Shelby GT350 DSC Magnetuner Install and Feedback. After 420 miles on various roads and speeds I was not happy how the DSC unit made my car feel. I later installed the BMR Handling Springs with the original Mag Controller and Love it. Check my video out on that here.

Thank you for your review and feedback Auto Fanatic! It seems you may have an older version of firmware and calibration file on that DSC Sport controller which we have updates for both! The latest firmware is up on the website but please contact us at your earliest convenience and we will hook you up with the fixes!!!

As a DSC owner for over a year, I have more than a few comments, though given the fact that you aborted the project without a single attempt to adjust anything the subject is really moot. Nevertheless I will attempt to set you straight. First of all, the out of the box suspension calibrations, a year ago, sucked. The car porpoised so much it was almost undriveable on certain roads. Since you purchased your unit there have been two major firmware upgrades. The most recent upgrade enables shock velocity tuning. Velocity tuning requires that first the static ride height be set, a process that takes ten seconds. Since you never even connected a USB cable to a laptop you obviously never upgraded the firmware, let alone enabled the velocity function or attempted to tune the system. My car has achieved all the goals you set. Normal mode is more comfortable than stock, Sport feels 300 lbs. lighter, and Track is awesome yet streetable. It would have been great if the original product was plug and play perfect. It wasn't, so it was up to dedicated enthusiasts to do the job.

the issue here is DSC said my unit was the latest upgrade based on serial number and i even sent it back, still the same issues so yes it was not worth it in my opinion to be a test mule to figure this out. I just do not have time to dedicate for this on a street car. More development should have gone into this offering and so many guys took a beating selling them after having the same issues. Kinda not cool to do to customers these days.

Please verify the firmware to make sure you have the latest version. It is possible that the unit sat new in box on the retailer's shelf for months or maybe even longer and hasn't been updated. We recently posted a new firmware update. We also have a calibration file to firm up the damping commands. Sorry you spent time driving without the updates.

i think theres miscommunication. www.dscsport.com/firmware/ GT350 had a firmware update 1.5 weeks ago. Unfortunate since Id really be interested in a properly tuned DSC controller review.
@65sohc

As of today there is new firmware which, among other things, eliminates the issue of the error message when switching quickly between modes. Velocity tuning is also improved. There is also a new calibration file that I can tell you, without fear of contradiction, has been EXTENSIVELY tested and refined. I can GUARANTEE the new firmware/software package is plug 'n play. Obviously DSC is aware of your negative review. I would contact them and ask if they would loan you a controller so you can see for yourself and then publish a fair review.

i would love to try a new box and do another review if it will work right out of the box. But now my car has BMR springs wonder if this would pose an issue?

11:10 yeah I did that with my coils. I was so slammed to the ground my tires were rubbing it was a nightmare. Got them fine tuned after 4 alignments and adjusting little here little there. It was the best purchase I ever made. SO stiff for corners and the ride was too but I loved that. Great video so detailed even though I am four years late.

The issue with the dsc controller is you don't know what you're changing. The software does not give you velocity in lbs per inch. Instead you just get "target %" of the shocks capacity at a particular acceleration. Which makes it impossible to know what you are changing from and what you're changing to with regard to shock forces.

I’m looking into buying a used 2016 gt350. What’s your opinion regarding the magneride. Is it a must? Or I won’t really feel the difference between one equipped with magne vs one with regular shocks? It’s only for daily driving no tracking.
@autofanaticcars

i never drove a Gt350 without the Magneride to give you honest feedback, your best bet is to find both and drive them

"So if you connect the plug backwards you lose xyz and it feels like a lincoln town car and it does all these terrible things and maybe I got a defective unit" So you connected the unit wrong... and then gave a review of how the car drives when you don't connect the unit properly? What?

the unit was not connected wrong these units SUCK which is why everyone sells them after trying them. these should come programmed to perfection not the way I got mine

My experience is exactly the same. Upgraded firmware and the error messages stopped but the car is miserable to drive. Porpoises is exactly how I describe the ride now. My daughters base focus inspires more confidence. Going to try the file updates too but out of the box it’s not good which there really isn’t a good excuse for - custom tuner or not, a base level tune this atrocious is really poor business practice.
@65sohc
@65sohc 6 лет назад
The original calibration was just as you guys are describing and rendered the car undriveable. The current cal is based on my car and I think you will be pleased.

@@MrDaviddannunzio I can send you my current tune with an updated velocity table. Have you set your ride height? That is mandatory in order for velocity to function.

@@MrDaviddannunzio @DavidDan. Wondering if 65sohc's suggestions get rid of the porpoising ? I'm afraid to pull the trigger on the DSC Magnetuner if it doesn't improve comfort in street mode and performance in Track mode.

I know what you are talking about with the rear end, I hate that with a passion when A/M springs are installed with standard shocks or cheap coilovers. On the DSC you aren't the only to be disappointed with the box. Some have had success, but few. It can be tuned, but unless you plan on doing numerous track days, most people I've talked to have yanked it off. Good luck …..
@autofanaticcars
@autofanaticcars 6 лет назад
yeah for the cost of this i was seriously expecting it to be ready to go out of the box, kinda like an ECU tune for the engine. It would be easier for me to tune real coilovers than this system i bet.
@robertsole9970
@robertsole9970 6 лет назад
These were big in the 911 world for a while but interest in it seems to have waned a bit. It’s just too adjustable for most people. All those tables and values makes you really go chasing settings. I work with tables and charts of data fields all day, when I’m off work I’ve no interest in laptop tuning. But that’s just me.
@autofanaticcars
@autofanaticcars 6 лет назад
i totally agree, i think this idea has potential but they need to get cars in their development center and truly develop proper maps that customers can feel out of the box. they are a very small company which is quite common in the aftermarket
@allankozich4815
@allankozich4815 6 лет назад
The DSC is still used in the 911 world and we have great results with it. And with a pro tuner they can create custom maps if you install stiffer springs and/or coilover conversion kits. Autofanatic seems to give up too easily on products that don't meet his criteria.

@robertsole9970
@robertsole9970 6 лет назад
Sam Constantino, factory engineers can get things right when the bean counters allow them to. Aftermarket tuning is not always better. I’ve had cars and bikes that I modded with things but a few times went back to the OEM parts when the aftermarket stuff had no support or was just plain worse.

I thought about doing springs, glad you like the BMR springs. My best mod so far was the Forgeline wheels. They are lighter and stiffer, car feels so much more nimble, thought the DSC controller would really compliment the lighter wheels, is a shame there programming has issues,
