I just acquired this pen and am so impressed! Maybe it's because I mostly have plastic or celluloid pens, but I love the heft of this pen and also enjoy the cushioned section. My M nib is so smooth. I bought this in a lot of pens, but it seems worth more than people seem to value it.

Have you seen the Sheafer Icon? I’m tempted to try a Sheafer pen but I’m afraid their fine nib would not be fine enough for me. As one who loves my Pilot EF pens , Sheafer may just be too broad.

You really won’t like any western EF nibs if you’re used to Pilot’s nibs.

I've tried one. I found the step too big between the cap and barrel. The metal version reminds me of a over sized battery.

Hi Rob. I have to confess I don't know the Sheaffer Award. I believe this is the first time I've seen one. I know some Sheaffer pens have the white dot. Is that because they have a lifetime guarantee? The Award doesn't have the 'dot' so I presume it would have come with a fairly standard one year warranty? The design is quite plain without much decoration. My main concern is the rubberised grip section. I would worry that with time the grip section could become tacky or sticky. Hopefully my concerns are unfounded.

Hi David, the rubbery section is a concern of mine, but i have 2 of these pens and they must be at least 20 odd years old now, and there’s no sign of this becoming tacky yet. I recently learned about more serious aging problems with some vintage Parker pens. I guess that when you’re dealing with any “plastic” vintage items, there is this type of risk. White dot Sheaffer pens have a lifetime guarantee, the others do not.
