The bloodlines of Afro-Cuban jazz and Nuyorican Salsa royalty come together in this dynamic quintet led by trumpeter Pete Rodriguez and saxophonist Carlos Averhoff Jr. Averhoff, born in Havana, Cuba, is the son of Carlos Averhoff Sr., the legendary saxophonist and member of Chucho Valdes’ Irakere. The younger Averhoff, who trained in Cuba’s top music schools, is a virtuoso in his own right and blazing his own trail as a celebrated contemporary Afro-Cuban jazz composer. Rodriguez, the son of renowned salsero Pete “El Conde” Rodríguez and godson of Fania Records bandleader Johnny Pacheco, cut his teeth backing up some of the greatest names in Latin music, including Celia Cruz, Eddie Palmieri, Chico O'Farrill and Bebo Valdés. Now, as a bandleader, Rodríguez is drawing on these experiences to take his critically acclaimed brand of jazz in exciting new directions.
On Oct 3rd, Averhoff and Rodriguez will share the stage for the first time as bandleaders in what promises to be an exciting evening showcasing their unique blend of the best of Latin and jazz traditions. The two will be joined by Ethan Ditthardt (guitar), Raul Reyes (bass) and Alex Souris (drums). You won’t want to miss it!
