Now THAT’s Film Noir. Many movies are erroneously described as Film Noir, but this is the real deal. Very 40s. Excellent story and script. June Vincent makes an excellent Femme Fatale.

Jack Val I don't know where to begin. First of all this wasn't a B movie; this was a C- movie at best. The writing was awful and every performance was completely wooden. Not one single spark of real human emotion; just strung-together clichés. A plot that makes little sense. Characters cut out of cereal box. It was what it was-- a cheap B movie made from a dime store novel. The set and costume design were good.😋

A father, a second wife, a son from a previous marriage, financial desperation, the quest for truth and a private investigator obsessed with fives who walks a line between ethics and avarice, murder, fraud and betrayal. do you see what she said guys???? "I hated the way you let me push you around!" Learn a lesson from this. it was true in 1948, 1848, 1748...AND IT IS JUST AS TRUE IN 2015, no matter what you have been told. this is the way women ARE, they can't help it, nature made them that way. that is why they test you constantly to see how much CRAP you will take. most guys think you win this game by taking the most crap, so she sees how much you like her and would do anything for her etc. actually, you win by taking NO CRAP, as counter intuitive as this seems. i am sure most of you won't believe it and ALL the females will insist this is false, but it's true.

It’s a dark and sordid story all right, but has the stilted feel of a ‘30s crime pic way more than a noir. And it’s hard to tell whose acting is the most wooden. June Vincent has opened up an early lead. The private eye talks like Snagglepuss... so over the top (certainly entertaining). Another distinctly un-noir element is the music, at times tracking the action step by step. Most importantly, we have here the banal evil of stick figures, we are nowhere near the dark depths of the complex human heart the way we are in noir. More and more convinced this pic doesn’t belong in the genre.

Not a bad flick. We could all think of Lots of improvements. I was especially glad that Hollywood dropped the comedy relief so prevalent in prior years of WWII (to soften the war efforts). With a few Tweaks here and there - this could have gone down as a Classic. But instead, we got a really decent scenario with decent acting and filming. It was the general direction and what seemed to be a bad case of misunderstandings that caused the movie to begin slipping.

Why do I get the feeling that every character that elisha cook played had ever had a happy day in his entire life? Jack palance baits him in Shane and sends him to perdition in a muddy street. Humphrey Bogart steals his 45s from him and marches him into his bosses office to embarrass him. And in the killing his cheating wife is leaving him for another man. He was a wonderful actor. Completely underrated and unappreciated. Rip elisha cook and thank you so much for making my childhood memories unforgettable.
