I remember as a kid the separate water fountains and the "No Coloreds Allowed" signs. I thank my parents for teaching me tolerance. In college, in the '70's, one of my good friends was black, and would do anything for you but still had to deal with bigotry. He went on to be very successful in his job. On 9/11 he was in one of the towers. He got out. Unselfishly he ran back and saved over 40 people but unfortunately lost his life when the towers fell. He was a true Titan.

The thing that is not being said was the impact the Titans had on all the surrounding communities. People from as far away as North Carolina and Pennsylvania traveled to watch a High School football team. I was 11 yrs. old at the time and got an autograph from Redskin running back Larry Brown and New head coach of the Washington Redskins George Allen who attended Titan games. This winning atmosphere traveled across the Potomac into Redskin territory as we watched our beloved SKINS march all the way to the Superbowl in Jan. of 1972 against the undefeated Miami Dolphins. Miami won 14-7. But we had beaten the defending NFC Champion Dallas Cowboys 26-3 which was good enough for me.

This classic movie holds a special place in my heart because I knew all the real people the movie depicts. I was a senior at T.C. when those events happened. Some old-timers don’t like the movie because it takes great liberties with the facts, but most of us love it because it is great drama with an important lesson. Julius died five years ago after spending many years traveling around the country, giving inspirational talks on race relations. Some truths and untruths: Alexandria was not a southern hick town but a cosmopolitan, metropolitan suburb of 110,000. T.C. had been integrated since 1965 and at the time of the events (1971) was 30% Black. Hammond (Yoast’s school) had just two Black students because it was in the rich end of town, and G.W., in the poor end, was 60% Black. Race was not the main issue at T.C.; school rivalry was the issue, due to the merging of the three schools. Boone was not new to the school. He had been assistant coach at T.C. for two years preceding the events, and he was my P.E. teacher in his first year, when I was a sophomore. I liked Boone a lot and had a good relationship with him even though I was not a football player (I was varsity cross-country and track). As most people know, Bertier’s first car accident was not as shown. It actually occurred after the season, but the movie changed it for dramatic purposes. T.C.’s hardest game was not in the State Championship, but in the regular season, 21-16 versus Marshall. T.C. had 9 shutouts in 13 games. I saw all the regular season games. Oddly, the team’s best star was not in the movie; he was a running back who led the state in yards and touchdowns. Yoast was one of the best coaches in the state at the time, and there was widespread resentment over Boone’s selection as head coach. It is true that the training camp at Gettysburg transformed the team, and students were marveling over it when they came back. Boone was a hard-driving coach as depicted, but he had a great heart for the game and for his athletes. Singing among the Black athletes (including some basketball players) was a longtime tradition at T.C, usually done in the locker room. The players were allowed to wear their jerseys in school at any time, and they actually acted as a calming influence as depicted briefly in the film. I witnessed an incident where a player used moral suasion and school spirit to stop a fight that was starting. My favorite true thing in the movie is an event I witnessed: Ron Bass’s arrival. It actually occurred at T.C. in the first week after training camp. I was with the cross-country team, warming up at the end of the track straightaway. At the other end, a fancy car drove up the ramp from the parking lot and onto the track. Everyone was amazed; cars weren’t supposed to do that. Ron (with very long hair) and a military officer in uniform (his father) got out of the car and talked to Boone, who had stopped practice and came over to them to see what was going on. Later we learned that he was a hippie quarterback from California. He was terrific, both a fine passer and a great runner. He played much more than was shown, and he always kept our opponents guessing. Bertier was a great success in the wheelchair Olympics in the shot put and discus throw. My brother met him once in the gym in those later years, and they played ping pong. Bertier won, because he was excellent my brother says.

This one of my favorite movies! The soundtrack takes me straight back to high school! 1971-72 was my sophomore year at OKC Millwood. Because of “white flight” most of the kids I had started kindergarten with there had left. (No busing as Millwood was an independent school district) My sisters and I were among the few white kids in a majority black school, an experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Our parents believed in racial equality and lived that value by refusing to participate in the white flight and by being active in Millwood parents organizations. My sisters and I got a front row seat to the reality of discrimination because we saw it happen to our friends. Our dad is 96 now and still lives in the house we grew up in.

I haven't watched this movie in 20 years. It still matters today, and always gets me in the gut. Denzel is legendary. I hope that people can keep on changing. Hope. I guess that is what this movie is really about.

One of my all time favorite movies of any kind. LOVE this movie. Having great coaches in sports can be a life changer just like having bad ones can do the same. I was very fortunate to have some great coaches. I got to play for the late Tom Weathers (very well known in our area, state championships and all) in high school. Great man. Great coach. Miracle, The Natural, saw We are Marshall in the theater.

The cutting edge is an 80s early 90s sports movie with a romance element about the Olympics. Remember the Titans is a good sports movie for sure and I’m glad y’all finally got to watch it on the channel.

This movie always reminds me of growing up in a small So Ga town. They didn’t de-segregate school buses there until 1986. My parents always kept me in organized sports and activities with all other students. The Navy wasn’t a big adjustment for me because I grew up with different friends, different coaches, different teachers etc… People talk about the dynamic between Julius and Bertier but the progression between Yost & Boone was more impactful IMO.

Absolutely love this movie, and the fact that it's true story. A few other great true sports stories are: "Invictus" - Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as a rugby coach aim to unite their team and their country. "We Are Marshall" - Rebuiling the universities football team after a devasting plane crash the killed 37 players, the athletic director, 5 coaches and 2 trainers. "The Mighty Macs" - Basketball coach of a tiny girls' Catholic college that has no gym sets her sites on the national championship.

Football is my religion. Has been for almost six decades. Old school was my beginning. I remember everything about this time. And what we had to work through it. And remember the Titans is one of the best football movies made. Outstanding cast, outstanding script. The Goosebumps the adrenaline. If you were not touched in some way buy this movie you are not human. When I started coaching I made it a requirement to watch. And always got positive feedback from every one of the boys. Even years down the road when my boys became men it enters into our conversations every football season. And we will always remember the Titans.

Great selection guys. With the Olympics 10 days away you should react to “Miracle”. I know, I know, it’s is a hockey movie but it is one of the greatest inspirational movies out there. It tells the story of a group of college kids coming together to beat the 4 time defending gold metal Soviet Union hockey team. I promise you that you will not regret it. USA!!USA!!USA!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

No, it isn't the same game. Marshall University is a college in Huntington, West Virginia and was the school whose football team was nearly wiped out by the devastating plane crash in 1970. T C Williams was a high school team from Alexandria, Virginia and their opponent in the state finals was Marshall high school located in Falls Church, Virginia.

I love this movie. Back in college I had a managing class where the teacher NEVER gave As to anybody. The final assignment was to take a real life story to demonstrate how good leadership can lead to team work that gives good results. I chose this movie and took snippets from it for each leadership characteristic I wanted to exemplify. I got an A. 😁

I’m a graduate of TC Williams class of 1977. I remember Coach Boone but the players featured in the film had graduated by the time I got there. Football was the best sport going back then or should I say school sports were the best thing going. I had the best junior and senior years ever. Even if this film was not filmed at the actual school but to me The Titans was represented real well
