@@cameronpinfold564Is McDonald's part of the hospitality industry? 😅 (kidding). I worked there at 17 in '93 -'94 on Long Island. I first heard that phrase there and thought it was so stupid 😄
@@FeartheCyr611😂 Well, we can safely say Sheldon isn't lazy and doesn't eat other people's food. But it sounds like your autistic roommate's behaviour is at a result of upbringing though. Some parents with autistic children don't teach them dos and don'ts. I've seen an instance where a parent just allowed the child to blow off someone else's birthday cake because he wanted to and he wasn't stopped.
Towards the later seasons though, Leonard became unnecessarily cruel and whiny. He did a lot of things that you shouldn't even do to a normal person not to talk of Sheldon.
@@curiousgirl478Sheldon refused to change and despite that Leonard still acknowledged him and did his best. Everyone has to have reach a point of getting fed up with it especially since they were roommates for a long time. Thats very human for Leonard tbh. But he still deeply cared for him and Sheldon does feel safe around him and he also worries for him especially when he had his surgery and when he went on an arctic expedition.
The only reason the creators said he wasn’t autistic is because they didn’t want to make his friends look bad for treating him badly sometimes because of his behavior. But my whole family, every time we watch we always say, “He’s so autistic.”
the creators in general didn't want that responsibility. same deal as bert and ernie being gay. the creators didn't have that in mind and wouldn't know how to write that, however there's a peripheral
Leonard should have left Penny's apartment when Sheldon was cleaning. Then when she got mad he could honestly say he had nothing to do with it and he tried to get Sheldon to leave, but he wouldn't. Leonard shouldn't allow himself to get sucked into Sheldon's plots.
I am autistic, and I have ADHD, and am exactly like Sheldon. My autism was misdiagnosed as OCD. Many still think I may have the latter, but I don’t, I purely believe that each diagnosis has significant crossovers. Me being a ‘female Sheldon Cooper’ was used as an insult against me throughout my teenage years, but I’ve since embraced it. I rewatched TBBT recently with my boyfriend, and he gave me side eyes the entire time.
Oh my, I'm autistic, ADHD too and among other disabilities, but I wasn't bullied for it until my adulthood, for them acting for attention, misbehaved, clever, mister knows it all, the list goes on, due to having around 140 IQ level but also like as a disabled, and cannot do what someone with no disabilities with high IQ, can do, also by growing up in a battlefield and had too many traumas throughout my childhood that kids should NEVER see until adulthood. Oh if you haven't notice I'm dyslexic!
@@philipgibbon4473 I was bullied for the traits that I exhibited - early on, my peers weren't aware that it was Autism and ADHD. I owned it, and openly talked about it in my final year of high school. I'm still called a know it all by others at university, and people still whisper whenever I put my hand up (which is often). I have a high IQ as well - mine is 152 - and experience the same thing. I am capable of high level thinking, but I lack common sense and situational awareness. One would also think that I score 100% in every assessment I complete, but I don't. I do very well, but I either take questions too literally or begin to over-analyse them.
The vitamines scene at the store made me question something about Sheldon's character. Everyone says he's sarcasm impaired, but what if he's not? What if he simply assumes that people are so stupid that they could naturally do dumb things like buying too many vitamins and then pissing most of their benefits away? It is, after all, a known blind spot of Sheldon that he has many preconceived notions on several topics : the value of certain professions like engineers and geologists, the nature of women, etc.
I mean those two lines of thought are not mutually exclusive....he could literally not understand they're being sarcastic and that they're actually that stupid. I mean I sometimes ask questions people think are me being stupid or being sarcastic even though most people don't realize that what they're asking wasn't actually straight forward and has at least two different interpretations. I've met A LOT of people like that
A person could be at the same times made very sarcastic /rude comment, said it out loud to people, felt being funny himself AND blind to people emotion. Especially those who only care of themselves. In the case of Sheldon, he's a fictional character and the writer made it even more clear, to the point of irrational sometimes. The Young Sheldon character's behavior looks more logical, the kid didn't make as much rude comments as he blind to sarcasm.
@@renestuder515 That stuff is usually associated with autism, so it doesn't make sense for the creators to not think he was autistic in the first place.
I’d say I’m slightly like Sheldon but not as socially awkward; this is coming from someone who’s a high functioning autistic. One of my best buddies fits Sheldon almost to a T.
The creator of big bang have said that Sheldon is not on the spectrum. It’s just his behavior definitely does look or seem similar to characteristics in autism
I'm pretty sure they only deny it because they don't want people criticizing them for offending autistic people somehow. People are so soft these days, it's no wonder that creators avoid labels like the plague.
