Tim I live right next to Crookes, I live in private rented accommodation but it's beautiful & peaceful because I couldn't get anywhere off the Council. I live in Crookes would sometimes say Crookes is like a small village

Hale Court, at 1-21, was originally St. Luke's church. The road running off at 7-54 is Mulehouse Road which leads up to Crookes Club where you did your dancing. The first road on the left off Mulehouse Road, just above the garage, is Tasker Road where Joe Cocker originally lived. The tram did run over Crookes and the terminus was about a quarter of a mile further down the hill from Hale Court, on a short stretch of flat road between two sharp bends. There was a tram shed on Pickmere Road, which is the closed-off road directly facing the camera at 15-29. When the tram system closed the site was taken over by the Corporation Recreation Department but is now given over to housing.

I always thought of Crookes as middle class, at least from the 80s onwards. I used to live on the Manor and from Manor Top and down through Norfolk Park while on the 71 bus, I could see towards Crookes and always wanted to live there.

Interesting fact about the Grindstone, there is a mysterious 'snow line' there. Snow will settle far easier after the grindstone towards crookes in the winter. Must be a specific point of altitude.

Really chuffed you've covered Crookes. We used to live in Walkley and definitely agree very different vibe. Walkley seems dark from being in the shadow of the hill. Crookes a lot brighter although breezier and more snow. More vibrant. Wesley church has always been that. Lovely to have a lot of independent shops. You captured where Jarvis Cocker used to live, near the early bar( butchers back in his day).

Do you know, I've lived in Sheffield my whole life and never once visited Crookes....or Walkley.😒🤔

A lot of side streets in walkley have been blocked , creating rat runs .they give priority to cyclists

It’s just Crookes , never been called ‘high street’
