Nice Job! Often we have to innovate to find a solution to what doesn’t otherwise exist in exactly the way we like.

Nice jig setup. As a print shop worker with near a decade of experience, I have some thoughts on improving the processing steps and three redesign suggestions... Also, one more thing after those... First a process suggestion, place the seams of the sheet music, in collated order, on either side of the jig. You can improve your speed of placement if you simultaneously use both hands to pull one sheet each onto the block. If you play fast and loose, you can even put the collated piles directly onto the block instead of grabbing for each pair as needed; however, you can run afoul of two things, a small gap forming along the tapes centerline adhering to the next sheet or, when pulling the joined-seams off the block the sheets below might cling together and become askew and need readjusting every time. Second process suggestion, don't cut the bottom tape pull a little less tape and just wrap it around the bottom edge. Redesign ideas: 1) Implement a "drawbar" styled solution which requires one push to release both clamps. 2) Integrate a tape cutter and lifter into the drawbar so that when pressed down to release the clamps, the tape at the top is cut and then the start of the next tape piece is made readily accessible. 3) Place an inclined "outfeed" table above the tape dispenser. Have it angled down and away from the user at least 15degrees off of level, so the user can pull from the bottom of the joined seams and flip them face down onto the outfeed table. In my experience, it's a shorter throw in time and distance for the competed pieces to be flipped up and back than pulled up to be moved out and over. One more thing, since you've applied for a patent, you may be interested in hearing my complete overhaul of your idea with less parts based on your jig and this commercially available machine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E3vRXwMilIA.html If you are interested it'd be easier to draw a picture and share it via e-mail than write several paragraphs... plus patent pending available publication mumbo jumbo if you felt like using the idea. Let me know if you're interested.

Hi Jim. I really appreciate your input. Have to admit, I am not following what you are saying 100% as it is out of my wheelhouse. On the other hand my goal is not to make a booklet. What I want to accomplish is a simple straight order accordion type setup that is normally done in the recording industry by awkwardly placing sheets on a desk and simply taping the seams on the front from odd to even pages and on the back for even to odd pages. This keeps the music from sticking together in the orchestra book. I will be shooting another video with more detail about what I am trying to accomplish. I really like your idea about adding some kind of cutter rather than the utility knife however the utility knife (or razor blade) has been the tool of choice for decades. Also I wanted to add that it's not clear in the video, but I have a spring-loaded divider that keeps a little bit of space between the pages. The tape goes right over it as the divider retracts and pressure is applied to secure the tape to the paper. Here are a couple of videos illustrating what I am trying to accomplish: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LLZmw2WZ0wk.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JymkiBDF3IU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OYuda9tPBR4.html

I'm not sure why the algorithm brought me here, but this looks to be a problem best solved by an 11x17 printer that would have accomplished this task in around 8 seconds.

That only partly solves the problem. 11 x 17 folded in half, gives two pages of 8.5 x 11. But if you look at the video, the paper size I am using is 9.5 x 12.5 which is standard for professional recording and live performance ensembles. With 11 x 17, if the part has more than two pages, you still have to do a certain amount of taping. On the other hand, thanks for the input.

@@billfultonmusic Interesting. Watching with no background it wasn't obvious it wasn't standard sized 8.5x11 paper. 11x17 would indeed not get the job done in that case. Still seems like an incredible amount of labor even with your device. Does remind me of something my grandfather would have built. Good luck to you

Excuse me! I can't find video with tittle "Sheet music and music part taping machine". I think that device can use with a adjusting book scan cradle for tape book binding.
