It definitely isn't common for employers to call your parents if you miss work. However, most employers ask you to provide an emergency contact when you first get hired. I think Jennifer must have had her mom as her emergency contact. She must have made a memorable first impression on her new boss & he must have felt she wouldn't have blown off her new job unless something happened.😞 Thank you for covering this case! I always look forward to your videos each week.

In America we give our employers an emergency contact - basically someone your boss can get ahold of in case they think something may be wrong. Jennifer likely put her mother's information down for her emergency contact - I do the same! When people get married, their partner is often written in as their emergency contact :)
@stellamary204

We do that too in Australia, but it's odd on her first day to go to such great lengths . Good on them though.

I’ve never heard of this case before, I love that you always bring RU-vid cases that many people haven’t covered, yet. As for the employer calling a parent if their kid didn’t turn up for work in America - they may have had the phone number since most companies make you put emergency contact information on the application? That’s how I would think they had jennifer’s mother’s number. I don’t think companies usually call someone’s parent(s) if they don’t show up for work, but I know when I was younger (probably before I turned 18), I had a job where I “no called, no showed” by accident (I looked at the schedule wrong and didn’t know I had to work that day), and my employer did call my mother lol. So I’m not sure!! But anyways, your makeup looks beautiful, you are beautiful, and I love your channel. Keep up the great work, babe!! ❤🫶🏼💟

It's not necessary common to call parents but if they are concerned for some reason they will call emergency contacts. My brothers boss is actually how we found out about him passing. The second day he didn't show up to work without calling he sent a couple people to check on him. He lived an hour away from the rest of us and was going through alot that he just kept to himself. He passed from an accidental overdose and that was the last thing any of us ever thought would happen to him. He hid it well.

I've had a job call my mother when I didn't show up 2 days in a row due to an ER visit.. I was 21 at the time, very thankful they called her so she could inform them what happened! I would've been fired otherwise for not showing up. I think it shows a level of care and compassion for workers. I was very close with my manager so she felt worried that I never called in to let her know I wouldn't be showing up. I wouldn't say extremely common though.

You bring the best (or worst) stories to life. And as far as where the gun came from...they are in Texas and he was a drug dealer. On a personal note, my brother was murdered in Texas, by his wife. She received a sentence of 40 years and a day. We were told adding that day on the end meant she would have to serve the whole 40 years. That turned out to not be true.

I think the men at the law firm really liked her and knew how excited she was about it, she probably said I will absolutely be here!!! And probably made them think she would literally have to be dead to not show up. This is so sad. I went thru 9 years of addiction and I know how bad I wanted out and an opportunity like that would have given me so so so much hope. It's so sad she didn't live long enough to be the person she knew she could be.

I am genuinely shocked with the verdict in this case, considering how Texas is known for harsh sentencings an their no BS approach on crime…very sad case…🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

No employer would call your mother if you didn’t show up at work in U.S.

They might if she was emergency contact, and no one else answered.

I was going to say they definitely might and that’s the point of an emergency contact. Especially if they felt she was so responsible and excited to start the job

🇺🇸 You DO NOT have to be missing for 24 hours!! Why do cops tell loved ones that nonsense??? 🤬

🇬🇧 Same is true in the UK. If your loved one is missing for any amount of time…if it’s out of character…the police should start a missing persons investigation!!

Yes it's pretty normal in the US for employers or soon to be employers to call an emergency contact even if we haven't officially started work yet. We usually give that info before or on our orientation day.

In Canada we have to give an emergency contact. Most likely Jennifer used her Mom. Yes if I just didn't show up for work and did not answer calls my employer would call my emergency contact.

Texas State is a HUGE party school!! Much bigger then “most” colleges. That is what Texas State is known for verse degree programs etc…. It says something that she chose to leave… calling the “emergency contact” is common here in Texas. We care about y’all!

Most employees are required (or heavily advised) to provide an emergency contact. In my first management position we had a team member we believed to be in a domestic violence situation and my upper manager wanted to file a police report for a missing person. We weren't able to but she did call her EC which was her husband unfortunately and got no answer and we also did a drive by of her house together. Just because we cared. Def not every employer will go to such lengths but there are a lot of fail safe things like that in place in America
@ZaraV
@ZaraV Год назад
Oh okay, that makes sense. And wow! That is amazing of you and your manager to go to that length ❤️

I don’t think it’s common the company hiring to call parents. They just move on to the next candidate they like. So this isn’t common in the USA

It’s odd that the employer sent someone to her apt. That’s weird and I hope no coworkers ever show up at my door! I’m surprised they didn’t call her mom before going through all that trouble. I’m guessing she filled out paperwork asking for an emergency contact.

Maybe not "common practice" probably more like a vibe. He knew she wanted it and wouldnt have missed and something happened. Ive had employees stop showing up alot, but I had one girl who expressed her appreciation for her job and was very good, she gave a "this will be my stepping stone" vibe and was speaking to me about how and what she should do to move up in the company. She didnt show one shift. I just had a feeling, so I called her emergency contact and they called for police to do a wellness check. Her ex husband was holding her hostage in her place...Sometimes it's just a feeling. Also I'm sure her mother was her emergency contact on her application, so that's how he had that.

Its common in the UK for employer to call whoever is down as emergency contact. My boss has my husband and mum's number as my husband doesn't get signal at work. If I'm late and they can't get hold of me they will call my husband first and if they can't get through they will call my mum. Its happened in the past that an employee had a heart attack and that's why he was found as work got the police to break his door down. Here in the UK your employer has a duty of care xx

I wouldn't say it's overly common for parents to be known to work places but at my place, we do have next of kin registered for emergencies as far as I'm aware. We had an experience regarding this recently (a sad one and potentially triggering). A colleague was due on a call, she didn't log in and hadn't logged in to work. Her manager was worried as it was unusual and after not being able to make contact she did actually contact her parents. This was also due to the colleague suffering from fits. Sadly, her father went to her house just to check on her and she had actually passed away from a seizure. She was 6m preg as well and only 25. I probably didn't need to add context but yes, here in the UK some employers do have next of kin info. This was recent and her funeral is this Friday :( please say a little prayer or send healing vibes to her family. I wasn't even close to her but it's awfully sad. Although nothing could be done, I'm proud of my employer/her manager for recognising something wasn't right and making that effort

A law firm that goes to someone's house to check on them? Wow. I wanna work for them. No, it's not common for them to call, but we add emergency contacts to our applications.
