I agree. I love Kelly and think she can sing anything. But there are so many great covers of this. Personally, nothing beats Sara Bareilles singing it. She sings right into my heart every time
She didn't rehearse the song with her band, they arrange the song and they didn't play it together, she obviously knew the song, but to sound like this on the first try it's amazing. And Sara Bareilles agrees with it in her tweet.
She commented in an interview that she learned the song on the fly and actually had someone directing her off-screen; she did see the dancers practice so she had an idea of the rhythm/movement needed. I think she learns her karaoke songs during hair and make-up (roughly 10 minutes of prep).
I love Kelly. I think she is the best singer we have here in the US. My favorite, however, is Morrissette Amon from the Philippines. She truly has no equal today.
Kelly is one of those rare singers that has the ability to make you feel the lyrics. The fact that she had never heard the song and was able to connect with the lyrics so easily is amazing. I have seen Kelly live three times and it is an incredible experience.
My favorite version of this song until now was Shoshana Bean’s version. However, Kelly just knocked her down to the #2 spot. Sho, Sara, Allison, Kat, Jordan, they all sing their own versions of Jenna which is great for the musical although let me be clear Sho still blows ALL of them out of the water. Lol My point is that Kelly is not a broadway star and she DID THAT! She sang her own interpretation, that I believe is more radio friendly, and just killed it! That high belted note was everything! hi Elizabeth! 👋 yep, good lord Shoshana just embodied the soul of that song! I wish I could've seen her and Jeremy Jordan when they both did Waitress but Kelly's 'non-broadway' version is just amazing. I'm gonna assume you've seen Kelly's version of It's Quiet Uptown from the musical Hamilton. That is still one of my all time favorite versions of that song. Her Kellyoke's are so much fun to watch hehe 😊

I was actually in NYC the last week Sho was on and I totally missed it because of work commitments and on the only day I could have possibly gone I went to support my friend’s one woman show. Super bummed about it till this day. Kelly’s version of It’s Quiet Uptown gutted me! It’s so good! I love how versatile she is, she’s so vocally gifted.
to me, Kelly's take on It's Quiet Uptown was just so heartfelt and the simplicity of it with just a piano and her voice is just powerful. And having seen the original song in the musical and where and how it was sung in the show, I think her voice and version matched the lyrics and the song's message perfectly. Not to mention she seems like a really down to earth and fun person all around. i still gotta go see her sing live though one day hehee
@@MakeoJames Agreed. It’s so hauntingly beautiful. If you get the chance to see her live i totally recommend it. She’s amazing live, she sounds better than her records. It’s unreal and such a treat. You should check out her Nashville Sessions for her last album Meaning of Life, I promise you will not be disappointed.

All the songs on her talk show are shortened (once she has an hour soon we will see if that changes) but she learned this arrangement and song MINUTES before singing this. Its amazing, full body chills. I also believe she has done some musical theater and opera even.
You should check out Morissette Amon's rendition of this song during covid lock down ...it's her stages sessions...plus Mori just arrived in L.A. to kick off her U.S. tour...she's 25 and from the Philippines and can sing anything !! MORE MORI !!!
