A shell-and-tube heat exchanger has 20-tubes and each undergo 2-passes through the shell, and there is 1-shell-pass for the fluid on the shell side. Each tube pass is 4-m-long. The tube has 15-mm-inner and 18-mm-outer-diameter. Hot water at 0.40 kg/s flows in tube entering at 77°C and exiting at 37°C. Cool oil flows in the shell entering at 7°C and exiting at 37°C. Calculate the convection coefficient for the tube outer surface.

how did you get the heat capacity of cold fluid if the mass flow rate is not there??

Lots of tables have heat capacities tabulated.

The reynolds number was calcualted incorrectly. The density of the fluid was completely neglected in the caclulation

yes .it is wrong it will be laminar flow

Incorrect. v = 4m'/(rho * pi * D^2 * number of tubes). This leads to Re = 4m'/(mu * pi * D * number of tubes). He factored in the number of tubes into his value for m', meaning that he number of tubes term in the denominator can be disregarded, leading to the formula he wrote down. He did things right
