17 more year?!?!? With the proof?!? Humanity is sickening. To all the little boys that eventually grew up after being touched by that man, I hope you have found peace and happiness.
It is a dictatorship with a military regime, what did you expect? There are many things that never saw the light of day, so what can you do with the government against you?

read on wikipedia... its even worse... the colony still exists ( since 1989 under different name and apparantly now more "open") and german goverment even knew about everything but did nothing....
I know it's always a hot topic on whether or not first world countries should help stop corruption and oppression occurring in foreign countries or if that just creates more issues, but it's this type of situation that makes me wonder why no one helped. Think of how many people were raped and abused here even though everyone in the world knew what was going on in that camp. Honestly super depressing to contemplate.
This movie was from 2015 so she isnt 30 yet but still i get your point. She still looks the same after a decade but tht just what happens when you take care of yourself. I mean its more apparent with actors ofcourse since their appearance is literally part their job.
Yes, she’s very lucky like that. Of course a consistent good diet and healthy lifestyle has helped a lot - but can’t deny good genetics. Despite her young looks, she is very mature and educated though. She’s really one of my favourite actresses!
As someone who is a true crime junkie I don't get shocked to know people like this in the world exist. What surprises me is that most normal people are denial about such violence existing. It now makes sense why violence in countries or homes are so easily swept under the rug.
Most of the people look at the world through a " pink lens ". They refuse to see the reality. The possibility your neighboor, your family or your best friend or a coworker could be doing such things to others does not enter their mind until it is too late and the cops are asking about a victim. It is easy to look the other way in order to live in your " the world is a safe place " bubble. And most of us are lucky to traverse it without seeing the horrors happening on the daily basis. It is pure stupid luck.
@@fullmoon5799 in the beginning. Must I say that in the late 90s, a lot of victims of child rape by Paul Schaffer (Pius) went to the media and fought to have the atrocities of Colonia Dignidad brough to light.

I just realized that Americans don't know about South American history with dictatorship. It was extremely brutal and if are interested it's a big part of Latin people's culture.
Maybe because if they teach it in American schools, Americans will be forced to admit that USA messed up a lot of these countries’ politics by helping them overturn democratic/communist into dictatorship government themselves.
@@thinkforyourself2109 some groups are communist (extreme left wing), some are extreme right wingers fascists like the neo nazi one in this movie. The common theme is authoritarianism
@@99txgh I quite agree. The horseshoe theory of authoritarianism is that far left and right extremisms end up the same. They're indistinguishable at a certain point. A more accurate distinction is between state authoritarianism at one end of the spectrum and individual liberty tending towards libertarianism at the other. True conservatives are for small government. Nazis and Communists are both for big government through totalizing ideology and force. It's in the Nazi name: "National Socialism." This evil cult/ commune above is exactly how both Communism and Nazism work, but on a micro-scale.
@@thinkforyourself2109 You are aware the the 1973 Chilean Coup (the one depicted in the film) was supported by the CIA (who helped orchestrate it) to overthrow a democratically elected liberal socialist government right. How could could possibly blame communists for this when it was a collaboration between a deeply capitalist country and an authoritarian right wing military Junta to overthrow a socialist government, which led to the persecution of Chilean leftists?

That pilot literally had their lives in his hands. And the fact that this movie is true. Right after the atrocities of WW2. Jesus Christ this planet sucks ass. No wonder Aliens don't visit us.
The pilot named Roman did the right thing to get both Lena and Daniel out of Chile to bring them to safety. I'm pretty sure he knew that those evil people serving that bastard Shafer would have chosen to kill him too if he hadn't chosen to have the courage to disobey the flight cancellation.
For anyone wondering: "Based on true story" means pretty much that, while the cult, all the people aside the main characters, the antagonist, the crimes on and on are real. The main characters are fictional, which makes the whole film and story fictional. I think the end pretty much shows it very well.
I got about a minute into this video, and my interest was immediately piqued so I stopped it, and watched the film. Just finished it. Very good. And educational, as I had little to no idea just how bad things were in Chile.
yeah in the 70's,US atacks all of south ameria left countrys from whitin and well, chaos in politics allow this kind of shit to happen, Actually in the last 3 weeks (im from chile) the news have been talking about how in the dictatorship of pinochet the state kidnapped and sell babys from public hospitals to be adopted in sweden
yeah and we still live the aftermath of the dictatorship of that era. We have a presidentatial candidate who negates this kind of things happened, i mean WTF
I wouldn't have been born of Pinochet's rule didn't start faltering at the end because my dad left Chile to come to Brazil for a better life and met my mother there. Everytime I asked my grandmother about how life was under Pinochet, she refuses to go into detail. Chilean people's wounds are still open, I fear
I wish this film had a cinematic release or more promotion upon its release. Honestly Emma Watson’s best performance in my opinion. I understand people find her wooden but she did so damn well in Colonia. Chilling film, I was on edge the whole time.
As a chilean i can confirm all of this and the fact that we are still fighting this same war and that many childrens, women and men were indeed abused, tortured and dissapeared to never be seeing again, on that and many others camps

The problem with these "based on a true story" movies, is you never know what was inserted based off of here say or is straight made up by writers to make the story more interesting, idk, if this was real, its sad what being physically weak in comparison to someone else can allow them to do to you. One riffle and she could have ended years of abuse and torture for dozens of innocent people. But violence is scary , so we run from it.

@vlntn by the way, people were dieing of hunger when Allende had the power, so a lot of people had to change leave the country, he also expropriated a lot of companies making the country more poor and generating more hunger (there are a lot of books/old news that talk about how workers were complaining about the treatment they had when Allende expropriated) I am not defending Pinochet, he did a lot of bad things, but Allende is not good either.

Being a first gen American hispanic... really hurts. I visit El Salvador quite a bit during the summer and I feel a close connection to Central America. It pains me how much the US has either ignored the pain of others or used it for their own benefit with no regard to the humanity in the people they hurt.

Capitalism is actually the very reason the world is UPLIFTING from poverty. You wouldnt be online without it.
Kind of tilted reading more about this and I found out the initial military revolt/scenes were fueled by none other than the USA :( I think it was part of operation condor which was a CIA's operation aimed at exterminating communism in South America. I do know that the operation caused mass disappearances (los disaparesidos) throughout South America. However I'm fairly certain people did not even really know about or care about communism back then at least in Argentina. Anyway operation condor ended up being labeled as a means to kill dissidents, not communists, and the CIA proceeded to kill totally innocent people for their opinions, it was most common for them to be university students, they would fly over the rio de la plata and throw the students in with their bellies cut so they would sink. Dear USA politicians, fuck you for what your doing, what you did, and what you are planning to do.
In Chile communism was big, it still is, before 1948 were they became illegal, they were among the biggest political parties at the time, and even after they still were, they just changed their name but people knew it was them
They did that kind of thing all over the world where they had vested interests, then left the country way worse off than they found it after they couldn't (often literally) bleed anymore out of it and its people. And, yes, all under the guise of 'freedom' and 'democracy'.
