When you step into a vital role like helping your friend who's a single parent with their child, it can be easy to step into that parental role depending on how much you're helping. I believe the friend really thought she was helping, and was just hurt that she allowed a man to step into that role that isn't the girl's father or isn't guaranteed to stick around

NGL, this is the type of problem most people WISH to have: someone caring about them too much. The mom probably feels overwhelmed because she's dealing with so much that any type of help feels like an attack. You can't have a friend help raise your baby for years and then be surprised that she feels a motherly connection. She's financially involved, involved in disciplining the child. I feel like the line has been crossed for a long time. If she and her boyfriend don't work out, she's going to go right back to having her friend play a huge role in the child's life. They're both good people though.

This is wild. Both of these young ladies need to take a step back and look at this through a different lens. When I divorced my daughter's father, she was 4 years old. The woman he got involved with fell in love with our daughter. She didn't have children of her own. She was supportive and always loving. After 5 years, her father and the woman broke up, but she continued to spend time with my daughter. We became closer and friends. We didn't hang out together, but I trusted her. She bought clothing, took her on cruises and places that I couldn't afford to take her at the time as a single parent. I didn't feel offended or jealous. I was so thankful to have someone who loved my child and exposed her to so many wonderful experiences. I found love again and remarried. I didn't cut off their relationship. There is enough love to go around. My daughter is an adult now, with children of her own. She loves me, her father, the woman she refers to as her godmother, and her stepfather. Love can be a beautiful thing when we all work together in a healthy way❤❤❤
As a ACTIVE & REAL God Mommy. I’ve been in my God daughters life since she came out. It’s HARD to accept certain things or want things to be done our way. Especially when you feel like the second mom. As much as we love our God babies & want the best for them, we have to learn & know when to take a step back. Give grace & let the bio parents be parents. They’re gonna make mistakes, it won’t always be perfect but nobody has a rule book on parenting.

It would be asinine for a child to go to a person they don’t even know. To answer your question, I don’t babysit, I parent with her bio parents. Us personally, we have a schedule. She’s with me every other week or every weekend depending on the month. Even my parents are her God-grandparents. She knows her “GiGi” is her second mom & you can’t tell her any different. She’s only 3 but she calls me on Wednesdays & says “Lani go to GiGi house on Friday” lol.

Hopefully her and this dude works out, because she sacrificed her friend, and most of all, her help for him. The friend was getting a little overzealous, but that tells me that the mother was fine with her taking that role before the man came along. That type of involvement doesn’t just happen overnight.

White people understand that the Godparent will take guardianship of the child once the parents die. What the friend was doing with her god daughter was amazing. I would love for someone to love and take care of my child as much as I do. Godparents are literally 2nd parents. I get having boundaries, but saying she’s just a friend is absolutely insane.
Unpopular opinion but I dont think thebfriend was wrong. Youbwas in a bad place and you put her in a parent role to help her out and then snatch it away when she got a man.
I mean, the mom got in a better place, whether the man got her there or not is irrelevant. Exactly! She stepped up and helped her with the most important aspect of her life when she was struggling, her child. That’s type of support is priceless. That gave her time to get her stuff together. She chose to meet a man during that time, and that’s her business. But the support she gave her and wants to give with her baby is more than enough. It’s not her responsibility to house her. Her help with the child gave the mom support mentally, emotionally and physically. I don’t think at this point it’s so much about the friendship to her, it’s about the relationship and bond she made with the child. And she’s probably feeling unappreciated and will step back. And friend will come running again when she hit another rough spot. B/c obviously her family isn’t that involved if she’s homeless and struggling with a child. But it’s not right or fair to use a person when you want and use your child as a pawn for that help. Then take the baby away after the relationship and bond is there. Doing photos with just her and the baby is normal in families where the support system is strong, there are fs pics of me and my auntie dressing alike when I was a kid. it doesn't mean she was trying to steal me from my mom lol

When the GM said the first time she met the baby the baby was with their other mutual friend who had come over to do her hair and she later saw the mom at the beauty store instantly knew she was in the right. That girl used her and the love she had for the baby as a life line when she was struggling and never complained about boundaries for multiple years, now that she stable and in a good place all of a sudden she wants to revoke the privileges she was more than happy and relieved to give the GM.
Obviously she (mom) don’t understand what “Godmother”means. She’s doing just what Godmother is supposed to do and that’s care for the child at all times, especially when the mom is homeless and experiencing lack. The mom needs to be careful with men around her child especially these days.

She is a horrible Godmother. Playing dress up, photoshoots without the other parents permission, and pretending to be the Mother......is not being a Godmother. A Godmother has two functions. Raising the child if the parents die, and to raise the child like the parents would have. Naiya has zero respect for the parent. She needs the title stripped.

I don't think she should be the Godmother because the mother doesn't know how to handle another woman being a better mother than she is. The godmother probably makes the mother feel insecure about her parenting skills. So, The God mom just just be a friend and thats it. I wouldn't ask about that child, I wouldn't want to babysit that child, I don't have any input about how you raise your child, I might come to your child birthday because you invited me but I'm not going to just pop up with gifts. Any little special thing she does for that child is going to be taken wrong. It's going to come off as if she overstepping her boundaries. But if the mother was to die, god forbid, is she can trust her daughter with the God Mom the god mom is still going to have to do the same as she's doing now and that's build a bond with that child and nurture her.

My cousins were basically my sisters for three years. We all got the same whooping, same foods, same quality clothing, same chores - no issues. As for me, I don't whoop children,but you will stand in that corner and reflect on what you did, but I really think people's love is so conditional that love and trust is non-existent.

I think the god mom raised the baby more than the bio mom, she's not attached to the mom she's attached to the baby. It's a little to far to bash her and tell her to step away from the baby who she stepped up for when the mom wasn't in the best place, i feel there's things the god mom didn't say outta respect for the mom but there's definitely deeper issues than a 15 minute segment on a show.
It’s very rare to have that kind of support in modern times. I understand her apprehension about her friend’s bf. I also get the mom’s feelings. We gotta remember to ask loved ones what they need and how we can help instead of assuming we know what’s best for them.

Me and my godmama are closer than my mom but that’s because she was there for me more emotionally than my mom. It had nothing to do with her doing her job as a god parent, it was due to my moms actions (prioritizing men all my childhood) that we’re so close to this day
One thing I think would benefit this episode is for the two young ladies to separately write out: What does it mean to be a god mom. What are you not willing to do. What do you need from me when things are good, bad, and beyond bad. Clarity around the roles and expectations. Some god moms spoil and smother and are the moms right hand, while others only come through in times of strive and crisis. Some are in between. It also feels like mom is learning to find her voice and it will be an adjustment for everyone. This child is truly blessed to have the circle of support. In terms of the photo-shoot, it was a miss for mom to not be invited. In terms of boundaries- it’s a huge pivot to all of a sudden feel like you not wanted when times are good. I hope they can find a balance:

Especially not caring whether or not the mom can afford it and how it would make her feel, as a new mother...who was already facing homelessness (which she cared nothing about)...the baby is only 1 and post-partum can last for a while ....the friend needs her own child(ren). I mean, I was taken in by my godmother when my mom went upstate for 7 years so I know what a real godmother looks like. She treated me better than her kids (which my godsister and I were just talking about yesterday, because that was traumatic for her and felt weird to me).
I think that she just knew I had it a bit worse than her children and didn't want to mistreat me, in the process, it made my Godsister feel less than...on the other hand, I was lowkey jealous of their relationship...my mom wasn't around and I felt like she didn't love me enough to not go to prison.