I always found funny the last clip about the tampons because they have a shelf life of anywhere, depending on brand, between 3-5 years because of TSS. So even if she were to buy them in bulk she would need to restock every 5 years 😅
@@FDroid01you’re still gonna use period products post apocalypse? Period products are a scam society has convinced men and women we need because periods are “gross and unsanitary” Imma be free bleeding post apocalypse
Even if the writers didn't want to 'seclude' Sheldon;'s traits to one category of people (autistics) for probably commercial reasons, it IS pretty obvious he was autistic.
I love Sheldon so much that when I got my French bull dog I called him Sheldon lol I know the character Sheldon would be more than likely insulted by it, but there is nothing more cute ❤ he even responds to moon pie 😂😂😂
"What mental illness does Young Sheldon have?" ... ASD " Since Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder, the symptoms must be present in childhood. Through narratives and the spin-off series “Young Sheldon,” we know that this criterion is also met in Sheldon's case."
Bro if Sheldon isn't autistic, i don't know who he is. Sheldon has such a special relationship with Leonard, I don't know what he would do without him. Edit: IM AUTISTIC DW
That nod at 18:06 has got to be one of the greatest in sitcom history. And then followed by, "even you, you are a slave". I don't care what anyone says, that shit was iconically funny. After all these years, that scene still makes me cry with hilarity. And kudos to Regina King for not going all woke and bitching about a scene in a sitcom.
That was hilarious 😂 The woke part is really this scene but it's also so relatable because he's basically like a huge 12yo. It was the nod and smile at the end for me though. 😂
When Sheldon insulted the wall climbing guy working, I would REALLY have enjoyed the guy replying that "I own 30 of these, and make $250K a year, how much do you make?"
the funniest thing about this is the scene where they're at the movie theatres is how my best friend is XD there was once she looked visibly uncomfortable and I just looked at her and said "I'm sitting in your spot aren't I? I can move over if you want" literally it made no difference to me and she was able to actually enjoy the movie XD and the funny part? I'M autistic and she's not....although she has OCD so that might be where that comes from XD
The difference is that for you and your friend it was probably a one time thing. With Sheldon they have to accommodate him all the time. This obviously isn't the first time it has happened. And Sheldon was being very rude and intrusive by barging in on Leonard's date. Leonard's note just told Sheldon he went to a movie. It was not an invitation for Sheldon to hack into his computer to find out what movie listings he looked at and then track him down to join them. And then to make a scene with his ridiculous auditory testing or the theater and finally to invade Leonard's space by nearly climbing into his lap.
So many people have no idea they’re autistic, I kinda like that the creators insist he’s not. Two reasons: I like that it’s jokes instead of pushing that he’s normal and can’t change. I like that it’s not labeled because often people don’t want a label.
It's also kind of insulting to those who have autism to say Sheldon does. Perhaps he shares some traits, but I don't think those who have autism are as demanding, controlling and down right mean spirited as Sheldon is.
@masham7197 Totally agree. I also love the fact that he is developing like starting to understand sarcasm & adapting to living with a woman & having a romantic relationship. It says a lot abou human nature & elasticity.
Nah, they don't have it canonically because he's undiagnosed. They do it so he can be the butt of the joke. Yes, autistic people can be shitty and need to change, and Sheldon does represent a lot of that, but there are things like his spot that people should be able to tolerate his need for routine, but they use it as a joke.
You've clearly not meet those types of autistic people, it's a spectrum for a reason. Some people are very high functioning (almost impossible to tell) and some are like Sheldon or MUCH WORSE @@rocketmom60
He’s so real for making a fuss abt his spot on his couch it’s like wen someone takes ur seat in class like it don’t got my name on it but y’all see me sit there everday tf?😭
As an Anthropologist, let me please inform you that you are a hominid, Sheldon! I thought you were so smart, but this is not the first time I have had to correct you.
this is exactly how my 7 year old cousin acts. he has autism, but is also tongue tided, so he cant speak properly. we have to be very patient and attentive to him and his needs
Can we just say the time and care that Leonard put into Sheldon was exactly how we need to approach those who are different. Whether or not the indiudual is on the Spectrum.
Sheldon ISN'T on the spectrum. He's just a jerk, a punchable murderable jerk whose blood I wouldn't mind having in my hands as long as there's undeniable confirmation that his heart is no longer and will never ever be beating.
😂i too am on the spectrum, didn't find out til my grandson was born with autism and got my blood tested for fragile x😂... this Made my whole life make so much sense lol😂
