You’re a wonderful teacher. And let me guess... you are not speaking in your native tongue, right? Excellent communication skills in English. Gratitude!

Muchas gracias Señor de Miranda. I'm a shekere maker and player from Chile and your videos have inspired me very much to retake this beautiful instrument. I would really love if you could show some more afrocuban rythms with the shekere in further videos. Greetings.

Muchas gracias, Aroldo! Traditionally the Yorubas brought rhythms with shaker to Cuba, but nowadays the shaker is also used in more modern rhythms in Cuba and also Brazil. Greetings!!

More shekere! How fun! Excellent video Michael. I agree with you that the natural gourds sound much better than the fiberglass (and I prefer glass beads to plastic beads on the gourd). Regarding the tightness/looseness of the skirt, I have found it useful to thread an adjustable cord through the bottom part of the skirt so that degree of tightness on the skirt can be adjusted to any desired level.

That first shekere you played had a great base
@MichaeldeMiranda

Yes, that is a great shekere. The net is a little bit too loose, so you have to work a little bit harder... but the tone is great!

Hello Michael. Could you recommend any online resources for finding good quality natural gourd shakeres? I have one I really love but the tone is mid-range so I'd like to get a really good natural gourd shakere that is much larger and deeper tone. Thanks

You should ask Stan Corpus from Pacific Coast Percussion. He has big shekeres: pacificcoastpercussion.com/

Michael de Miranda ...if it's anything like the way you play Shekere, I'm eager to hear! You opened my eyes to how some familiar sounds are achieved! Próspero año nuevo profesor! :]

It can be that there is only one video. Is there a rhythm or something special you want to learn? Just let me know and I will look into it. And thank you for joining me on Patreon!

@@MichaeldeMiranda well I was thinking you'd have tutorials on how to play the shekere like this one. I'm starting from scratch so I just need the basics...

This is great, thank you! What size/shape of Shekere would you recommend for beginning? By the way, are you dutch? Ik hoor het in je accent :)
@MichaeldeMiranda
@MichaeldeMiranda 3 года назад
Ja, ik ben inderdaad uit NL. Tja, om the beginnen zou ik niet met een hele kleine shekere beginnen. Maar belangrijker is dat het netje niet te los er omheen zit. Dan moet je hele grote bewegingen maken.....
@eskervandewerken9431
@eskervandewerken9431 3 года назад
Super goede video trouwens!
@percussionplayalong304
@percussionplayalong304 3 года назад
