I am disabled and not able to walk or get around now and watching this video has been so uplifting to me. We are so very grateful & thankful to have the ability & the opportunity to be able to take our Saltaholics (especially the ones who can not themselves for various reasons) with us virtually on our adventures. We are so blessed by this beauty that surrounds us! We try to get out & enjoy the things we love as much as possible. We've both experienced loss & are well aware it could all change today/tomorrow. The other news item I wanted to bring to your attention, that's been talked about a lot since Idalia, is how bad and dangerous so many of the beach waters are. We had a tourist before Ian and Idalia that did not get into the water on Fort Myers Beach but did walk in it, barefoot. He said they went to dinner that night and his lower left foot and leg started to burn. It got firey red so he went to the ER. He had gotten the flesh eating bacteria from the water and ended up loosing his leg to the knee. I used to think these things only happen at the water's edge but about 7 months after the man went home, another tourist was on a boat with friends. He was relaxing and let his arm and hand dangle in the water. Their boat was close to 2 miles from the shore. His arm began to burn. His friends got him to the hospital in time to save his hand and arm but was told that if he came in 5 min later, he would have lost both his arm/hand. This is life or death serious and should not be taken for granted or laughed off like its silly or it will never get me. I used to adore going to the Ocean or Gulf. I've even heard this year that kids have gotten this disease from swimming in a pool loaded with chlorine. Doctors have a reason for calling this a SUPER BUG. It does not respond well to antibiotics either. I'm not suggesting that you give up going to the ocean, just listen to water reports before you go, wear dive shoes so your feet are protected and wear gloves to protect your hands. Deep Sea Divers do all those things and its not laughed at. If someone were to laugh, how sad would they be if they contracted this disease. Doctors said this disease comes from the Streptococcus Germ and has become so deadly because people do not take their antibiotics as directed. Please stay healthy and safe! GOD BLESS!!!
@SaltyReflections
@SaltyReflections Год назад
Wow! So sorry to hear of those cases. 😔 How terrible! We have had a few friends & acquaintances have some of these same issues, but each of them after sustaining open wounds that were then exposed to the environment. 2 of which happened at the boat landing. 😬 We will be more careful for sure! Thank you for sharing the info.

Stephanie and Oliver, have you ever noticed a broken sand dollar where the edges have grown over and repaired himself? They aren't round anymore, but take on the new shape of repair. Reminds me of how some people have injuries, but heal from them.
@SaltyReflections
@SaltyReflections Год назад
Yes, we do see those occasionally. 😊 That's a good analogy.
@ruthsawyer8867
@ruthsawyer8867 Год назад
GOD created an organ in the human body that is like the sand dollar....its the liver and the only organ that can regenerate itself. We can live without quite a few organs such as the spleen, appendix, thyroid, gall bladder but the liver is essential. We can transplant it but cannot live without it. We need to be more grateful for each of the parts of our bodies because we can loose them anytime. I lost the corneas in both of my eyes in 2018 and was going blind. The Surgeon used Cadaver corneas and I no longer need to be concerned. They took my dead corneas which removed the disease I had, Fuchs Dystrophy and restored my sight. PRAISE GOD for HIS many BLESSINGS!!!

We have an enormous collection. We gift some occasionally to people we know or meet 🐚🎁 or send them as prizes for channel giveaways 🐚🏆on occasion that we do randomly. We rarely sell a couple here & there by our Saltaholics request. But we mostly keep them. I am a shell hoarder & love to see them all around inside & outside of our tiny home. We do find shark teeth sometimes. 🖤🦈🦷 Hunting Island & the Sands are common places we look for them. But we had good luck in NC at Holden Beach finding them, too. God bless you both, and thank you for this video. I am so happy you showed up on my feed. I lived in NC, SC for 26 years. Always inland, but trips to the beach were taken as much as possible. I miss the sound of the waves and the smell of the clean salt air. So peaceful, and soul restoring. I know I could really feel the closeness of our Lord in the peace the water brings. I miss it so much, having now been away 23 years. I had a glass lamp that I put my shell treasures in, that disappeared during a move. Just is not the same with store bought shells. My husband and I went to Sanibel about 30 years ago, The locals always got the big shells. We did get a lot of gorgeous small shells, most the size of a periwinkle. But I was happy. the best sand dollar finding was Myrtle Beach in the winter. So easy to find the air holes in the mud. I subscribed, and look forward your next video. Love to hear you talk, with your "accent". I still have some in me at times. Great to see a video by a loving Christian couple, too. Thank you again.

The most amazing shelling/the most shells we have ever encountered has been at Sanibel, FL & Holden Beach, NC. There were shell piles all over the beaches. We've posted videos from both areas, check them out. A lot of beaches we have visited don't offer much as far as seashells. Typically, most beaches that do have some nice shells are hit or miss. The tides & waves wash shells in & out, so one day may have lots of shells & the next day nothing.

Where'd you ever find a guy that goes shelling with you? I'm jealous!
@SaltyReflections

He likes it mostly for the treasure hunt itself & finding out of the ordinary things. You never know what will be washed up on the beach. The fact that he likes sharing shelling adventures with you guys doesn't hurt, either. 😉👍

Oh how I wish I was there with you guys! Finding treasures as I call them too, is one of my favorite things to do in life. I never get tired of it. I have so many storage totes full of beach treasures that I have been collecting since my first trip to the beach when I was 12 years old. I am now 71! I have bowls and baskets and dishes throughout my home where I display and enjoy my ocean finds . There are a lot of my shells that I can remember exactly where my husband, daughter or I have find them over the years. We really enjoyed this video watching you find these gifts from the sea. I squealed everytime you found a great one!! 🐚

Yes, I assume so. I'm not sure how they are harvested commercially. But I assume they would taste similar to scallops or clams, they are all in the same family. Good question. Someone else reading the comments may know the answer & be able to tell us for certain.

My first time watching you two & loved how blessed you both are to have each other to comb the beaches with... As beautiful as it was I was having a very hard time watching it out of concern for your feet... Why would you go onto the beach with so much potential to cut your feet on shells, broken glass or other sharp objects the storm tides may have washed up. I was so concerned for you & hubby both, thinking what if you cut your foot, how would he be able to get you all the way back to save you if it were serious. I'm very adventurous however, "SAFETY FIRST!" Please wear shower shoes, flip flops or at least take them with you in the wagon. I'm glad you were safe in the end. All & all it was a good video of beautiful treasures. I used to live in SC but never got to go to the beach while there. Thanks for sharing.
@SaltyReflections
@SaltyReflections Год назад
Aww, thank you for your concern. I try my best to avoid stepping directly on the shells or going into the mud where shells could be hiding underneath when I am barefooted. I prefer to feel the sand under my feet at the beach. My teal flip flops were in the wagon tucked next to my basket, just in case, though. Thanks for joining us for the beach adventure! 🌊👣🐚
