I was able to squeeze out a 10.9 at 112mph in my 17 ZL1 (6spd) with only a CAI and Cat Back exhaust. The "no lift shift" and having R888r tires really make a HUGE difference.
Camaro needs a driver. No prep for run, totally relying on launch tech and looks like a missed gear on the first run, again, no prep of tires for either, Camaro spun bad all runs, great reaction, but that’s it.
and also the 1LE struts are horrible for drag race. They are super stiff. You can clearly see it at the launch. The front doesnt go up at all. Watch all the other cars at launch, the rear gets pushed down and the front upwards by the power and the softer suspension. Thats a huge advantage and gives alot of grip, especially when its needed the most.
it’s really hard to take a 6-700hp car down the track & expect good #’s out of it.. withOut a nice set of drag radials.. they just won’t hook, with that kinda power!
@@ThruTheWire2 yeah, they should’ve got mid-low12s on street tires.. but get some meat on the back, if you really want it to hook & show you what the car is really capable!
Where is this track at? These cars are goin SLOW. My Bone stock Manual 6 2016 SS PB was 12.4@115mph. Even with that, I knew i left time on the table. this.. this is brutal
IM THE DRIVER in this video it was my first time racing lmfao but I got slicks and ran low 11s lmfao the Camaro had stock tires they weren’t hooking in this video u can see the car always spins and kicks obviously a lower hp car will spin less on stocks reason why ss ran faster
I miss the days when gearheads built their street race cars instead of buy em'. I grew up in the 60s -70s when so many factory cars were wrenched into beasts! Just my IMO ✌
I agree with you there man but today the tech is so much better than it used to be so just because somebody buys a 650hp crank camaro doesn’t make it a street car or even a track car today. Today if you show up with anything less than 1000whp your getting drug and even then your probably getting drug so 650 crank running 14s is not considered race anymore. Yes a while back hell even in the early 2000s that was decent but today it’s just a normal sports car level. Also compared to older cars these newer cars are much heavier so more power doesn’t matter when you weigh more. Can never replace the golden era of muscle cars 60s and 70s. But you got to admire what they have done with the small block v8. Their still wrenched into beast today my friend nothing changed that just happened to be a novice in a store bought muscle car with no knowledge of drag racing his own car. I do my own wrenching no shops not quite as old as you but never the less the principles still stand.
A ZL1 should NOT be running a 14.4…either something is wrong with that particular car, or it was a very lousy driver, or both. I run high 11s in my 2SS. That ZL1 should be running low 11s or better easily
Exactly. I had a 71 Camaro in 1978 while in high school. Did most of the machining and prepping in Auto Shop and the rest done by a speed until I assembled the motor. Put it in hooked up everything with my buddy and raced it on Wednesdays in Northern California at Fremont Raceway against the valley guys. Just had a catch can.
Haha! Neither can drag race for sheet! I ran 11.50 in my stock ZL1 first pass at the dragstrip on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S’s at 26 psi. 😂 GT350 won’t beat a ZL1 stock to stock just fyi.

>Factory tune-up Dude... production cars can never be tuned. Firstly they can't account for everyone's taste and style. But more importantly they're made to last a long time, and any type of tuning does the exact opposite.
The mustangs will always be top dogs compared to dodge and Camaro . I like the zl1 and the corvettes , that’s all I like from Chevy. Y’all can throw the rest of the models in the trash
Only because GM didn't want the Camaro as fast as the Vette. So they kept the same horsepower and torque every year while Ford added more hp with each model
@AnkhsZL1 but it's been proven that Gt500s will beat any Vette today now. I will say it is real close though with the C8 mid engine Ferrari and Ford Gt with little Lamborghini Vette looking. Seen way to many races on the Gt500. It's crazy fast. Why Dodge built the last Challenger with over 1000 Hp to beat it. I do miss the older looking Vettes. Style was great. Now they keep copying other manufacturers designs. Guess can't beat them join them.
@@brycenklinkowski5721The Red Camaro with the tall black spoiler is a ZL1 1LE. Look at the hood with the engine peeking thru. It’s a ZL1 1LE that the driver can’t drive.
Yall chevy diehards are hilarious.. me personally am not a single manufacturer guy but the gt350 aint no punk car..now if there was professional drivers in each car the camaro would have won IF the gt350 was stock.. but do we know these cars are stock?..
Bad driver bad setup for drag. I haven’t been a supporter of Chevrolet for quit some time now. The Camaro was an absolute disappointment in it design. No innovation with it and damn sure no upgraded models like for had with the GT350 and GT500 for example. You can’t tell me they weren’t capable of coming up with something so much better. Just look at the C-7 Stingray, Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1 as well as the C8 models. The problem is they didn’t want the Camaro messing with their mighty corvette which is why they axed every other sports car GM made such as the Trans Am the SS G8, G8 GXP just to name a few. Yes they have the Cadillac CTS-V but like the Corvette Cadillac is treated as its own brand however they don’t want any other product to compete with them. They want to build a single engine and add horsepower each year through nothing more than a modified tune in the computer yet charge more money for it so that means they have to start pretty low to begin with so they have room to upgrade. It reminds me when Buick built the Grand National GNX and they’d smoke the mighty corvette with a turbo V-6 and it really pissed the GM executives off and the next thing you know the Grand National is no more. They killed it for that very reason along with the Buick Turbo Regal. Sorry GM when you build a car such as the Corvette and then claim it can beat a Ferrari or the Ford GT then build it so it will actually beat them every time and not by just a few inches one race and then lose the next 3. Also find new engineers to design your truck line as well. Used to love the Chevrolet and GMC truck line.
