she's going to the butcher

One of our cull cows is going to the butcher today, but can we get her loaded onto the trailer? Afterwards, we pull the trailer up to the pig pen and get it ready for loading pigs. Dad & I finish installing the quick attach onto the 656 tractor and 2000 loader, and I test it moving compost. I give a tour of the newly-completed chicken house, then we put away the turkey ark and fencing for the winter. Finally, it's time for a dinner of grilled burgers and hot dogs to complete a long day.

I have to apologize to you. I had a preconceived opinion that anybody who drives a sweet animal to a butcher is cold hearted. Yet after watching your videos, you and your family have the utmost respect and kindness for your animals. I tip my hat for what you do and wish you and your family nothing but the best 👍

Another great video! Thanks. Just one comment..... that trailer..... I have two suggestions. A. Buy a couple of gallons of Rustoleum paint, some paint brushes and rollers and have your kids paint it over the winter or B. Go down to the local High School and see the Art Teacher. Propose a contest for the art students to come up with a mural to paint on the trailer along with a "Just a Few Acres Farm" logo. Pick the best one then have students paint the trailer. Buy them a couple of Pizzas and let them have at it!!

City slicker my entire life, but I cant get enough of these videos. I now buy Dexter meat from a small family farm similar to yours outside of the city. I buy a lot of ground beef each time, usually 25 lbs., and get a discount. It costs more than supermarket, but it definitely tastes better because it is grass fed only.

Your family is so fun to watch. Ever think about allowing one or two people to come work on your farm for free? I'm thinking like a week visit and they might even have to pay you for the experience. Having these farm helpers would give you more content for your channel too. I'm out here in Oregon, grew up on a cane berry farm spending hours on both the International Model B along with Massey Fergusons and Ford tractors. I love watching your channel because I've lived this life and do miss it now that I'm retired and living in the city. Any-who just an idea that people would love spending time on your farm and if they came with skills to that would be huge plus!

I twist the tail of cattle to get them moving if they are stubborn, as long as I have their heads in the right direction. It has been 20 years, but I never had problems with loading pigs. I just walk everyday with the bucket of their food and walk different paths to leave their food in different spots at different heights but where they easily get to it. If you leave their food on the same spot, they expect it there everyday and will not go through non familiar spaces. When I load them in the trailer, I walk the bucket of some food into front of the trailer and they get on, while I exit by the small front door and then close the back door behind them.

ok look at it this way then, the other option is the let it grow old and die, that means suffering for a lot longer than they do at the butcher, and news flash evry thing dies. But as he seaid in a previous video the animals have at most 2 bad days on the farm, they are well taken care of.

There is an island in Alaska that was seeded with cattle long ago. The intent was to let them roam and then harvest. Island in heavy in fog and the cattle have become wild and not harvested. From the stories I have heard they have become lean, protective and die of old age. Assume meat would be like moose.

If you go the upper hole on the loader, you will get a greater dump angle with the same length of stroke on the dump cylinders. You will not have the same load over height - it will be less but you don't load high sided trucks/trailers that I know of. I would check with your dealer but I think there was a higher flow pump for the 656 - you might also have them verify the relief valve pressure is where it should be. Some were marked on the end hex. I enjoy your videos - glad to see the old red iron still being used - takes me back to my early career.

Trying to visualize by pointing my index finger (hydraulic arm) horizontally on the edge of a ruler and sliding my thump (main arm) downwards the ruler (bucket) seems to tip down, I would give it a try anyways. Given enough clearance it would also seem convenient to add a hole for the pin further to the bucket side to get it tip even further. Greetings and keep going.

The cylinder pivot and arm pivot holes need to be closer together for more range of motion on the bucket. Measure the old bucket brackets and I'll bet they're closer together than the forklift. The holes are farther apart on the forklift brackets for more leverage.

@@JustaFewAcresFarm I took the message from Don Covay better than Huey Lewis's more popular in America version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TCnPxGuqbiM.html Reading through the RU-vid comments on the song. Though by an American artist the song was very popular in the North West of England due to a phenomenon known as Northern Soul. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_soul All this is probably as dull as dishwater to most of you Americans but explains to me why I know the tune and lyrics of a relatively obscure American song.

On my old Paulson loader on my Super C the top pivot has a long horizontal slot to allow the pin to slide forward and backwards at the highest tipping point so the bucket can tip forward and dump the bucket at the 80% point, then as the loader goes down it resets back . You would have to build new plates on the top pin bolsters to cut sliding pin slots and cut them a little at a time till you get the geometry right for the tipping point.

I have a pin on my round baler that I put a nail in when it broke in the field. When I had time I put the correct pin in it. Next time I got to the field it broke again. So I field fixed it with another nail. This happened to me twice. So finally I just said I am going to leave the nail in there. That was probably 5 or 6 years ago. Still going strong. Not sure why the pin breaks but the nail doesn't. But not going to change it anymore

Pete I'm so glad your wife didn't have to get in that virus nightmare as a nurse. She is a blessing to be strong enough to be your partner. Your dad looks like a true gentleman also. I think what You have is such a blessing that was earned by you. What kind of tractors did your grandfather have? Did they make a living on just the farm? I've watched your videos on how you built the farmhouse. I've watched at least 3 times and used your advice on a few fixes on my house. I think you daughter will became a VET, she and your son are so caring and giving working with the animals. The work ethic is what is missing today, but I think this will change. Have you heard of the veggie boys ? They have mentioned your name before. 14 family members work on 400 acre farm they do silage in the huge bags, are you sure those are not biodegradable? If you did something with Andrew I bet both of you could grow quicker. Just an idea. All the best, keep up the great job , America needs more positive thinking and growth that you provide. Neal
