and Rhythm Nation album set the foundation. The Janet album in the early 90s solidified her as a superstar almost on the same day as Michael.

This was always my favorite song from her. I remember this video being new! She's the only singer I can put on and not get sick of. I loved all her hits, except Black Cat.
