I have a feeling you would have loved doing my sheep. 22 ewes and 2 bucks, all hand raised and all convinced they were labradors. When the youngest buck, Bambi, would get sheared he'd just melt against you. Literally had to push him back on his feet and smack his tush to get him to go away. Always saved him for last, because, ya know, cuddles.

I have two and we used to load ours up and take them to the neighbors sheep farm when she had her "many more" sheep done. Now I just shear them myself because shearers don't regularly come out for one or two "pet" animals. Also, from personal experience these ladies are MUCH kinder to the animals. When mine were done professionally they had cuts and nicks everywhere. Everywhere. They were sprayed with so much medical spray it looked like they just came from a hospital instead of like nice new sheared sheep.

My husband does graphics lettering on emergency vehicles. He designs, makes, and installs the lettering on site which usually works out to 12 hour days, also. The thing he hates most is unpacking his stuff when he gets home. By then he’s hot, tired, and ready to just sit down in a nice cool chair. The dog and I usually go out to help him unload, talk to him about his day, bring him cold water to make it a bit easier. He’s been doing this since 1982 and keeps saying he’s ready to retire but I know he’ll die with a paint brush in his hand.

If it's a felted together double coat from matting. . . . it's not too far off, but shearing works faster on it than clippers do. However the lanolin is the best part. The lanolin mentioned that sheep produce is what is used in lots of hand creams and such so when you are holding the wool off to one side to get it to fall or your fingers go through it. . .you are basically putting your hands in moisturizer and sometimes I need to wipe some off. When I groom my dog, I am adding more conditioner and more spray leave in conditioner.

I love to see the animals get relief, and it's nice to see how you treat the sheep. I hate the rough way they are handled by many shearers out there. It's not an easy job, but you make it look easy! Thank you!!

Watching from the Scottish Borders coast, toasty with my hot water bottle, enjoying watching you work and live. We have Hebridean sheep in farms around here. Very hardy!

I grew up on a farm, and shearing day was always exciting. It was so satisfying to watch that wool just roll off the sheep. Our shearer must not have maintained his blades very well, because every sheep had multiple wounds when he was finished. I love watching you two make it look so easy and without all the blood. 😊

You lovelies are AMAZING. This is how all shearers should be. Compassionate and loving. I'm getting my lot done tomorrow and I'm always nervous. I love my babies, they're all rescues, so have been through a lot, but it's flystrike season. About the hair sheep being mix breed, we've had a bit of a disaster happen here with our dorpers. We rescued 2 merinos last year and when they got rung one of the testicles must've gone back up and now I have 2 very pregnant dorpers with lambs that are half merino, he's been properly castrated now 😭. We won't be making that mistake again.

I never thought I'd be so enthralled by sheep shearing. And I'm just watching the shearing, not doing it. You're amazing at it and it's so satisfying to watch the wool peel away in one big blanket 😊
